2 GK Message continued from page 1 arise. We have another fundraiser in the fall. I need everyone s help in this effort. We have had the same great volunteers every time. We need new blood to help Your council fulfill its mission of Charity. The time needed is minimal and training is provided. The only real skill that is needed is the ability to count. We have a summer party coming up in August. See included article. There is a request from one of our brother Knights for his help with his vocation. Please read his story. Thank You. I would also like to welcome our newest member, James Strelecki Vivat Jesus! Grand Knight Mark H. Hornbacher. SUMMER EVENT This year we have decided to combine our summer picnic with Clawson Fr. Lynch Council It will be held August 17 at 1:00pm at 870 N. Main, Clawson. Our council will pay the $6.00 per person cost for the event. $12.00 per couple Hamburger, Hotdogs, Brats, and beer will be provided. Please bring a dish to pass. Outdoor games for the whole family will be provided. This is a family event. Fundraising Updates Since 2011 when we started doing charity poker we have made 18, for our charities We had a poker fundraiser in May. We raised $ for our charities. This was done with only 16 workers. 3 shifts Mark H. Hornbacher, Joe Holota, Dan Remeika. 2 Shifts Larry Sharer, Tony Caruso, Sean Dare, Mark J. We also had a poker fundraiser in July where we raised $ We did this with 12 workers. We had several volunteers that worked multiple shifts. 3 I am Roberto Saull, Why I am and became a Knight and why I do what I do As a young Catholic school student growing up in South Philly Pa. I would walk by a community center along my way to school where there was always a group of older men out playing Bocce ball. I would always sneak inside where they were playing cards and just hanging out together being buddies. I was always chased out and told come back when you grow up KID. Later I learned from my parents it was the Italian Men s Group and they were the Knights Of Columbus. I also remember the Columbus Day Parade. What a show they put on. Seeing them interact together left an impression on me. And now the WHY. Back in 2005 I attempted to take my life. By the grace of many Doctors and GOD a man with no insurance is writing you today. The GOD part was that two nights while in recovery I spoke with Him, I did not see Him, and He did not reply. I felt I was at the moment of my death and asked of Him the following. Take all the good parts of Robert and leave all that is bad of me here, give me the time to make all the bad parts good. This event occurred two nights in succession I formed and became the founder of GLOBAL GIVING PROJECTS NON FOR PROFIT. This was now and is my Vocation. In the 7 years of doing this, I have personally given thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours to the cause of helping underprivileged children and poor families, locally and globally. I hold yearly fund-raising events. Rolling Hope, Give A Poor Child A Christmas To Remember, A Summer Drive For Utility Bills Help, just to name a few. Ninety five percent are Catholics or in heavily Catholic countries. I am seeking your financial aid through a donation. I am asking you to base that on the merits of my cause. On The week of Oct 5th I will leave on my Rolling Hope Trip from the USA through Central America. I do random acts of giving during the bus travel part. Passing through Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and in Nicaragua the end of my Journey where there are two families with 6 children. I have helped them with all forms of financial aid for 7 + years and check up on their situation. I am that grown up kid now. It is not an easy thing to do, asking for money. I have always tried to do this on my own. Now that I have become more educated about what the Knights of Columbus stand for not only in word but in action, it gives me the hope that you may see the merits in my cause and assist me on this journey and path that my vocation has led me to. 4 Insurance Moment The pitfalls of replacing coverage We all know the old adage, the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence. When it comes to replacing your existing Knights of Columbus life insurance with coverage offered by another company, the adage holds true. Perceptions are deceiving. A move to the other side of the fence might seem like a good one, but it can leave you with less green in your wallet in some cases, a lot less. That s why it pays to remember another old saying, Read the fine print. There are many reasons to keep your existing coverage in force, whether that coverage is with the Knights of Columbus or with another company. I ll focus on the potential pitfalls of replacing coverage here pitfalls that an agent trying to convince you that the grass actually is greener might neglect to mention. First, all life insurance contracts contain a contestability period, which allows the insurer to contest claims made for a period typically two years after the contract is issued. Chances are this is no longer an issue with your current coverage. Second, it s unlikely that you can obtain the same amount of coverage, for the same premium, that you were able to obtain with your existing contract. The two factors that determine how much you ll need to pay for life insurance coverage are age and health. Certainly, you re older now than you were when you took out your current coverage. There s no way around that one. And you have to ask yourself, has your health changed during that time? Is your blood pressure the same? Your cholesterol? Have you gained weight? All these can factors affect the amount of coverage you ll get for your premium dollar. If someone encourages you to replace or worse, drop your existing coverage, please call me.
