Thank you Jim for your service and thanks in advance for the assistance I know you will provide me when I need it. I look forward to serving as Grand Knight in the coming year; this is not a position of authority but rather a position to serve my Brother Knights, our Church and our community by the lessons of Charity, Unity and Fraternity taught to us by our venerable founder Fr Michael McGivney. Together with this strong executive and an active membership our charity goals will be attained. Thanks go to Bro Patrick Morgan for his service as District Deputy; our new DD Bro Robert Cloutier is going to have some big shoes to fill. We have had a busy summer, from 710 volunteer hours at Day out with Thomas, the completion of our audit and budget ready to be presented at our September business meeting, the planning and scheduling of your Installation of officers and recognition banquet on September 27 th our widows luncheon on august 24 th, the hard work of our centennial committee, and countless other achievements throughout the summer. This coming year is a huge year for council; on January 23 rd we will be 100 Years old. I am very privileged to be able to serve our council as Grand Knight as we enter our centennial year, I will require all the support and prayers you can afford me. Watch for centennial clothing available to be ordered at the hall and watch for dates as we will be hosting all 4 degrees at our council in 2010; a feat we believe has not been done by another council. I look forward to working with our Columbus Club they have done wonders redecorating the Hall inside and out. This is our home; CC Pres. Dave Vandenberg and his executive are doing a great job; thank you Dave. Vivat Jesus Tim Buchanan. Grand Knight, Council 1467 Another summer has come and gone, and a new year of council activities will soon begin. Our new executive are all anxious to begin their terms of office. We appreciate and thank the former executive for their fine leadership and dedication. This year will be a most important and spectacular year as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our council. there will be a number of special activities taking place to mark this historic occasion and we will need the active participation of the brothers to help and to take part in the various activities sponsored by our council. On September 27th we will have the installation of officers for We would like to have a good turnout for this ceremony to show our support for the new executive. Hoping to see you at this event. God Bless ~~ Father Ernie Deslippe ~~Chaplain ~~

4 Our short summer is coming to an end and we are headed for autumn and our September 8th meeting. The Knights again provided an excellent widows luncheon that was attended by 32 ladies and enjoyed by all. Again I would like to thank Shirley Poirier for all her hard work and dedication to the Euchre Parties. As no one is able at this time to take on the challenge of running these parties we have had to cancel them. No more Euchre Parties. I m looking forward to sharing the fun of a rummoli game at our September meeting. Don t forget your pennies! We are in need of Beads that are ½ and able to be restrung. We are making Rosary Bracelets for the 4 th Degree Exemplification and would be most grateful for any donations. You can drop them off at the Hall. For info call Mary Ressler. Ladies Auxiliary Meeting September 8 at 2pm at the KofC Hall Mary Ressler Ladies Auxiliary President Bingo Report for September Hello all here we are starting a new fraternal year, well, we started it in July, a couple of months ago. The bingos have been busy. Since the last June bulletin we had 2 bingos in June, 2 in July, 2 in August. For all of these bingos we have to give a hand to the workers. 5 were attended by me, Jim Dewan, and 4 were attended by Jim Coveny, Italo Difillipo, and Otis Clifton, 2 were attended by Don Van Tassel, Alex Baca, Steve Wachoviak and Rick Kay, 1 was attended by Gary Steer. Give a hand to our Grand Knight Tim Buchanan who came to one of the bingos to show support to his council and find out what this bingo thing is all about. I think his eyes were opened to the work the Bingo Committee does for the council. For the next few months, we have the following bingos Mon Sept 7, :00 pm Thurs Sept 24, :30 pm Tues Oct 6, :30 pm Thurs Oct 29, :00 pm Sat Nov 21, :30 pm Sat Nov 21, :00 pm Double Bingo Tues Dec 8, :30 pm Tues Dec 8, :00 pm Double Bingo Note the two double bingos at the end of our schedule. It would be really good if we could have two teams working on those days so that the load is not all on one bunch of brother knights. Some facts about the bingos we run now. We do not have to do any running, just selling at the beginning and some other small duties during the bingo. Major roles are co-ordination and pay-outs. These are done by me, Ron McCormick, Jim Dewan, and Don Van Tassel for co-ordination, and Italo Difillipo, Jim Coveny and Rick Kay for payouts. Other members participate in the sales portion and other small but important jobs throughout the bingo. We need a minimum of 3 members at bingos during the week and on Fri, Sat, and Sun we need a minimum of 4 members. We usually try to have at least 1-2 more than the minimum especially in the evenings. Please contact me ( ) for more information or if you can assist in this very important fund raiser for our Council. Bingo Chair Martin Evers, PGK, PFN, FA Page 4 Columbus Club Report The Columbus Club would like to thank Brother Bob Beausoleil for his services as Club Manager over the past few years. We are hoping that Brother Bob will still be available to bartend and offer his services when required. Thanks again Brother Bob! We the Executive formed an interviewing committee and the Club decided to hire Brother Roy Esbaugh. Congratulations Brother Roy! Considering that Brother Roy is on the Columbus Club Executive, he is going to have to step down and Roy has signed a 90 day contract so should the 90 days expire and Roy officially be hired he will have to be replaced at that time and nominations and a voting will have to take place. A couple of exciting announcements, some of you may be aware that we the Columbus Club are on the Chamber of Commerce and we have been requested to host a couple of Business After 5 events. Our first one will take place on November 11, Mr. Bob Hammersley mentioned that there may be some military presence due to it being Remembrance Day. Please contact Brother Dave Vandenberg for any details. The other Business after 5 we will be hosting will be March 17 th. Yes, you guessed it, St. Patrick s Day. The Hall is in good shape, inside and out, but we would really like to thank Canadale for their layout suggestions and even did some planting in the front and rear gardens. A really big THANK you to Brother Tom Intven. As President I would really like to thank those that helped out with the volunteer bartending at many free events! It is events like these that make the Knights faces show out in the community. Thanks again! As you heard Summerfest was a great success! Thanks to all the volunteers and the Summerfest committee! This event is truly growing and a larger venue will have to made available in the very near future. Thanks Brother Gerry Holden for leading us in such a great event! A special thanks to Brother Mike Butler for his hard work with the advertising that really helped in getting the word out there! Lastly, the Columbus Club have invited Father Ernie, Father Mark and Father Gabriel, Father Hardy, Father Mark Sargent and Sister Mary to attend and Open House to celebrate the newly decorated Hall inside and out and also to try and lure a few more Knights to attend this weekly social event. This will take place on Friday, September 25 th anytime after 4 o clock. A special introduction will take place right after our Toonie draw at 6 o clock. Various foods will be available on behalf of the Columbus Club. Please do plan to attend as we are really trying to showcase the Hall. An alternate date is Friday, October 2, 2009.

5 FS Chat from Richard Beachey: September 2009 Dues One Brother was suspended at the end of July for non-payment of dues. When a dues billing is received, prompt payment is appreciated. Happy Birthday!!! The Following Brother s will be celebrating Birthday s in September; Dave Anderson, Dave Brosnan, Mark Burgess, Ted Burnham, Mike Carroll, Leo Clark, Jim Flynn, John Goossens, Ralph Hooper, John Kana, Joe Kelly, Heinrich Kemmerling, Jim Kuhn, Joe Moser, Terry Sheridan, Oscar Thompson, Jeff Yurek The Squires emblem includes a Maltese cross upon which are the letters "P" (physical fitness); "I" (intellectual development); S (spiritual growth and the practice of our faith); and "C" (citizenship and civic life). The large letters "C" and "S" intertwined with the cross respectively represent Christ and Squires. The "K" centered on the cross symbolizes the Knights of Columbus. Esto Dignus, the Squires' motto encircling the emblem, is Latin for "Be Worthy." The Columbian Squires, the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus, is one of the most dynamic leadership development organizations for young Catholic men in the world. Catholic young men between the ages of 10 and 18 are eligible for membership. A cheque from the donations received on Rose Sunday is being presented to John VanEyk, President of the Right to Life by Grand Knight, Tim Buchanan (right) and Rose Sunday chairman, Larry McCaffery (left). Dear Fellow Knights and your Spouses/Friends Enclosed is a Thank You Card from Ron Bareham, President for the Elgin County Railway Museum. The Thomas the Tank Engine visit was a huge success for the Railway Museum again this year. I would like to add my thanks and am proud to advise you that 68 Knights and their Spouses/Friends filled 188 six hour shifts for a total of 710 volunteer hours. This is a tremendous accomplishment for Council 1467 and the work done by our Knights and their Spouses and Friends was carried out in a fun but efficient and professional way. It has been the contribution of volunteer hours from several local organizations that have helped make the Thomas the Tank Engine visit a financial success. Your friendly welcome of visitors to our Community was also very appreciated. Fraternally yours, Tim Buchanan Grand Knight Council 1467 Page 5 Facts about life insurance September is Life Insurance Awareness Month. To help educate consumers about the need for and value of adequate life insurance protection, the Life Insurance Market Research Association (LIMRA) has published the following five facts. These statistics are certainly worth considering. Fact 1: Nearly 75 percent of North Americans agree that life insurance is the best way to protect against premature death of the primary wage earner. Fact 2: Twenty-four million households have no life insurance protection at all. Almost one third of adults have no life insurance protection. Fact 3: Forty-four percent of all households either don t own life insurance and believe they should, or own life insurance and believe they need more. Among those that already own some life insurance, 40 percent believe they don t have enough. Fact 4: One-fourth of primary wage earners feel they do not have a plan in place to provide a decent standard of living for their family if they died tomorrow. Twelve percent of families would immediately have trouble meeting everyday living expenses and another 15 percent would have difficulty keeping up after several months. Fact 5: People would like to discuss life insurance with a qualified professional agent. They believe that buying life insurance is an important and complex financial decision. Half find it difficult to decide how much to buy, and 43 percent worry about making the wrong decision. I d like to meet with you in your home, at your convenience. I ll work with you to make sure your family is protected. As a brother Knight you can trust, I ll take the stress and worry out of the buying decision. I m at or martin.evers@kofc.org. Call me let s talk.
