THE SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST Saturday, Evening: 5:00 pm Sunday: 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 pm Weekdays: Monday through Friday: 7:15 & 9:00 am (Day Chapel) Weekends: Saturday morning: 9:00 am only Holy Days of Obligation: 7:15 am, 9:00 am, 12:10 pm & 7:30 pm. THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION (Confession) Saturday: 4:00-4:30 pm Other times by appointment THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Pre-Baptismal Instruction for Parents: Held prior to Baptism (Call the Parish Office for schedules and further information) Baptisms The Sacrament of Baptism is administered on the last Sunday of each month at 1:30 pm except during Advent and Lent. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY The Sacrament of Matrimony is celebrated for parishioners. The couple are to contact the priest at least six (6) months prior to the ceremony. THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND MINISTRY TO THE SICK & ELDERLY The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing., expressing love of God and our Church for the sick, our shut-ins and the elderly. For the SERIOUSLY ILL and dying, contact the Priory. Communion will be brought on Sundays to the home of any person permanently or temporarily homebound. CHRISTIAN HOSPITALITY Welcome to the Transfiguration Community. Please register at the Priory. Registering and weekly participating are ways of acquiring a true sense of belonging to our parish community. A record of active membership is a necessary requirement for marriage in the Parish Church, testimonial letters for Baptismal/Confirmation sponsors. If you move or change address, please notify us. 3 THE MOST HOLY TRINITY OUR COMMUNITY: THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST SHARING THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST: As you know, a couple of weeks ago, our parish celebrated together with the second graders as they received their first Holy Communion. Below are some further photos of the event: The celebration involved the children, their families, and the whole parish community. Our experience of the sacrament, is not limited only to the reception of the host and the chalice on Sundays. It is also experienced in the way we serve one another. EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY HELPING TO BRING THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST TO OTHERS: In our parish, we are blessed to have men and women who have assisted the priests in the distribution of the Eucharist to the all the members of the community. Their invaluable help finds its origins in Vatican II and the recognition that lay people have an important role in serving the Church, and the need that pastors have in carrying out the sacramental ministry. EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION : The official title of lay eucharistic ministers is extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. While our ministers are, indeed, extraordinary as people, the Church uses this term to distinguish them from the ordinary ministers of the Eucharist: the ordained, i.e., bishops, priests and deacons. This distinction is important because, unlike the ordinary ministers of the Eucharist, lay Eucharistic ministry is temporary, and they are only to be used in the case of pastoral necessity as decided by the bishops and, at a local level, the pastors. Because of this, in the Archdiocese of New York, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs) are mandated as such for a period of three years, which can be renewed or revoked at the discretion of the pastor. The pastor requests the mandate from the Archdiocese

4 for each EMHC. During this period of service, the EMHCs are also assessed for their continued suitability to the ministry. BRINGING THE BODY OF CHRIST TO THE SICK: The fundamental role of the EMHC is to bring the Eucharist and the Eucharistic community to those who cannot be at Mass. It is just as important as serving the Eucharist at Mass, because they help to maintain the prayerful and sacramental connection between us and the sick person and their family. The experience of illness is, by its nature, isolating and alienating. The EMHC, therefore, represents the community both in bringing the sacrament to the sick and in the way they care for theperson to whom they are ministering. Their role also challenges them to ensure that they conduct themselves as decent Christians in their daily lives, just as we all should. Because they are chosen by the pastor, the EMHC is mandated to officially serve only that community. If you know anyone who needs the Eucharist brought to them, please call the office and let us know their information, and we will arrange for an EMHC to minister to them. 5 Summer Enrichment Program Transfiguration School will be offering a 6 week Summer Enrichment Program starting June 25, 2018 for children entering Prek3 2 nd. This program is a combination of sports (tennis, gymnastics, basketball and volleyball) arts and crafts, baking, and outdoorfun with a little academics on the side.
