APRIL 2014 EASTER EDITION Grand Knights Epistle You are most certainly urged to examine your spiritual lives and prepare for your eternity during this time of Lent and, we must prepare as well for the Fraternal year beginning now. I am most appreciative of the work of the Brothers who have been a part of the Executive these past two years. We must now begin to set in place the Brothers who will guide us in the future. Dennis Grand Knight - Father Ernie Deslippe Council 1467 On April 6, four of our Brothers will complete the journey that they began as they took their first commitment and received the first lesson(s) of our Brotherhood. Since our Order is so closely bound to the faith that is foundational to our lives, it is really important that all of the lessons be received and understood. Bishop Cody Assembly will be hosting the 4 th Degree Exemplification at St. Anne s May 9-10 Brother Jim Coveny would like to speak with any Brother interested in completing his degrees. Chaplain s Message Do not be afraid I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here for He has been raised just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell the disciples He has been raised from the dead and He is going before you to Galilee, there you will see Him These are the words of confirmation that the angel says to Mary Magdalene in Matthew s Gospel (Mathew 28). On their way to tell the disciples they encountered Jesus and although fearful the Marys embraced Jesus feet and paid His homage. In this year of 2014 in the month of April we celebrate on the 20 th Jesus resurrection. To all those who profess Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and believe in Him and follow His teachings there is great joy because He promised eternal life. As St. Paul says, Death where is your sting? Where is your victory? At the Easter Vigil we bless the Easter water and we reject Satan and all his pomp and profess our faith. This is the Pascal commitment that we made not to be deceived by the devil, but to adhere to Christ s teachings. Hence Easter is the greatest feast of the Liturgical Year. Let us prepare our hearts, minds and souls to celebrate this feast with faith and hope in the Risen Lord. Father Brian McColl

2 Knights of Columbus In Service To One. In Service To All Second Annual 40 cans for lent food drive Christ fasted for 40 days in the desert. We invite Knights and friends to donate 1 item of non-perishable food for each of those days. All food donated will go to the Caring Cupboard. Regrettably, this will be a limited time offer. FS Chat from Bill Ressler: April 2014 Annual Dues Brothers, Same Old! Same Old! Dues are to be paid by January 31 st. February 28 th thirty Brothers were sent second notices for dues. Those Brothers that do not respond will necessitate a third notice of Knight Alert and a call from the trustees. The Knight's Hall was packed and fun was had by everyone from babies to seniors. The local singers, band, Irish dancing, ukulele band face painting and crafts, games and fabulous food were truly enjoyed by all. Special thanks to the organizers Peter O'Donnell, Richard Borecki, Roy Esbaugh, Jim & Kathy O Lumley, Dan & Carol O'Connor, John & Cory McGugan & family, Andrew & Christina O'Connor and girls, Keven & Kim Grantham & boys, David and Lindsay O'Connor, Tim, Joe and Sean Buchanan and, thanks also to the cleanup crew who pitched in to make the cleanup of the Hall an easier job. CHARITY RAFFLE On five weekends in February and March - 60 Brothers and their Wives filled 96 two hour shifts for a total of 192 hours of volunteer time selling the Charity Raffle Tickets. Thank you Brothers and Wives Thank you to all the brother Knights who read at the Stations of The Cross Held at Holy Angels 7:00 Fridays through Lent This marks the third year for the KofC Golf League at the Bluffs. Sue and Mark have offered the same great deal of twelve games for the price of their ten game package. The league runs for twelve weeks in June, July and August. Tee times are available in the morning, afternoon, and evening to accommodate retirees and shift workers. This is open to all Brothers and their spouses. We offer a mens and ladies league. The membership is $200 and includes 12 nine hole games two free buckets of range balls, one free nine and dine, and great prices. Members of the Bluffs pay only a $50. KofC registration fee. 5 Ways to Pay for Whole Life We live in a world of options and we are constantly bombarded by choices. Some of these make our lives more complicated, but many of these choices are created with our satisfaction in mind. At the Knights of Columbus, every product we offer has been designed solely for the benefit of our members and their families. When I present an option to you, it s because a team of experts has discussed it at length to be certain it serves your best interest. We have a few options on how you can provide and pay for the whole life coverage that your family needs. Many whole life policies call for premiums to be paid for your entire life or to age 100. But we also offer permanent life coverage with guaranteed cash values (and the potential to earn dividends, which are not guaranteed) through policies that offer a limited period of premium payments. First, we offer 10 Pay Life and 20 Pay Life. Consider paying premiums for 10 or 20 years, and never having to pay for the coverage again. The plan is paid up and no more premiums are due. The plan stays in force, the death benefit remains intact and the guaranteed cash value continues to grow. A plan with similar benefits is Life Paid Up at 65. The difference over 10 or 20 Pay Life plans is that this permanent product requires you to pay premiums until age 65. Then, premiums stop (just in time for retirement), but the plan remains in force. Finally, the ultimate in limited pay is our Single Premium Life product. Imagine buying life insurance permanent life insurance and only paying one single premium? It s possible.
