We have welcomed 19 new members to our council including new recruits, transferees and members reinstated. Again I would like to welcome our new members and thank the hard work of members that helped in recruiting and the ones that inspired members to join our ranks by living the example and exemplifying true acts of knighthood. Victoria Day weekend DGK Mike Butler and I had the privilege of attending the Ontario State Convention in Toronto, it was a very interesting and eye opening experience one that won t soon be forgotten by us or the many Brothers that attended from all across Ontario. Mike and I did have the honour of accepting three awards on council s behalf. The awards received were a trillium award, Best Council honourable mention in division 1, and best council project for Summerfest. Thank you to all members that helped and supported various functions and projects throughout the year. Be sure to Read your bulletin although we won t be having business meetings in July and August council will still be very busy. Our Annual General Meeting of the Columbus Club will be held on Monday July 26 th at 7:30pm. Make it a point to come out, the new Bylaws of the CC will be presented and voted on for approval by the membership. Congratulations to all the winners at the elimination draw. Hope to see you at Summerfest on June 12 th. Question: We all know when the Knights of Columbus was started and by whom; if you don t I suggest visiting What year was Fr McGivney ordained to the priesthood and where? Answer is printed in this edition of the bulletin. Tim Buchanan Grand Knight Council 1467 Chaplains Message Dear Brother Knights and Families A very busy, but Historical Fraternal year is about to come to an end. Our Centennial has been a very exciting and blessed event. With all four degrees taking place in the space of one year has made Council 1467, St. Thomas a very special and unique Council in Canada. As a result of these degrees many new brothers have joined our ranks. So my dear Brothers a sincere vote of thanks and appreciation must be given the members of our Centennial Committee under the direction of our General Chairman, S.K. Robert Gracey PGK, PFN, FDD. for the great work they did in preparing for all these events. Your work is greatly appreciated as is the work of any of the Brothers who helped in any way. You are all a credit to your Council. As our Fraternal year draws to a close, I hope that you and your families will enjoy the Summer and return to help your Council in the Fall. Enjoy your vacation and God Bless Father Ernie Deslippe Chaplain, Council 1467

4 FOOD for THOUGHT This inspirational poem, a rhyming poem, is also a motivational poem. Inspirational poetry should contain elements that everyone can relate to. I think we can all remember a time or two when we felt like this. Find Your Thankful Self Sometimes you feel you're nothing at all, And that's all you'll ever be. You study all your defects; An empty life is all you see. Instead of looking at what you haven't got, Seeing only what you lack, Focus on your blessings, And get right back on track. There are many good things about being you; Count them one by one. Your life has lots of comforts, While others, they have none. Many people have it much, much worse Yet they have happiness. They take joy in little things They're thankful, though they have less. Lift your spirits up right now; Get out of that depression. Find your thankful self, And give it full expression. Find the joy in little things; Focus on fun and laughter. See life's blessings all around, And live happily ever after! By Joanna Fuchs FIELD AGENTS REPORT The grass is rarely greener We all know the old adage, the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence. When it comes to replacing your existing Knights of Columbus life insurance with coverage offered by another company, the adage holds true. Perceptions are deceiving. A move to the other side of the fence might seem like a good one, but it can leave you with less green in your wallet in some cases, a lot less. That s why it pays to remember another old saying, Read the fine print. There are many reasons to keep your existing coverage in force, whether that coverage is with the Knights of Columbus or with another company. There are two major potential pitfalls of replacing coverage. Be sure that any agent trying to convince you that the grass actually is greener covers these key factors. First, it s unlikely that you can obtain the same amount of coverage, for the same premium, that you were able to obtain with your existing contract. The two factors that determine how much you ll need to pay for life insurance coverage are age and health. Certainly, you re older now than you were when you took out your current coverage. There s no way around that one. And you have to ask yourself, has your health changed during that time? Is your blood pressure the same? Your cholesterol? Have you gained weight? All these factors affect the amount of coverage you ll get for your premium dollar. Second, all life insurance contracts contain a contestability period, which allows the insurer to contest claims made for a period (typically two years) after the contract is issued. Chances are this is no longer an issue with your current coverage. If someone encourages you to replace or worse, drop - your existing coverage with any insurer, please call me. I ll show you how your existing coverage is working for you and why replacement is rarely in your best interest. I m at or martin.evers@kofc.org. Call me let s talk. Martin Evers, PGK, PFN, FIC Field Agent Councils 1467, 3212, 4189, 4502, 6495, 11727, and Columbian Squires Circle # 1282, Bro. Jack Cryan May 2010 Unfortunately plans to attend the 2010 Provincial Conference were short circuited by a family death of one of the councilors. The lads will now focus their efforts on attending Squires Camp Weekend in September and the councilors focus on Councilors Workshop weekend in October. The young gentlemen are going to try there hand at fund-raising over the summer. They are happy to report a profit from the St. Patrick s Day event. A Circle needs support from it s Council in all areas, financial, supervision, event attendance and recruiting. Brother Knights please keep your eyes open for likely candidates where ever you might encounter them. Answer: 1877 in Baltimore at St. Mary's Seminary. Brother Greg and I would also appreciate any time Brother Knights would care to give in help counseling Circle Circle 1282 is still looking for a uniform sponsor, if any Brother Knights own your own business and would be interested in giving this support please contact Bro. Peter The circle meets on the first Sunday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall. This makes the meeting Sunday June 6th. Brother Knights; help invest in the future of our council by helping to populate Circle #1282. The adventure of Knighthood starts with the adventure of Squirehood. Respectfully Submitted; Peter G. Kuntz Chief Squires Councilor. Esto Dignus Page 4
