I attended Southeastern Louisiana University focusing my studies in Business Administration. My previous work experience includes working for St. Theresa of Avila where I helped to supervise, manage, and train employees. His readiness to do so speaks to every father about the role of protector, and to our whole society about the need we have for good and faithful fathers. The culture of life depends just as much on fathers making the right choices as on mothers doing so. Strong families are an integral aspect of the Culture of Life. YEAR OF MERCY: JULY (More on the Year of Mercy at MOMENTS OF MERCY Each month our Moments of Mercy offer brief reflections on mercy and concrete suggestions of how we can live out the mercy that God offers us all. These are perfect for busy days since they help us to slow down for just a few minutes and think about the gifts God has blessed us with and how we can share them. What does mercy look like through the eyes of another person? We know how we would like people to act with mercy toward us, but what is mercy to a family member, our coworker, or the person we walk by every day? For each of us, there are particular things that are meaningful to us and speak to our need for mercy. In spite of these differences, we are still able to minister to one another, because the love of God surpasses our differences and draws us all into the one Body of Christ. In order to show others the love of God through acts of mercy and compassion, we need to be attentive to their needs and the way in which God is working in their lives. 1. Volunteer some of your time this month at a place where you will meet a variety of people for instance, a local community center, a food bank, or a homeless shelter. Though everyone might have different needs, all are searching for the love and mercy of God. Reflect on the way your need for God's love is similar to their need for God's love. 2. Spend some time talking with a younger or older relative or friend. Sometimes we ignore those whose perspective on life is different or far removed from ours (being much younger or much older than us). Listen to what is important to them, recognizing God's love acting in their life and the way in which you can best act with mercy and compassion toward them.

HITTING IT BIG It seems to be commonly accepted nowadays that everyone wants to win the lottery, hit the slots big at the casino, or be a millionaire. This attitude is akin to what the first hearers of the parable of the successful farmer would have thought: Why, of course he d want to find a way to preserve his good fortune for the future, to secure for himself a life of leisure, eating, drinking, and merriment. It s exactly the kind of life that the right ticket, hand of cards, or quiz show answer might bring us today. Being surrounded by this common wisdom makes the words of Qoheleth, the psalmist, Paul, and Jesus all that much harder to hear today. Perhaps good fortune will be ours, perhaps it will not be. But if we make that fortune or the quest for it the heart, the very center, of our lives, then we will live to regret it.
