1 Lunch Meeting July 18 th, 2006 President Sami Midani presided over the third RCRC meeting on July 18 th, With a heavy heart, he requested all members to observe a moment of silence for PP David Lee Fong Lit s late wife, Mary Anne. RCRC members offer their heartfelt condolences to PP David and his family at this sad time. Rtn Chris Mertz proposed a toast to RI. Rtn Chris, who has just returned from Perth, spoke about our sister club of St. George s which is now officially closed. The remaining members of St. George s have joined the main club of Perth. Club Service Director PP TC Phua confirmed that there would be no lunch meeting on the 25 th, in light of the DG s visit that evening. The meeting would commence at 6:30pm. Details are below. If members haven t already done so, please confirm your attendance to PP TC. Club secretary Rtn Aaron Tan requested the Board to please submit their projections by Monday. VP Nidhi Swarup spoke of her upcoming plans to host a gathering for spouses to get their feedback. Details will follow. Pres Sami added there would be an emphasis on understanding specific projects of which the spouses were keen and then to evaluate if there would be any interest for potential RCRC involvment. PP David Ong Choon had 3 announcements: 1) Feedback/questionnaire from fellow Rotarians. PP David handed it to all members present at the meeting, with a request to return these forms to his committee, who in turn, will collate and present the feedback to members. 2) Makati North trip was confirmed for next week. Pres Sami would be leading the delegation and would be joined by Rennie, his partner, as well as 4 members of RCRC PP Gerald, PP Jimmy, Rtn Aaron, and PP David Ong Choon. 3) Gave details around the wake of Mary Anne, PP David s late wife. PP Eugene Lim, our Community Service Director, reminded committee members of the meeting at his place on Friday 21 st July. Details are below. He invited all members of the Board and their spouses to join him and his committee. New Generations Director Aziz requested Rotarians to support and encourage our Rotractors and Interactors, and where possible for each of us, to make it for their installations and activities. He also mentioned an invitation to our Rotary Club of Civic District 6 th Installation as well as book launch on The Joy of Mother s Love. The event was on July 18 th and RTN Aziz found out about the event on the 18 th itself, so he was apologetic that he was unable to give much notice to the Rotarians. 4 Rtn Jeffrey Chan gave RCRC members an overview of the Red Cross movement concerning the emblem and the evolution of the emblem bringing us from a historical prospective to present day. There are 3 protected Red Cross emblems: The Red Cross, the Red Crystal, and the Red Crescent. Importantly, only military medical services (including military ambulances) and National Red Cross Societies (including their assets, such as ambulances etc) can use the emblem. He also recounted his recent voting experience in Geneva and how he went to bed at 5am. Good work Rtn Jeffrey! By , Rtn Brian Tan, and Rtn Aziz submitted this for RCRC members: This is the final trip for Rotary Club of Raffles City s overseas community service project. The Club is sponsoring the materials that will be used for the repair of the Rotary Village in Khao Lak. This final trip will be lead by the Rotaract Club of Ngee Ann Poly. Ngee Ann Poly will be doing a 14 day stint from 26 Aug to September 7. Rotarians are scheduled to visit Khao Lak at the tail end of the project. This will be for the hand over of the houses back to the villagers. The trip will be for 3 days over September 5-7. The estimated cost is around S$300 per person. The group will be staying at a resort in Khao Lak. This will include airfare and accommodation. Currently, the following Rotarians, Ron Pereira, Aaron Tan, Billy Lee and Brian Tan have committed to go for this event. More Rotarians are welcome for this trip but please let Brian Tan know by Tuesday 25 th July so that arrangements can be made. In the news, the first issue of the DG's Newletter for Rotary Year 2006/07 is available at the District website 20 Rotarians and 1 guest enjoyed the camaraderie as well as Rtn Jeffrey s impromptu talk. The sunshine collection was $59. The meeting was declared closed at 2pm with President Sami encouraging all Rotarians to get involved, participate actively and make this a great year.

Ask ourselves these 4 questions and act upon them: First Second Third Fourth Have I spent some time in self-examination? Have I spent quality time with my family? Have I given the best to my work? Have I given some time to someone near and far? The first question prompts us to evaluate ourselves and our ability to serve. The second question reinforces our commitment to the family our intimate community of Life and Love The third question requests us to commit ourselves to work excellence and the practice of high ethical standards. The fourth question reminds us of our duty to Lend A Hand, rendering compassionate service and working for world peace. The Guide, in fact, encompasses the 4 parts of the Object of Rotary. The Four- Way Test: From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians were concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world's most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The Four-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as RI president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. This 24-word test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy. Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions:

7 "Of the things we think, say or do: 1) Is it the TRUTH? 2) Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3) Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
