Thank you, in advance, to all the Brothers and their wives, who have been organizing these events and will be volunteering to make them a success.

1 In November we begin a very busy and exciting couple of months of activity in our Council. In November alone we will be involved in Cemetery Sunday, Poppy sales, Remembrance Day, Turkey Raffle, Salvation Army Kettles and Christmas tree sales. Thank you, in advance, to all the Brothers and their wives, who have been organizing these events and will be volunteering to make them a success. We begin the month of remembrance with Cemetery Sunday on November 2nd. It is a beautiful way to remember all our relatives on the feast of All Souls. My involvement in Remembrance Day activities has always been a priority over the years. One of my favourite Canadian artist, Terry Kelly, sums up the importance of Remembrance Day in his song, A Pittance of Time In peace may they rest. May we never forget why they died. Check it out on Youtube if you get a chance. ( I know a great number of you attend the service at the hospital each November 11th. It would be great if we could gather that day in the crowd. Look for the Knights of Columbus banner. As human beings, we have a natural fear of death and we rebel against its apparent finality. There are three reasons why this is the case: 1) fear of the unknown, 2) the apparent destruction of all that was beautiful and great in our lifetime, and, 3) also a fear of judgement, in particularly for those actions that with skill, we often remove or attempt to remove from our consciousness. Our faith reminds us that in Christ, death no longer appears as an abyss of emptiness, but rather a path to life which will never end. In the Catholic Church, the month of November is dedicated to praying for the dead. It is tradition to visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. To pray for loved ones who have left us is a good reminder of the Communion of Saints and that there is a close link between we who still walk upon the earth and our countless brothers and sisters who have already reached eternity. Did you know that our Council makes the Hall available to many charitable organizations without a fee? That is a sign of our Knights in Action.

The hall will be open from 12:00 3:00 for Fellowship, Food, and Entertainment. This year, we will be presenting an excellent assortment of food offerings prepared by our own culinary artisans. We are the envy of many Councils that don't have a permanent place to call Home we can all be proud of our facility. Did you know that our Council makes the Hall available to many charitable organizations without a fee? That is a sign of our Knights in Action. It can't be said too often though that community rentals for meetings, parties, family occasions are an important component of our budget so keep the club in mind when you hear of friends or family or business organizations looking for a place to hold an event. We have everything it takes to make your event memorable. Thanks to Megan Buchanan who filled in on some administrative duties recently at the club. We certainly appreciate it. The Columbus Club Board is small so every person has a role to play - my thanks to all of you for stepping up and taking on the various work that needs to be done to keep us successful.
