In his letter to the Diocese, Bishop Fabbro has encouraged those of the Catholic Faith to become more active participants in that faith. We are so fortunate in that our fraternal order has always been a clearly identifiable standard bearer for our Catholic religion. In the recent Columbian Service Day Brothers from our Council assisted at Mass of course, but also served breakfast to the needy, laid wreaths in St. Peter s Cemetery and at day s end happily joined with Brothers from the London Councils for a great meal. This month we are invited to be visible to our community supporting the work of the Legion POPPY CAMPAIGN and later in the month seeking public support for those in need through the Christmas KETTLE PROGRAM. Through these works and many others we are literally taking our faith from our altars into the streets. - Father Ernie Deslippe Council 1467 Chaplain s Message On Sunday, October 21 st we celebrated the canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekawitha, the first North American native to be canonized. She was born in Auriesville, New York and died at the tender age of 24 years at Caughnawaga, Quebec near Montreal, Canada. Her mother was an Algonguin who had been baptized at Three Rivers, Quebec, but during an Iroquois raid she was carried off to New York, where she was married to a pagan Mohawk Chief. Two children were born of this marriage but only Kateri survived. Her parents and her brother died in a smallpox epidemic when Kateri was 4 years old. Kateri s face was permanently disfigured and her eyesight was impaired by the disease. She was raised by an uncle who at one time housed three Jesuit missionaries on a visit. Kateri received instructions and was baptized Easter Sunday, The other natives were so opposed to her conversion that a missionary advised her to flee to Montreal where she could practice her religion. Near Montreal she led a life of great austerity and virtue. In 1679 she made a profession of virginity and she died near Montreal. Her death was the occasion of a great revival of religious fervor among Christian natives as we hope her canonization will be today. St. Kateri pray for us. Father Brian McColl Chaplain - Father Ernie Deslippe Council 1467

4 Different life stages, changing needs You may have a long-range expense for which you are saving, such as college for your children. You may be concerned about a comfortable, worry-free retirement. You may want to protect your ability to earn a living. You may wonder if needing costly long-term care will deplete your hard-earned assets. You want to have something to leave for your wife, children or grandchildren. At some point you may have had all of these needs on your mind. Over time, these thoughts make way for others as your needs evolve, your finances change and you get older. What is important to you at age 20, may not be at 30, or 45, or 65. What is the best way to be prepared for these changes before they happen? One of the easiest ways to be financially ready for changes that come with different life stages is to meet annually with your professional Knights of Columbus agent, and address the needs that his analysis uncovers. This can help you be ready to face the financial challenges and issues on the road ahead. During that annual visit, I ll take the time to review your needs, goals and budget. I ll update all beneficiaries on your policies and be sure your coverage meets your needs. I ll recommend a program of life insurance, long-term care, disability income insurance and guaranteed retirement products that will help you rest easy at night. Whatever your needs, whatever your concerns, whatever your stage in life, I can help. Give me a call today to discuss how our products can bring that peace of mind to you and your family. I m at or martin.evers@kofc.org. Call me let s talk. Martin Evers, PGK, PFN, FIC Field Agent Councils 1467, 3212, 4189, 4502, and The first meeting of your new executive will be Tuesday, November 7, :00 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall. All ladies and widows of the Knights are automatically members of the Ladies Auxiliary. Please come out to meet your new executive, share your ideas, a cup of tea or coffee and join in our sisterhood. Sincerely, Carol (519) Knights of Columbus - Council 1467, by hitting your pledge, you can save more lives. As a Partners For Life organization, your team is instrumental in providing immediate support during challenging times of year to collect blood, such as the upcoming holiday season. So far your organization has collected 80 units towards your pledge of 100 units. There is still time left this year to help give someone an opportunity to enjoy more holiday miracles. It's time to rally together to save lives. Thank you so much for firstly making a commitment to be a lifeline to many recipients and thank you secondly for now completing 80% of your pledge. It should go without saying that as we enter this season of the year, the demand on our blood supplies will unfortunately increase. Please consider giving the GIFT OF LIFE. Bingo Report Please find attached our Bingo schedule for the last half of the year We request additional persons to help out at bingos. 5 COMMUNITY PROGRAMS: Director: Columbian Service Day. Thank you to the Brothers who were part of this year s intercouncil event. Brothers Peter O Donnell, Bill Walker, Jim Lumley and Larry McCaffery fed the hungry at St. Martin of Toures Church. Thank you to our Sir Knights of Bishop Cody Assembly for their participation in the wreath laying ceremonies at St. Peter s and in particular to our Brother John Loehndorf for presenting our wreath. Bishop Sherlock was the main celebrant at the Mass celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Church assisted by several Chaplains. Sixteen Brothers and wives enjoyed a great dinner prepared by The Wayside Inn to end the day. YOUTH PROGRAMS: Still looking for a new director. If interested please contact OR Past Tim Buchanan THE ADVENT OF CHRISTMAS 2012 We are now planning for the events of this season. Primary to our undertakings is our work to KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS. Billboards, buttons and magnets have been procured and ads carefully scripted. Also of great importance to us are the fund raising projects that allow our work to happen. Here we need the generous support of all of our membership. Turkey Raffle With this bulletin you have received your tickets. Some folks have a knack for selling them to their wives, family and neighbours. If you are not a ticket seller buy them. Thank you and we wish you good fortune in the drawings. You will soon be advised as to the team that you are asked to be on for the that you are asked to be on for the RAFFLE NIGHT FRIDAY NOVEMBER 30. You are asked to work on a team because we need your help. It is fun, action packed and will take only a couple of hours of your time. CHRISTMAS TREE SALE REALLY REALLY important to our budget. We will need transport, set up, accounting and sales crews. This activity requires all of our Brothers to step up and to do so as noted before, generously. To loose this event for whatever cause will be rough in that our long standing customer base will find a new supplier and our council activities will be most certainly impacted. FANTASY OF LIGHTS After shepherding this event for many years Brother Fred Molinaro is retiring. This year, Brothers Barry Buchanan and Wayne Krosniki will assist in leading this event that forms a valuable part of our KEEPING CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS program. Page 5 PRO LIFE PROGRAM: Directors: Larry McCaffery larrymccaffery@live.ca Dan O Connor danandcaroloconnor@hotmail.com Looking for suggestion to increase awareness of Pro Life issues in our community. Please contact Larry or Dan. Talking about Pro Life So I was asked why are the Knights of Columbus Pro-Life..the following I think sums it up. If the unborn is growing, it must be alive. And if it has human parents, it must be human. And living humans, or human beings like you and I, are valuable aren't they? From conception, all that's added to the unborn is a proper environment and adequate nutrition. But those are the same things all of us need. There's one quality all of us have equally that demands equal treatment: we all have a human nature. Racism and sexism are wrong because they pick out external differences and ignore the underlying similarity between men and women, blacks and whites. But the unborn also has that same human nature, so shouldn't we protect him or her from discrimination just like we protect minorities and women? We value the life of all persons...unborn, young, those who suffer with a handicap and the old. This is the lesson that Father McGivney gave us and why we remain and will always be Pro-Life.
