1 Rotary Club Of Muthaiga TAARIFA NEW GENERATION MONTH District 9212, Nairobi, KENYA THEME Hand over of the presidential chain to Pres. Rtn. Lilian Okado by DG Bimal kantaria Word From the President Every day as Rotarians we work hard to invest in an individual and collective culture of service to humanity. If you re visiting our club for the first time, we welcome you to join us in this daily act of service. If you re already part of the greater Rotary family, we celebrate you and urge you with great enthusiasm to continue relentlessly and with great heart impacting your community. This year, all year, Rotary Club of Muthaiga will be focused on the basics of community service. Join us. "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." - Hellen Keller. Rtn. Lilian Okado President RCM
2 & d n t u Aro bou A Handover Speech during Installation IPP. Bernard Kiraithe It gives me great pleasure to stand here tonight for this auspicious occasion. At some point the year seemed like it will be eternity but the last few months as I started enjoying the service as president, I got reminded that it's time to handover. Our theme for the year was Engage Rotary, Change Lives. As I handover the reigns of power to Lilian, who I have full confidence in, I have no doubt that the club is in good hands and I wish her all the best. I would like to reassure her of my support, and feel free to call on me for any help even on short notice. So the Clock has moved on to the point where I pass on this Rotary chain of Office to Lilian I acknowledge my board members for the good work they did I do not take their effort for granted. May the RC Muthaiga Board members kindly be upstanding. Please ladies and gentlemen, join me in thanking the members of our board for their dedication, selflessness and hard work. Thank you! Board Lilian Okado - President Rakhee Kantaria - President Elect 2015/16 Ann Muthui - Club Admin. 5 Did you Know? TO BE A ROTARIAN - JUST ASK Many of us didn t have a clue about what Rotary was all about when we heard about it. We knew that these are a group of people who do community service, we did not necessarily know exactly what, but that did not matter. Then we decided to visit the club to see precisely what was going on. After several visits, we still didn t have any idea about what Rotary was. Then we got inducted, some of us felt rather special and at that point, we still didn t know what Rotary was all about. Some of us were too scared to ask, for the fear of looking ignorant and having our now Fellow Rotarians question, How does she not know that? Some of us had the courage to ask, but did not know exactly who to approach and wondered if there was some sort of protocol to follow. As time went on, we heard about these projects and itched to be part of one, we heard about IPP, DG, PDG, PE, PHF, TRF and were unsure about what all these meant, we heard about boards and elections and felt lost and confused. We waited to be called upon to join a committee, a team, anything, something, which in some cases was waiting in vain. We often felt that it was perhaps that we were still too green to be selected and so we chose to wait till time elapsed and we could be considered capable, but also thought about how we would prove this capability if we were sitting on the bench. Some have stood the test of time, some have fought time and decided to get their answers here and now, and some simply gave up and walked away. To be a Rotarian is a simple thing, you only need to have a giving heart. It need not be daunting. Titles and terminology need not scare you. Boards are to be respected but they are not unapproachable. Senior Members are individuals who have been in Rotary long enough to be called Senior Rotarians but they are not an intimidating group of people who will look down upon new Rotarians. Rotarians are family; family who respect one another and also support each other. To access this beauty of being a Rotarian, one merely needs to reach out. Do not be frightened, nervous or even shy- just ask. We must remember that no Rotarian is only a Rotarian. We are professionals pushing along to do what we do either because we are passionate about it or because the bills need to be paid. We are mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, daughters and sisters, brothers and sons of people who demand our attention and love. As a Rotarian you wear many hats but that does not mean that once the Monday Fellowship is over, we forget each other, so all you have to do if you feel lost is ask, at anytime on any day. Rotary is an opportunity; an opportunity to gain from serving the community. It is humbling experience that is filled with life lessons. Rotary develops the X factor in a person. Let us not allow this chance to pass because we did not reach out. Try it once. Ask and everything will flow. To be a Rotarian- just ask. By Rtn. Nazia Ansari Service Above Self..
