Summary The Narendra Modi government has allowed setting up the Islamic Bank in India. The first branch of Islamic bank is likely to be opened in Ahmedabad. This is to recall that Muslim countries have been demanding that Islamic bank should be allowed to do business in India but the matter was kept in limbo for long due to opposition from the Reserve Bank of India. A deal has been signed with the Islamic Development Bank in this regard. This bank uses its profit for the expansion of Islam. Now, the question is whether present guideline of the RBI would be amended for running Islamic Bank in India. Islamic Bank does not give any interest to its account holders because both taking and giving interest is sin in Islam. The bank works under the Sharia laws. Exodus of Hindu families from Kairana due to jihadi elements has taken a very serious turn. Urdu newspapers are openly whitewashing on jihadi activities. Shaurya Training Camp organized by Bajrang Dal in Uttar Pradesh was played up by the Urdu newspapers. The Samajwadi Party government filed cases for inciting communal enmity against organizers of these camps under pressure from the Muslim organizations. However, Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik supported these camps by saying that such camps are organized tofor self defence. Muslim organizations vehemently opposed the instruction for chanting of Om and Vedic hymns on the International Yoga Day while performing Yoga. Darul Uloom, Deoband, issued a fatwa in this regard calling it a sin for Muslims. It has been said in the fatwa that Muslims must withdraw their children from such schools where Yoga and Surya Namaskar are performed. The government had to withdraw its order in view of protest from the Muslim community. Urdu newspapers analyzed Assembly elections held in the five states of the country in their own way. They said that PM Narendra Modi failed to make his mark in these elections and the BJP has won only in Assam. The newspapers said that the Congress avoided alliance with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) of Badruddin Ajmal. Had there been an alliance with Badruddin Ajmal, Muslim votes would not have been divided. The BJP would not have been able come to power in Assam. Newspapers expressed happiness over the success of Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal and Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu. They said that regional political parties continued wielding their influence. Muslims are angry with the Samajwadi Part government in Uttar Pradesh on the recently announced names of candidates for the Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad. Muslim leaders alleged that Mulayam Singh wasneglecting Muslims. They criticized that out of seven nominations, not a single Muslim was nominated while there was just one Muslim out of nine names in the list of Vidhan Parishad. Muslim leaders have threatened that the Samajwadi Party would pay the price for this the next Assembly election. Influence of Islamic State's chief Caliph Abu Bakr al-baghdadi is increasing. Recently, five naval officers were sentenced to death for revolting against al-baghdadi. These officers were alleged to have planned capturing a warship of Pakistan to attack American ships. 5 NATIONAL I Islamic Banking in India The Narendra Modi government has opened the door for the controversial and much talked about Islamic Bank in India. According to a Delhi-based Urdu newspaper Sahafat (May 25), Islamic Development Bank of Saudi Arabia is opening Islamic Bank in India which will start from Gujarat. Islamic Development Bank (IDB) works under the Sharia Laws and its purpose is to uplift Muslim community. This bank has 56 members. Islamic Bank signed a pact with Indian banks during Modi's visit to Saudi Arabia in April. Islamic Bank will make $550 lakh available for the medical facilities in rural India. Islamic Bank plans to run 350 medical vans under this programme which would work as mobile clinic in the rural area. Besides that it had shown interest in small and medium industries. Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University Zafar Sareshwala said that India would be benefited after Islamic Banks forays into India. Sareshwala had gone to Saudi Arabia along with Modi. This news report was published by another Urdu newspaper Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on May 25. According to Kapil Dave of the English newspaper The Times of India in its Ahmedabad edition (May 24), when PM Narendra Modi visited Saudi Arabia Islamic Development Bank entered into a deal with an Indian Bank called EXIM Bank and as per the deal it would invest $10 billion. Besides that another deal worth $5.5 crore was signed with Islamic Development Bank under which 350 automatic medical van will be made available in the rural areas. For the time being 30 vans will be made available in the tribal areas of Gujarat like Chhota Udepur, Narmada and Bharuch districts. According to the newspaper, Islamic Development Bank and its affiliate organization Islamic Corporation discussed the matter with the officials of Reserve Bank of India. Zafar Sareshwala, a close associate of PM Modi, said that the first branch of Islamic Bank would be opened in Ahmedabad. The bank will help small and medium entrepreneurs. He said that with the Islamic Bank coming to India there was the possibility of private investment pouring in India from the friendly countries. Islamic Development Bank will also hugely invest in the development of Waqf Properties. According to Zafar Sareshwala, there are a huge number of waqf properties in Gujarat but since waqf board does not have enough money to develop them, they are neglected. Islamic Development Bank will hugely invest into waqf properties to develop them. Comment: Islamic countries had been trying to set up Islamic Bank in India for several decades. The Kerala government had set up a joint venture of Private Financial Corporation with the aim of setting up branches of Islamic Bank with their help that included huge investment from the private sector. But the RBI did not allow Islamic Bank to work in Kerala because Islamic Bank was not fit in its benchmark so they could be allowed to work in India. The biggest hurdle was that Islamic Bank did not give any interest on any deposit in the bank account as giving and taking interest are sin as per Islam. However, banks set up as per Indian Banking System give interest on any deposit in the bank. Muslim members have taken up the matter of setting up Islamic Bank in Parliament on several occasions but the ruling India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Congress did not allow setting up Islamic Bank. Muslim MPs argued that if Islamic Bank started functioning in India, new opportunities of investment will come up. Indian infrastructure could be developed with the help of Islamic nations. Muslims had set up a private firm in Hyderabad which trained Muslim youths to run Islamic banks. Muslim organizations in the country have been lobbying for conducive environment in the country for over two decades but they had failed. The Important question is that if RBI would allow functioning of Islamic Bank in India? Will there be amendment in the previous norms laid downs for banks? Will there be any interference of the government or the RBI in the functioning of this bank? Experts are of the view that if Islamic Bank is started in the country, it must take the benefit of Article 25 to 31 in which minorities are guaranteed that the government would not interfere into the institutions set up by the community. If this happens, Islamic Banks might become a big headache for the country. Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy took the matter to the Supreme Court and he said that setting up Islamic Bank would encourage Islamisation of the country. This is to recall that Islamic Development Bank is the national bank of Saudi Arabia. This helps in propagating Islam and conversion. Around seven year ago, in the board of directors meeting it was expressed that since there are crores of non-muslims in India, there is a possibility of conversion. A detailed programme was prepared by this bank for conversion in India. As per the information, Islamic Bank is spread across 56 countries in the world. The conference of chiefs of Islamic nations that was held in Rowat in 1969 and as per the decision taken there an Islamic secretariat was set up in Jeddah to prepare planning for setting up Islamic Banks. After that the first Islamic Bank was set up in Cairo in 1972, second in Jeddah in Help from all Islamic countries was taken and at present branches of Islamic bank is spread in 56 countries. This Islamic Bank is under the supervision of Shah of Saudi Arab. India will be the first non-islamic nation where branches of Islamic Bank would be set up. II Urdu media on exodus of Hindus from Kairana Hindus are forced to leave Kairana and Kandhla towns of Uttar Pradesh due to aggressive attitude of Muslims. Anti-Hindu leaders and Urdu newspapers are hell bent upon covering up the matter. Most of the Delhi-based newspapers called migration of Hindus from Kairana as baseless. Sahafat on June 14 published this news report as the main news with the headline Blatant lie of Hindu migration from Kairana exposed. The list provided by BJP MP Hukum Singh had 11 such names that had migrated years ago due to economic and business purposes. None of the Hindu family migrated due to terror as claimed by Hukum Singh. The list has some Jai Kumar Dhiman and Poni at 165 and 166 places and his brother Manu Dhiman is living in Basatiya locality for several decades. He said that his brother had left the locality for business purpose. He used to live in Basatiya locality but he had sold his house around 10 year ago. Now, a Congress leader Mohammad Aalam Choudhary lives here. The list India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

issued by Hukum Singh has the name of three sons of Mange Ram but when TV crew reached on the spot his nephew Shiv Kumar Prajapati said that Mange Ram and his family left Kairana looking for job opportunity. In another news report Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav targeted the BJP by saying that they are dishonest and deliberately defaming the government. He said that the BJP was doing a false propaganda and politics over the matter. The same newspaper published another news report in which it was reported that the district administration constituted four teams to investigate the matter. District Magistrate of Shamli Sujit Kumar said that every team would have a Tehsildar, an SDM and one DSP and they would look into reasons for migrating 346 families by visiting every household. Shamli SP Vijay Bhooshan said that people listed by the MP had several people who had migrated years ago. The government is looking into the matter. According to Hamara Samaj (June 15), president of Bahujan Samaj Party Ms Mayawati criticized mentioning incidents of Kairana by saying that this was an attempt to cause communal tension looking at the forthcoming Assembly elections. She said that the Samajwadi Party failed to answer the BJP in a proper manner. She said that exodus took place due to wrong policies of the Centre and the state. The newspaper said in another report that Kairana MP took a U turn and said that this was not a communal matter but was activities of criminals. He accepted that list of people migrating was made by his workers might have some errors. Hamara Samaj in its editorial on June 15 termed the claim made by the BJP as the bundle of lies. Hindus of Kairana are not migrating out of any fear but in search of jobs. The newspaper asked Hukum Singh that if people had left the city due to gondaism then why he did not contact police. Does he want to make it another Muzaffarnagar? The newspaper alleged that the BJP was doing polarization before elections therefore it was taking up issues like caste, cow slaughter; love Jihad, Ghar Wapsi and arm training. Hindustan Express on June 15, 2016 gave headline Politics hot on the issue of migration of Hindus from Kairana. The newspaper in its editorial on June 15 criticised to the fact that the BJP was trying to vitiate environment of Uttar Pradesh and spreading false news about migration of Hindus. Earlier also the BJP has been trying to cause tension between Hindus and Muslims. Reporters of the Indian Express investigated the matter by visiting the spot exposing the BJP leadership. Dainik Sahafat on June 15 had the headline on the statement of Hukum Singh BJP MP's U turn after lies of Kairana getting exposed. The same newspaper published the statement of district magistrate of Shamli in which it was said that there was normalcy in the town and there was no communal tension. Sahafat in its editorial alleged that the BJP wanted to win elections by causing communal tension therefore communalism was being spread. Dainik Inquilab on June 15 gave headline to the main news Conspiracy of the 'BJP to cause communal riots', 'BSP presidents attacks the BJP', and 'if the BJP has guts then it should impose President's Rule'. Another new report had the headline U turn by the MP in the matter of Kairana. It is also reported in another news report that the Centre had sent a notice to the state government and asked for report. The newspaper alleged in the editorial that in the national executive of the BJP at India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Allahabad Modi was once again praised. This way attempt was being made to misguide people. Recently the BJP has won only in Assam but in rest of the state it did miserably bad. The newspaper claimed that the BJP was trying to cause communal tension. In another editorial Hukum Singh was alleged that he kept silent on mysterious murder of his wife and reached Parliament on communal wave. He is flaring communal tension to become chief minister of the UP. Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on June 15 published the statement of Mayawati very prominently in which she alleged the BJP for inciting communal tension to win elections. Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on June 13 claimed that the BJP MP's statement on exodus of Hindus in Kairana was not correct. This is to recall that MP from Kairana alleged that the way Kashmiri pundits were driven out of the Kashmir Valley similarly 346 Hindu families of Kairana were forced to leave their ancestral villages due to a particular community. He issued the list of people fled from the area. Hukum Singh had said that he would not allow Kairana to become Kashmir. The newspaper claimed that after verification to the list provided by the BJP MP, it was clear that several people had left the area years ago in search of better prospects. They settled down at some other places. People had gone to get higher education were also included in the list. The list included such people who had sold their ancestral houses on higher prices and built new houses in the outside localities. This is to recall that in 2014 it was alleged on one Mukeem of Kairana for demanding protection money and killed three businessmen when demand was not fulfilled. He also killed some Muslims. Shamli SP said that the matter was being investigated and it was found in the investigation that most of the people migrated as per their wish not out of fear. He said that there was no communal tension in Kairana. III Clash over question of leadership in Tablighi Jamaat According to Dainik Sahafat (May 19), there was a clash between two maulana over controlling international Islamic organization Tablighi Jamaat. According to the newspaper, chief of Tablighi Jamaat Maulana Jubair died last year ever since the matter of succession was in dispute between his son Jahirul Hasan and another associate Maulana Asad. The Central Executive of Jamat decided not to make anyone chief of Jamat and its activities to be run collectively. Tablighi Jamaat is spread across 110 countries in the world. The organization is alleged to be involved in terrorist activities while people of Jamaat say that they are just involved in propagation of Islam. They are not linked to any terrorist activities. According to Inquilab (May 19), two groups of Tablighi Jamaat clashed at its headquarters in which police had to interfere. The police are investigating into the matter. This is to recall that after the death of chief of Tablighi Jamaat Hajrat Maulana Jubair Kandhalvi, there are differences over to get important positions in the organization. One group wanted to make chief to Maulana Asad while the other group wanted to make Maulana Zahir al Hasan as chief who is the son of former chief late India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Maulana Jubair. Ever since central executive committee -- Jamate Shoora -- decided that no individual would be made chief of this organization, there is dispute everyday in Jamat on some or other issue. Maulana Jahir Hasan was going somewhere but he was stopped and this caused violent clash between the two groups. Someone has made a police complaint so five people were called to the police station. Both the groups were alleging each other. Supporters of Maulana Asad alleged that supporters of Maulana Jahir ul Hasan attacked them and they had called goons from outside. According to Inquilab (May 20), prominent leader of Milli education Maulana Mohammad Riyasat criticized clashes in Tablighi Jamaat. He said that these clashes had caused heavy decline in the activities of Tablighi Jamaat and its works reached a standstill. Tablighi Jamaat in terrorist activities According to the US intelligence agency FBI, Tablighi Jamaat is the biggest organization in the world which prepares jihadies. It has branches in 159 countries with the following of crore. In the past 5 years, it was involved in converting 25 crore non-muslims to Muslim. Most of these new converts are from Europe, America, Africa and Asian countries. Jihadies trained by the organization are recruited by Al Qaida, Boko Haram, al Ansar, Taliban and over three dozen other terrorist organizations. FBI in its report expressed concern that the influence of this organization was increasing in European countries and America by the day. It is also said in the report that workers of this most dreaded organization in the world work silently and away from the media glare. Therefore activities of this organization and people working for the organization don't come in the radar of intelligence agencies. British newspaper 'Security Weekly' (January 23, 2008)published a special report of two investigative journalists Freid Burton and Scot Stuwart in which it was claimed that Spain police raided in a mosque in Barcelona city on January 19, 2015 and arrested 14 terrorists. Huge arms and ammunitions were recovered from these terrorists. Spanish minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba told reporters that arrested persons have relations with terrorist Islamic organization Tablighi Jamaat. People arrested included 12 Pakistani, one Indian and one Bangladeshi. The same newspaper claimed that even terrorists related to Tablighi Jamaat were arrested in Portland in America in October 2002 and six terrorists were arrested from Lakwana in September Involvement of Jamaat was found in the conspiracy of bombing a US bound flight from London in There was involvement of Jamaat in metro blasts in London on July and again in July 2007 Scotland Yard confirmed involvement of Jamaat in blasts in London and Glasgow. What is Tablighi Jamaat? A very few people and media know that this dreaded terrorist organization has its headquarters in a mosque in the Nizamuddin locality in Delhi. When Aarya Samaj started its campaign to bring forcefully converted Hindus to Islam to Hindu fold once again in 1920 and the responsibility of this campaign was in the hands of Swami Shradhdhanand. The programme called Shuddhi was started from the Mewat region close to Delhi. Muslims living in this region are called Meo who were forcefully converted to Islam by Muslim ruler Ghiyas ud din Balban. Interesting thing is that despite over 1000 years have passed these Rajput Muslims did not give up Hindu culture and religion completely. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Deewan of Alwar Major Powlet wrote in Gazette in 1878 that though all Meo's are Muslims but they are Muslims just for the name shake. There is the influence of Hindu religion and culture over them. Most of them have names like Krishna Singh, Vishan Singh, Ram Singh, Hanuman Singh and Shiv Pratap Singh and their women are like Raj Kanwar, Ram Kanwar and Shyam Kanwar. They worship Hindu Gods and Goddess despite being Muslims. They celebrate Hindu festivals and visit temples regularly. Holi and Ram Navmi are their important festivals. Most of them don't offer namaj and don't go to mosques. They don't know Kalma and Quran. They don't marry off their children in the same gotra like Hindus. They don't marry their children to sons and daughters in the blood relations. Their marriages are performed by Hindu priests and follow traditions and rites of Rajput. Shuddhi Movement had a major impact on Mao and hundreds of Muslims had come back to Hinduism from Islam. Hindus from states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat forcefully converted to Islam were returning to original faith due to the efforts of Aarya Samaj. This was not liked by radical Muslims and a fanatic Muslim Abdul Rasheed killed Swami Shradhnand in 1926 in Naya Bajar area of Delhi by stabbing him brutally. Sitaram Goyal in his book 'Muslim Separatism' held Tablighi Jamaat responsible for the killing. Goyal also alleged in this book that riots in 1992 in Mewat region had hands of Tablighi Jamat in which several temples were destroyed. A book called Muslim Kattarwad in Dakshin Asia by Mumtaz Ahmed expresses its view that Tablighi Jamaat has very important role in inciting communal violence. Sahil Mayaram in his book 'Resisting Regime' expressed his opinion that terrorist background of Tablighi Jamaat goes back to Wahabi movement of Syed Ahmed Shah Barelwi and Firazi movement of Shariyat Ullah. These books also allege that to start Tablighi movement in India Maulana Ilyas got huge funds from the foreign sources. Besides that several Islamic principalities like Nizam of Hyderabad, Nawab of Rampur and Nawab of Bhopal donated crores of rupees to Tablighi Jamaat from their coffers. In response to the Shuddhi movement started by Aarya Samaj, Tablighi Jamaat was started from a mosque Banglewala in Nijamuddin area by a resident of Kandhla town in Uttar Pradesh Maulana Mohammad Ilyas Kandhalvi in 1926 with huge financial assistance from the foreign countries. He has relations with Wahabi and Salafi ideologies. He got Islamic religious education from Darul Uloom, Deoband. He used to teach religious education at Islamic Religious Institution Majar ul Uloom in Saharanpur. He gave a new slogan to Muslims 'Muslims! Be Muslims'. After that his entire effort was to stop Sudhdhi movement and spreading Wahabi and Jihadi ideology among Muslims. His family was associated with jihadi ideology from the very beginning whose proponent was famous jihadi maulana of 16th century Maulana Mujahidul Islam Sirhindi. This tradition produced many jahadies. Teacher of Maulana Ilyas was Rashid Ahmad Gangohi who was associated with founder of Darul Uloom, Deoband Muhammad Qasim Nanotvi. In 1946, the organization started its tentacles in several countries. After partition of the country Tablighi Jamaat of Pakistan was set up at Raiwind near Lahore. In 1949 another centre was set up in Dhaka. In two decades, the organization spread across entire Asia, Africa, Europe and America. Its organization in England was set up in Duse Bury in This Centre takes care of the activities of the organization for entire Europe. New York has the headquarters of American Tablighi Jamaat. There are over mosques belonging to Tablighi Jamaat in Europe and America. Recently Tablighi Jamaat tried to spread its wings in the Muslim majority areas of Russia but India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

looking at the dangerous terrorist activities the Kirgizstan government imposed a ban on it. Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan had already banned it. After the death of Mohammad Ilyas the organization was taken over by his son Maulana Mohammad Yusuf and after the death of Yusuf his son Maulana Inamul was at the helm. After Maulana Inamul's death his son Maulana Zabirul Hasan became chief of the organization and he died in March 2014 but some people started protesting anointment of his son Maulana Zahirul Hasan as new chief of the organization. Now a committee of seven main leaders of Tablighi Jamaat has been constituted to solve this dispute. How does Tablighi Jamaat work? How does Tablighi Jamaat work is a mystery? No one knows that how this international organization works? From where it gets so much funds? Intelligence agencies across the world are trying to unearth secret of the organization but no success has been achieved so far. But this outfit organizes big conferences across the country in which lakh people participate. These conferences are organized for week or two continuously. Billions of rupees are spent on these conferences but no one knows from where the money comes from. As far as India is concern last year 33 big conferences were organized in which 20 to 25 lakh Muslims participated. Similar organizations are done in other countries as well. Last year International conference was organized in Dhaka in which around 40 lakh people participated. In the beginning of this year, a conference was organized in Raiwind in Pakistan in which 25 lakh Pakistani had participated. Similarly such conferences are organized in European countries and African countries. Media is kept away from these conferences and it is claimed that in these conferences purely religious propagation is done. However, Jihad and terrorism have been part of Islam since beginning. As per sources of Jamat, propagation of Islam and bringing non-muslims to Islamic fold is done in a planned manner. Mosques spread across the world are main centers of this campaign. Imam in their Khutba emphasize on every Fridayin their sermon that every Muslim has a religious duty to give one month's time for expansion and propagation of Islam. It is expected from every Muslim that he must live in a mosque for a month. Every Muslim household entertain the person as guest who is taking Tablighi training. Imam and Ulama give sermon from morning till late night in which they are told about the danger posed before Islam that Islam and Muslims are in danger. If Muslims did not pay heed to it, then Muslim and Islam will disappear. They are also told about the Islamic rule in the world and its glorious tale is fed in their minds. In special meetings misinformation campaign is unleashed about torture of Muslims in different countries by non-believers. In this brainwashing campaign, they are made to realize that it was the duty of every Muslim to participate in jihad by taking a sword for the defence and glory of Islam. The person who does not follow these instruction he actually disobeys Prophet Mohammad Saheb's words and he is not a Muslim rather is a non-believer. Besides that they are encouraged that converting non-muslims to Islam is their religious duty. If they want to go to heaven then they must convert at least 10 non-muslims to Islam each else on the doomsday God will ask that why did he not try to brings non believers to Islamic Muslim faith and he will be sent to hell for ever. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

IV Protest over chanting Om Akhbar Mashriq in its editorial on May 20 wrote that a letter had been sent to all universities and schools across the country in which it was emphasized that everyday prayer, Om chanting and recitation of Ved hymns to be done. The newspaper alleged that the government wanted to extend Hindutva agenda by forcing people to chant Ved hymns through Yoga. This is the reason that the Congress opposed it. The Congress said that Yoga was part of the ancient civilization of the country but it was not property of saffron party. Janata Dal (U) also alleged the BJP that it wanted to thrust its communal agenda in the name of Yoga. CPM leader Vrinda Karat said that the government had no right to force Om chanting and it cannot impose its ideology on others. No one will accept it. Every Muslim organization opposed it and Darul Uloom issued a decree against it by saying that chanting Om was against Islamic faith. Manager of Darul Uloom Maulana Naumani said that Om was part of Hindu religious worship. The way idol worship cannot be imposed on people of other faiths similarly imposing Om was also wrong. He said that decision of Ayush ministry was condemnable and Muslims must boycott International Yoga Day. Muslims must not send their children to schools and colleges. Chanting Om was not allowed in Islam. Last year also the matter was in controversy, the government had then instructed that chanting Om was not compulsory. Now joint secretary of Ayush ministry said that Om should be chanted and Veda hymns should be chanted. No one will keep silent on this. The newspaper expressed happiness that the government obduracy will not succeed. According to Akhbar Mashriq (May 21), president of All India Imam Council Maulana Osman Beg Rashidi said that opposing Yoga and chanting of Om were against Islam and they cannot be thrust on anyone. He said that ever since the BJP came to power, Muslims were being targeted. Ideology was being imposed on people. He said that Muslims would not anything against constitution of the country. According to Sahafat (May 26), controversy generated over International Yoga Day Ayush minister Shripad Naik said that it was wrong to associate it with any religion. According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (May 19), Muslim leaders have opposed chanting Om in the Yoga camps organized for International Yoga Day. According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (May 19), the government of India instructed that on the occasion of International Yoga Day Om and Vedic hymns would be chanted. According to Inquilab (May 18), Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal said that it was decided no one would be forced to chant Om then why decisions were changed? He said that this was attack on religious freedom. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

V Samajwadi Party's allied apathy towards Muslim Hamara Samaj on May 19 alleged that the Samajwadi Party had forgotten the promises made by the party before elections. The newspaper published a report on the front page with the headline Samajwadis cheated Muslims; Muslims to take revenge. The newspaper said that Muslim organizations had opposed the decision of Mulayam Singh. Muslims have been neglected for the Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad nominations. The SP announced names of seven candidates but not a single Muslim was nominated. Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari said that Muslims would take revenge from the party. He alleged that Mulayam Singh concordat with the BJP, VHP and Baba Ramdev. Chief of Jamate Islami Maulana Jalaluddin Umri said that Samajwadi Party betrayed Muslims. Muslims were promised to be given 18 per cent reservation but no reservation was given. Secretary of Jamiat Ulama e Hind Abdul Hameed Nomani said that Mulayam Singh only used Muslims and he did not do justice to Muslims. Around 4.5 years have completed since the SP came to power but Muslims have not been given reservation. Inquilab on May 18 gave headline Amar Singh's come back to Samajwadi Party. Samajwadi Party announced names for Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Sabha candidates. Besides Amar Singh this included Beni Prashad Verma who deserted Congress for the SP while for Vidhan Parishad Mulayam Singh's personal secretary Jagjivan Prashad, Bukkal Nawab, Kamlesh Pathak, Jaswant Singh, Ram Sundar, Shatru Prakash, Ranvijay Singh and Balram Singh Yadav. The newspaper claimed that Amar Singh came back to the SP and denial of ticket to Aziz Qureshi gave a blow to Azam Khan. This is to recall that relation between Azam Khan and Amar Singh has always been very bitter. It is also said that some people had objection over the name of Beni Prashad Verma. Sahafat on June 18 published a news report on the front page in which it was said that Mulayam Singh Yadav was interested to enter into secret deal with the BJP. Amar Singh was given Rajya Sabha ticket however he brought Kalyan Singh to the SP fold who was responsible for demolition of Babri mosque. The way SP was ignoring Muslim, it questioned their secularism. The newspaper claimed that the SP would have to pay heavy price for its anti-muslim attitude in the next Assembly elections. Hamara Samaj on May 18 had the headline for this news report Samajwadi Party once again disappoints Muslims, list of seven candidates for Rajya Sabha has no Muslim. The newspaper alleged that none of the promises made by the SP in 2012 have been fulfilled. Communal violence broke all records and Muslims consider themselves insecure. The SP promised to give 18 per cent reservation to Muslims but it has not been fulfilled. The newspaper demanded justice must be done to Muslims else the SP would have to pay heavy price for it. According to Hamara Samaj (May 20), Shahi Imam of Delhi Imam Ahmad Bukhari met with Mulayam Singh Yadav and chief minister of Uttar Pradesh that Muslims must get reservation in government jobs. He said that Muslims would not support the SP in the next Assembly elections if the SP did not do justice with Muslims. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

VI Elections in five states in the eyes of Urdu newspapers Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on May 21 accepted that graph of the Congress was continuously falling. West Bengal where Mamata Banerjee's TMC got 211 seats in Assembly elections, the Congress and the Left front alliance got 74 seats while the BJP got just three. The Congress entered into an alliance with the Left Front with a view to throw Mamata Banerjee out of power but it failed to do so. The performance of the BJP in Assam was satisfactory. The Congress was of the view that it is in power for 15 years so it would be voted to power once again therefore it refused to enter into alliance with All India United Democratic Front Badruddin Azmal. The BJP was benefitted with it. The BJP was benefitted by the anger against the Congress. Had the Congress done alliance with the AIUDF, it would not have faced such shameful defeat. Minority votes in Assam are in big number and their vote got divided between the Congress and AIUDF that benefitted the BJP. Jaylalithaa made record in Tamil Nadu by securing second consecutive term after 27 years. The name of Jayalalithaa was involved in several scams but people ignored them. The Congress was defeated in Kerala because people were angry with Oommen Chandy in the state. Therefore the Congress needs to learn a lesson from it. The Congress must analyze these results so it is able to wrest power from the BJP in Assembly elections are due in 2017 in Uttar Pradesh and for that the Congress must start preparations for it. Hindustan Express on May 21 claimed in its editorial that the Congress' base is getting weaken and the BJP was getting strengthened. It was expanding its area of work. Losing Assam and Kerala was a big blow for the Congress. The Congress failed to assess anger of people of Assam and contested election alone. The reason for the victory of the party in Assam was its defeat in Bihar and Delhi as it took lesson from these debacles. Had there been an alliance between the Congress and Badruddin Ajmal, the BJP would not have come to power. The newspaper criticized that secular parties were shedding crocodile tears after defeat but they did not do anything to stop secular votes getting divided. Sahafat in its editorial on May 21 said that the wave in favour of Mamata Banerjee that started during the last Assembly elections was still continuing. Opponents who tried to dislodge Mamata from power failed to do so. Communal card of the BJP failed to work in West Bengal. Inquilab on May 21 expressed astonishment over the fact that the BJP did not get must success in the elections of five states but its party leaders were celebrating. The reason was that the party was trying to cover up the loss for failing to get expected vote share. Sahafat on May 20 expressed astonishment over the fact that the BJP came to power in Assam. The newspaper wrote that Assam Gan Parishad and the BJP entered into alliance and credit of the victory could be given to them while magic of Mamata Banerjee once again worked in West Bengal. BJP failed to distract Bengalies from voting in favour of Mamata Banerjee. Election campaign of India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Narendra Modi was unsuccessful in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Left Front snatched power in Kerala from Assam. Weekly Nai Duniya on May 30 accepted in its editorial that influence of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah increased in these elections while Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi both failed. Result of West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala elections made it clear that now the country was becoming Congress-free and the BJP was expanding its base. Regional parties are divided and their attempt to come to one platform failed to work. Interesting thing is that where the BJP had not won, the Congress lost there also like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Now the battle for 2019 elections started and the BJP was preparing for it. VII Controversy over arms-training at Shaurya Shivir According to Sahafat (May 26), cases have been filed against leaders of Bajrang Dal and some other for spreading hatred on the basis of religion during an arm training camp in Ayodhya. The camp was organized on May 14 and in this camp a particular community was shown terrorist in the slogan and by cloths. When the matter was raised the Bajrang Dal called it to be done for self defence. Special superintendent of the police in Faizabad Mohit Gupta told reporters that cases under Section 153 (a) of IPC have been filed against Bajrang Dal leaders. As per sources, Bajrang Dal organized the camp at Karsevakpuram in which youths were given self defence training. Uttar Pradesh governor said that there was nothing wrong to give such training for self defence. Those who can't defend themselves how would they defend the country? The Congress criticized this comment very sharply. Inquilab in its editorial on May 26 criticised Bajrag Dal for organizing such training camp. It was written in the editorial that the literal meaning of Ayodhya was where no war takes place but Bajrag Dal was providing war training there. They were sending this message across the world that Ayodhya was not important for them. Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on May 26 alleged that the BJP was doing all preparations to win elections in Uttar Pradesh. Temple issue was being racked up once again for division of votes. Bajrang Dal was trying to communally surcharge so it was organizing camps all across Uttar Pradesh. Hatred was being spread in the state. Workers of Bajrang Dal wielded rifles, swords and canes and it was shown on news channels. Now these camps will be organized in Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Pilibhit and Noida etc. Leaders of Bajrang Dal said that it was an attempt to generate religious feelings. Urdu newspapers wrote openly against camp in Ayodhya. Inquilab on May 25 published a news report on the front page with the headline Conspiracy to make India a Libya or Syria. The newspaper said that Hindu organizations too started protesting against it. Swami Agnivesh said that action must India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

be taken against such trainings. Swami Chakrapani said that when elections were closer organizations like the RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal try to vitiate environment. He said that preparation was being made to kill whom. What kind of war training is given? If the RSS wants to build a temple in Ayodhya, why not it gets the law passed to build it. He said that if temple was built by crushing sentiments of people, we would not accept it. Society needs peace first. Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on May 27 reported asking that who was fanning such radical programme and what was the purpose of organizing such camp. What right any organisation has to give any one arm training. Camp organized by the Bajrang Dal was illegal. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Western Asia I Al Qaeda to announced new Caliphate According to Weekly Nai Duniya (May 23), a new war is expected to start soon in Islam in the name of new Caliphate. It is said that future Caliph of Al Qaida would be Hamza bin Laden the younger son of Osama bin Laden. He is living in some part of Pakistan or Afghanistan. Ever since al Qaida rebel Abu Baqar al Baghdadi became self proclaimed Caliph, al Qaida was facing real time trouble. In a recent video, the son of Osama emphasized to the fact that Aalam e Islam must now focus on jihad in Syria and must unite jihadies as the entire world is joining hands against Islam. This is to recall that Osama bin Laden along with his elder son Khalid bin Laden was killed by American Marine in Abbottabad city in Pakistan in May Now younger son of Osama bin Laden joined the battlefield. In a recently released video, he had said that war in Syria was the path of freedom for Palestine. Jerusalem is our bride and our blood is its dowry. Present chief of al Qaida Amen al Dohari said that Islamic State was an American creation therefore we would fight with it. Most probably this war would start in Syria. At present jihad in Syria was being done by al Nasid al Front which is a branch of al Qaida. Caliph al Baghdadi was part of al Qaida till 2013 but he revolted against al Qaida and formed his own organisation announcing New Caliphate. Now, it is a matter of life and death for al Qaida to finish New Caliphate. Abu Bakr al Baghdadi had announced New Caliphate on June 29, Analysts said that both the organizations had the same goal that was Islamisation of the world and setting up New Islamic Caliphate. Osama bin Laden had dreamt of becoming Caliph but Abu Baqr al Baghdadi made that a reality. Informed sources said that Hamza bin Laden was preparing to take command of his father. Since the present chief of al Qaida Ayman al-zawahiri has grown old therefore he wanted to hand over the command of the organisation to young Hamza bin Laden. According to media reports, model Gulrukh and Hamid Fidayi were known as top models of Iran. Both these models have uploaded some picture on Facebook in which Gulrukh was without scarf which was important for women in Iran. 18 III Death sentence on 106 people According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (May 20), a military court in Lebanon sentenced to death 106 people for attacking military base. The military court held 73 Syrian and 32 Lebanoni responsible for attacking army near Harsal town. A Palestinian citizen was also sentenced to death. According to the court, they were associated with terrorist organizations. They attacked this town and abducted Lebanoni Army-men and policemen and tried to kill them. 77 people sentenced to death are in custody while 29 are absconding. These terrorists are associated with al Nasar an organisation associated with al Qaida. According to the government information, the terrorist organisation attacked Harsal in 2014 and skirmishes took place for several days. Later on 30 military-men and six policemen were abducted and later killed. IV Human right activist sentenced for 16 year According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (May 21), an Iranian court sentenced 16 years in jail to a woman human right activists for participating illegal activities for unleashing propaganda against the government. As per the government news agency, social worker Nargis Mohammadi has already been in jail for one year. She was prosecuted on several charges and was sentenced for 16 years in jail. She is alleged to have tied up with anti-iran countries and instigated people against the government and had set up an illegal organisation by setting up its office in Tehran. Human right organizations denounced sentencing this woman worker. The woman was given best journalist award last year. V India signs pact with Iran Sahafat on May 25 welcomed India-Iran deal by saying that tour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would open the door for Iran and Afghanistan cooperation which could change the fate of all the three countries Chabahar project will change the fate of the entire region. Earlier it was talked about supplying gas to India from Iran through pipeline but this project was put under question mark by the US just by showing the threat of atom bomb. Iran does not need this port but this will facilitate India and Afghanistan's direct link to Central Asia. The first phase of Chabahar port is expected to complete in one and half year. Relations between India and Afghanistan are thousands of years old and once this India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

port is complete cooperation of Afghanistan would also be given. Iran and Afghanistan both are facing terrorism. India feels that around $22 billion would be invested to build Chabahar port that would help developing sectors like railways, chemical, steel, and fertilizer. Talks in Iraq were joined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Iran Hasan Ruhani and President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani. India will spend 50 crore for the growth of this port. India will have very important role for 10 years in use of this port. Geography of this region is getting changed with the help of Iran. According to Inquilab (May 26), the US has put a question mark over India's plan to develop Chahbar port after PM Modi's Iran tour. An officer in the US administration said that it was being investigated. The US would have to look into the matter if the pact was right or not. With the completion of this project, door of India for Iran, Afghanistan and central Asia will be open. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

World I Bangladesh heading for civil war According to Weekly Nai Duniya (May 23), the condition of Bangladesh is getting deteriorated by the day. Every day a body is recovered on some or the other road. Either someone's is beheaded or stabbed in the belly. All these bodies belonged to secularists, journalists and teachers. Only in April some corpses including of a professor, an editor and of a blogger were found. Who are the people giving flame of radicalism and terrorism? Who is playing this bloody game? What will be its result? Some people are claiming that Islamic State has made its foothold in Bangladesh and they want to make the country a jihad battlefield. Some people are saying that the way leaders from the main opposition party are hanged that is encouraging terrorism. The purpose of this is to disturb stability in the country. Allegation is thrust on al Qaida or IS after every killing. However, the Bangladesh government claims that both these organizations don't have their existence in the country. Now a terrorist organisation issued a new list of teachers and writers and artists who would be killed. The most dangerous thing is that Sheikh Hasina government has not taken any action against these radicals who are spilling blood in the name of Islam and Rasool. Hasina is applauded across the world because she supported secular principals while leading 16 crore Bangladesies and dealt with radicals sternly. Jamate Islami was banned before elections but when it comes to killing of writers and intellectuals, the government has different approach. Experts say that Sheikh Hasina is playing with fire and this will destroy Bangladesh. On one hand she is getting rid of her opponents in the name of war crime and on the other encouraging radicalism in some other way. These days it is being talked about in Bangladesh that influence of Caliph Abu Bakr al Baghdadi is increasing in the country. The new generation is getting attracted towards it and it has ISIS and other such organizations behind it. When radicalism started in Bangladesh in 2014, indications were coming in that ISIS was spreading its tentacles in Bangladesh. There is no doubt about it that it has hands of local leaders. When terrorism started bloodshed in Bangladesh in 2014 then local people started joining hands in support of al Baghdadi. Recently Abu Bakr al Baghdadi announced through an internet magazine The Book appointing Sheikh Abu Ibrahim as the new head of the organisation of Bangladesh and told implementing Shariat Law in the entire country. However, the flag of Caliphate is yet to be visible in Bangladesh. No evidence was seen that this terrorist organisation was sending its terrorists to the country. The Bangladesh government announced that these killing don't have hands of ISIS. The government held opposition political parties responsible for it. The government was saying that these killings were done by Jamate Islami and Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina alleged that Bangladesh Nationalist Party with the alliance of Jamate Islami was trying to destabilize the country because both these political parties failed to cause hindrance in elections. So they are now doing it secretly by killing people. No one could deny the fact that after coming to power in 2009, Hasina pulled string on terrorists and radical Islam. After hanging Jamate Islami leaders, the opposition political parties India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

alleged that the government was targeting its political rivals. Besides that Sheikh Hasian indirectly supported religious radicalism. She said that if any one wrote against Islam it would not be tolerated. Islamic Liberation Front recently issued a list of 10 anti-islam people and expressed its desire to kill them. The name of 10 people in the list was disclosed to whom the new organisation wanted to liquidate. The list included vice chancellor of Rajshahi University Mohammad Wasiuddin. As per media reports, the government is soft on terrorist that is why big terrorist leaders are out in open. People arrested are smalltime players however the government could not dare to touch big fish. Common people believe that the government is taking the guise of ISIS to crush opponents. Defence experts feel that influence of increasing Islamic terrorism has its impact on Bangladesh as well. Though the government hanged five senior leaders of Jamate Islami but this fact cannot be denied that influence of Islamic State is increasing on people of Bangladesh very fast. Recently several terrorists were arrested in Bangladesh who had been linked to ISIS. Singapore arrested eight Bangladeshi terrorists who were alleged to be associated with ISIS. They were planning terror attacks. Arrested people were in the age group of 24 to 30. They have named their organisation as Islamic State of Bangladesh. Many people in Bangladesh are ready to go to Syria to fight under the flag of al Baghdadi. People arrested in Singapore told security agencies that their intention was to bloodbath in Bangladesh. As per the recent information, Mullah Baghdadi penetrated into the minds of Bangladeshies living in Arabic nations. The way terrorism is increasing, it is difficult for any individual to control it. Analysts say that the way jihadi elements are increasing in Bangladesh there is a potent danger of country becoming Pakistan or Afghanistan. The US advised its people not to go to Bangladesh as there might be danger to their lives. The way a professor was brutally killed in public glare that had caused fear all across the country. The way radical Jamate Islami leaders are hanged in Bangladesh protests started in several Islamic countries. Hanging of former chief of Jamate Islami 70-year-old Maulana Matiurahman Nizami was protested in several Islamic countries. National Assembly of Pakistan has even passed censor motion while Bangladesh called it interference into the internal matters by Pakistan. Pakistan said that Nijami was hanged because he was loyal to Pakistan. Nizami was a minister in the Khalida Zia government. Turkish reaction was the most sharp. The Turkey government called back its government from Bangladesh. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoðan criticized this hanging by saying that a 70- year-old Islamic fighter was hanged for no crime. Demonstrations are taking place in Turkey and several other Islamic countries against Bangladesh. Interesting thing is that the action taken by Sheikh Hasina government against Jamate Islami was welcomed by the US and India. Spokesperson of the Indian government said that it was internal matter of Bangladesh and Nijami was punished by judiciary. Similarly the US supported hanging of Nijami by the Bangladsh government. The newspaper claimed Sheikh Hasina government was fulfilling the election promises that she made in her manifesto. Attempt made by Jamate Islami to paralyze normal life in the country failed. Jamate Islami leaders are fleeing Bangladesh. Still the situation in Bangladesh set the alarm bell ringing in Bangladesh. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

II Five Navy officers sentenced to death in Pakistan According to Sahafat (May 25), a military tribunal sentenced death to five navy officers of Pakistan for attack on Karachi dockyard on September 5, Father of an accused Sayeed Ahmed confirmed it. He said that those who have been sentenced to death were accused of having link to ISIS, rebel, conspiracy and bringing arms to dockyard. According to media reports, attackers wanted to hijack Pakistani navy ship Julfikar to target American ships. On this two people were killed by security agencies while 4 were arrested. People sentenced to death included Irfanullah, Mohammad Hamad, Arsalan Najir and Hasim Najir. All accused are lodged in Karachi jail. Father of the accused said that this information was given to him by his son who had said that they were sentenced to death on April 14 after secret proceedings of the court. Father of the accused said that he would appeal to higher court. He claimed that higher officials made his son and other officials as scapegoat. As per daily newspaper Dawn, navy officials refused to make any comment. According Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (May 25), lawyer of the accused of the Navy dockyard Aalam Rahim said that military court did not hear the case properly. It said that these five accused were sentenced to death for joining hands with ISIS and kept in different cells in jail. The lawyer said that people sentenced to death are year old. He said that the real culprits were the intelligence officials of Pakistan navy. Navy officers instructed jail officials that they must not give any information about them to anyone. The government wants that they must not be able to appeal in the higher court within the stipulated time. Father of an accused Hamad Khan said that he was unaware that for what his son has been sentenced. He was a junior officer. He sent several letters to navy chief complaining about it that their cases were not properly herd. He said that he did not have any information that where his son is. He has just this much information that a military court sentenced death to five navel officers. III Existence of Rohingya Muslims in danger Roznama Rashtriya Sahara on May 19 claimed that after the parliamentary elections in Myanmar last year hope was generated after NLD came to power but that had bitten the dust for the decisions taken by the government. The new government requested the US embassy not to use the world Rohingya in future. In the riots between Budhdhist and Muslims that took place in 2012, around 200 people were killed and thousands rendered homeless. Over 1 lakh Rohingya Muslims are living in camps. A Muslim called Ayub Khan said that the situation was deteriorating by the day after riots. Their business was destroyed and they had been banned to travel and for government jobs. They hoped that India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

after NLD coming to power they would get justice but the new government was following the path of the old government. They rejected demand of 10 lakh Rohingya. Rohingya Muslims were saying that they were living in Myanmar from centuries while the government was saying that they were originally Bangladeshi and had come to Myanmar during the British regime. The new government was not providing them nationality and in the last election they were not even allowed to vote. As per the new law, Rohingya Muslims would have to accept being a Bengali if they want to register Rohingya they would not be given citizenship if they are not ready to give up their identity. But they are not ready to accept themselves as Bangladeshi. IV Land of Sikhs occupied in Pakistan According to Akhbar Mashriq (May 20), the government campaign to stop forceful occupation of land surrounding the birthplace of Guru Nanak at Nankana Sahib took a violent turn. The office of the organisation looking after the properties of minorities was attacked by a terrorist crowd and set the office on fire. There was a fierce fight between the police and the demonstrators in which several people got injured. Police was called in to Nankana Sahib from several other cities due to situation turning explosive. The city life is standstill. This is to recall that properties of non-muslims are being looked after by waqf board after the partition as non-muslims came to India. Chief of this organisation Sadik al Farooq told reporters in Lahore that his organisation looked after 19,000 properties but they were captured by mafia across the country. He alleged that an MP occupied a big chunk of land in Nankana Sahib. This MP was associated with Jamiat Ahle Hadith. He said that when attempt was made to remove illegal occupation, supporters of this MP protested against it and the waqf office was set on fire. On the other hand a residence of Nankana Sahib Abdul Shakoor alleged that waqf board officials destroyed several buildings and misbehaved with women. This deteriorated the situation. V 61 people killed in Afghanistan According to Inquilab (May 16), around 61 people were killed in Afghanistan in Taliban attack in 24 hours that included 52 police officials. Encounter between the Army and Taliban was continuing. According to news agencies, 30 policemen were killed in attacks near police check post close to Halmand and training camps while 22 policemen were killed at other places in an encounter with India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

Taliban. According to a spokesperson of Afghan army, Taliban attacked police check posts and Army training camps and kept them hostage. According to spokesperson of Taliban Allah Mujahid, dozens of police officials were killed on the attack of training camp. They denounced the fact that only three persons were killed. He said that the government deliberately not providing the correct data. VI Right to beat wife by husband demanded in Pakistan According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (May 27), Pakistan Council for Islamic Ideology recommended the government that wives opposing husband's decision or not accepting the decision, husband must be given the right to beat wives. This is a constitutional organisation whose members are Islamic thinkers and scholars. The Pakistan government is working on to make laws on women security. Council for Islamic Ideology gave this suggestion for this law only. This organisation is supposed to give advises to Parliament on Islamic laws and accepting or rejecting them depends on Parliament. Council of maulana said that such women who don't follow orders of their husbands and done un-islamic cloths or mentally torture their husbands, in such cases husbands should be given right to beat such women. This is to recall that this organisation has already declared women protection law as un-islamic. It is pertinent to mention here that as per Islamic law, if any woman refuses to follow instruction of her husband or refuses physical relations then as per Islam he has the right to beat her with canes. As per Hadith, husband has the right that he should beat his wife so much that she must have mark in her body. According to Dainik Inquilab (May 28), Pakistani women vehemently opposed to the demand made by Muslim scholars from the government. Human right activists Farzani Bania said that looking at the recommendation this council must be scrapped as this was bringing disrepute to the country. 25 OTHERS I Muslims occupying waqf properties Akhbar Mashriq in a write up on May 22 by Ajim Akhtar complained that Muslim religious leaders are occupying waqf properties. There is a big number of Maulana and Mufti occupying waqf property. Jheel Pyaoo mosque at Bahadur Shah Zafar Road has huge land. Waqf board appointed a Muslim leader as manager of this mosque. There has been illegal construction on the mosque land by embezzlement of crores. Waqf board could have developed it for welfare of Muslim but nothing has been done and land worth crores of rupees has been occupied. The question is that who is responsible for such misappropriation. Could not there have been an educational institution for Muslims. He said that when he was secretary to waqf board then imam of Fatehpuri mosque complained in newspapers that condition of mosques was deteriorating. After that a huge amount has been sanctioned to repair it but when workers reached to repair mosque they were not allowed to enter. Later on when Archeological Survey of India tried to get the mosque repaired, they too were not allowed to enter the mosque. Later on illegal construction were made there. When the Congress came to power illegal occupancy was made legal. He complained that a Bharatiya Janata Party leader put pressure on him to rent out some property to a woman. This woman was called in for a meeting but she did not come. II Campaign to bring Dalits and Muslims on one platform According to Inquilab (May 25), Jamiat Ulama e Hind's Mehmood Madani intensified campaign to bring Dalits and Muslims to one platform before UP elections. Madani said that time has come when poor, backward and deprived of the country must be brought to one platform. He said that condition of Muslims is deteriorating by the day. He criticized to the fact that Muslims discuss their problem but neglect problems of Dalits and tribals. He said that Jamiat Ulama was planning to organize rally to bring Muslims, Dalits and tribals. He said that government interference into Islamic madarsa won't be tolerated at any cost because madarsas are fortresses of Islam. He alleged that most of the women want to follow Sharia but media deliberately neglects them. In this convention Kari Mohammad Osman Mansoor was elected president of Jamiat for the fourth time. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,

III Closing Bangladesh border opposed Chief Minister of Assam announced sealing Bangladesh border which was being opposed by Urdu newspapers. Sahafat on May 23 reported that in the name of illegal infiltrators the BJP wanted to run a campaign against Muslims. Now with the BJP coming to power in Assam, it started action against Muslims. The newspaper said that if in the name of infiltrators people of Assam were driven out, then it would have serious repercussion. President of Assam Gan Parishad Anil Vohra made it clear that all Bangladeshi infiltrators would be driven out. The newspaper said that party of Badruddin Azmal would oppose it. IV Using Patanjali products is a sin for Muslims? According to Akhbar Mashriq (May 19), Ali Hajrat of Bareli Dargah issued a fatwa in which it was instructed that Muslims must not to use products made by Patanjali. It is said in the fatwa that in Patanjali products cow urine was used therefore using them was sinful as per Islam. Islam considers urine as impure. This is to recall that a person called Bakhtiyar Khan asked a fatwa from Central Darul Uloom Aftah on Patanjali products. He asked, is it as per Islam to use Patanjali products? On this Mufti Mohammad Haqeem and Muzaffar Hussain Qadri and Mufti Mohammad al Rizvi told in a fatwa that Patanjali or any other company if uses cow urine in their products they should not be used. Whosoever uses such products they will not be accepted as Muslims? Please send your suggestions, information, news and views from Urdu newspapers to the foundation. Editorial Board would try to accommodate them as per our editorial policy in forthcoming issues. India Policy Foundation June 1-15, 2016 June 16-30,
