Summary Summary Chasm between Shia and Sunni sect of Islam is widening in the country by the day. Recently demonstrations took place in several cities of the country against Sunni rulers of Saudi Arabia. The demonstrators demanded that the Wahabi rulers of Saudi Arabia who had demolished historical cemetery of the time of Prophet Mohammad Saheb in Medina around 52 years ago should be rebuilt. They alleged that the cemeteries that were demolished had graveyards of the only daughter Hajrat Fatima, her relatives and associates. This is to recall that Wahabi sect is sternly against permanent cemeteries and permanent rooms. It calls it anti-islamic. Shia Muslims have been demanding rebuilding of these cemeteries but Sunni rulers are not listening to them. Truth is that growing tension between Saudi Arab and Iran is impacting Muslims in India. Recently the Centre s decision of banning sell and purchase of animals for slaughtering was opposed by Muslims. The Supreme Court quashed the government order on a petition filed by a butcher. This decision was welcomed by the Urdu newspaper. Controversial Muslim journalist Aziz Burney gives up Muslim politics. Burney was running a campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh Parivar from a very long time. It was said to be the hands of anti-rss people behind this campaign. This journalist had written a book on Mumbai terror attack in which a false claim was made that the RSS was behind the attack. When an NGO challenged the matter in the court, he apologised immediately. He joined a Muslim Political outfit called Peace Party of India just before the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh but his party was badly battered. None of the candidates from his party could even save their deposits. President of his party is in jail on rape charges and Aziz Burney decided to give up politics. Newspapers are discussing waqf properties from very long. Waqf Boards is the biggest land holding class in India after Railways and Defence, which has lakhs of acres of land in its possession. But they are illegally occupied by Muslims themselves. Condition of Muslims in Delhi is such that they are not getting place for corpus burial and they have to give thousands of rupees as bribe for it. Controversial Left worker Shabnam Hashmi is baffled these days because the Narendra Modi government stopped the charity that was being given to her organization. So she is planning to start a nation-wide campaign against the RSS with the help of Left parties. She is also trying to take Dalit and Muslim organizations along in this move. India Policy Foundation July,

National I Shias demonstrate against Saudi Arab Govt. According to Inquilab (July 4), Shia Muslims in India resorted to violent protest against the Saudi Arabia government demanding rebuilding of Jannatul Baqi cemetery that was demolished 52 years ago. This is to recall that around 92 years ago when Wahabi ruling family of Al Saud came to power in Saudi Arabia, they got all historical cemeteries around Medina destroyed. This cemetery had graves of the relatives of the Prophet, followers and even his daughter which was destroyed by Saudi Arabia. Shias have been opposing this in different countries for the past 25 years. They have alleged that the Wahabi government was destroying ancient cemeteries in the name of polytheism and worshiping graves. Recently All-India Shia-Sunni Front organized a protest at the Jantar Mantar in which Muslims from across the country participated. Effigy of the Saudi Arabia government was burnt on the occasion. National president of the front said that as long as the Saudi Arabia government does not accepts its mistake and rebuild these cemeteries the protest would continue. Speaking on the occasion Maulana Syed Haidar Jalal Naqvi said that Saudi Arabia and Israel had a secret alliance. He said that the global Muslim fraternity must boycott the royal family of Saudi Arabia because they were spreading Islamic terrorism across the world. Saukat Bharati of Allahabad said that on one hand the Saudi Arabia government is distributing Quran free of cost. However, the same Quran says that Muslims must not keep relations with Jews and Christians. According to another news report, published in the same newspaper, similar demonstration took place in Lucknow. According to the newspaper, the Saudi ruling family, being the follower of the Wahabi sect of Islam demolished mausoleums of relatives and daughter of the Prophet. Leading the demonstrators, Maulana Yasoob Abbas said that on the one hand the Saudi Arab government claims to be the supporter of Rasool and Quran while on the other hand it was destroying every evidence of the daughter of the same prophet. He said that if the Saudi Arabia government cannot rebuild these sacred graves then Shias across the world must be allowed to do so. Maulana said that the Arab government is exploiting Shias therefore the Modi government must put pressure on the Saudi government to stop all this. He said that in May 1925 these historical cemeteries were demolished. These graveyards were started by the Prophet himself. This graveyard has graves of several such martyrs who died in ancient wars. This is the same graveyard where the Prophet's only son, Hajrat Ibrahim, was buried. This graveyard has the graves of six Shia Imams as well. Graves destroyed by the Saudi Arabia government includes that of the wives of the Prophet, his daughter, uncle of the Prophet and some other important associates. India Policy Foundation July,

A news report published in the same newspaper said corresponding demonstration took place in Varanasi as well. Demonstrators were in black cloths and shouting slogans, Wake up Saud, rebuild mausoleum of Fatima. Maulana Wasim Rizvi and other leaders announced as long as these holy cemeteries are not built again the protest would continue. Similar demonstration was organized in Mubarakpur and demonstrators burnt effigy of the ruler of Saudi Arabia. According to another news report, Majlish Wahidat ul Musalmin organized demonstration against the Saudi Arabia government in Karachi. Similar demonstrations took place in Lahore, Jhang and other cities of Pakistan. This is to recall that such kind of demonstration against demolishing cemeteries takes place in Pakistan every year. According to Akhbar Mashriq (July 5), Muslims in Aligarh under the leadership of Dr. Razi Amrohi demonstrated in black cloths and appealed to Muslims across the world that this day be observed as black day. II Aziz Burney gives up politics According to Inquilab (July 7), journalist Aziz Burney took retirement from politics and resigned from the post of general secretary of Peace Party of India. He said that a conspiracy was hatched to keep him away from journalism in which his own people were involved. So he joined Peace Party and he was made the general secretary as well as in-charge of Uttarakhand. He accepted that he failed to fulfill his responsibility. In a letter addressed to the president of Peace Party, Aziz Burney said since the time of the announcement of UP elections I did not attend any meeting of Peace Party. He said that he failed to fulfill his objective of joining Peace Party. He said that he was going to start social work and politics could become a hurdle in it. He claimed that he was going to start a campaign called Swatantrata Sanrakshan. Comment: Aziz Burney belongs to Bulandshahr and suddenly appeared on the horizon of journalism. He suddenly became group editor of Rashtriya Sahara newspaper. After this he unleashed a flurry of campaigns against the BJP and the RSS at the behest of the Congress. Interesting thing was that he wrote a book in which RSS was held responsible for Mumbai terror attack. This book was launched by Digvijay Singh at several places and was published in several different languages as well. When a worker filed a defamation case against him in a Navi Mumbai court he immediately apologised and his apology letter was published in Hindi Rashtriya Sahara but Urdu Sahara did not deem it necessary to publish the same. The most interesting thing was that two days before the Mumbai terror attack took place he was in Karachi. Campaign unleashed by Aziz Burney against the RSS got exposed because a terrorist Ajmal Kasab in the attack was caught alive and he was given death sentence by the court. Looking at his activities he was removed from the post of editor-in-chief of the Rashtriya Sahara Urdu. He tried his best to get a ticket from congress for Lok Sabha elections but he was not obliged. So he announced publishing a new newspaper called Azizulhind and it was claimed that the news paper would be published both in India Policy Foundation July,

Hindi and English. Urdu newspaper could not sustain very long and was closed. Aziz Burney announced to start an e-paper but even that did not turn out to be a very long venture. He jumped into politics just before UP elections and Muslim political party made him their general secretary. This political party came out in a big way during the UP election campaign and spent crores of rupees in advertisements. Newspapers were astonished as they had no idea from where this money was coming to Peace Party because neither Dr. Ayoob was in such a strong position nor Aziz Burney had crores of rupees to spend. Peace Party was washed out in these elections and each of its candidate had to forfeit their deposit. National president of Peace Party is in jail on charges of raping a woman and now Aziz Burney has resigned from Peace Party. III Ban on sale of animals for slaughtering cancelled According to Akhbar Mashriq (July 12), the Supreme Court cancelled the ban on sale and purchase of animal for slaughtering. The Central government told the Supreme Court bench headed by chief justice that it would bring a new law in three month s time. But till then the order passed by the Madras High Court would be applicable in the whole country. The decision of the Supreme Court is being considered as a big jolt to the Centre. This is to recall that the Environment Ministry banned the sale and purchase of animals for slaughter in the markets on June 26. The Supreme Court said that the instructions issued by the Madras High Court would be applicable across the country for the time being. Justice Kabir instructed the petitioner that a review petition could be filed after reading the notification issued by the government. Mohammad Faim Quireshi who hails from Hyderabad had filed a petition asking the Centre s decision as unconstitutional and violates the rights of cattle trader. According to policy analysts this decision has adversely affected the muslim cattle traders the most. The government now wants to ban killing of cow, oxen, buffalo and camel. According to the government no animal would be send to the market unless a certificate was received that it was not being sent for slaughtering. According to another news report, Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah said that not only Muslims but Hindus too eat beef. He said that any instruction banning beef issued by the Centre would not be implemented by the Karnataka government. In Eid Milan organized by the Karnataka Congress, the CM said that every citizen had the freedom to eat whatever he/she wants to eat. He requested people of the state that they must not get carried away by communal and anti-social elements and maintain peace in the state. He said that he does not eat beef but if he wishes to eat it then who are you to stop me? Akhbar Mashriq on July 14 alleged that Centre sometimes takes decision without thinking after which it has to eat the humble pie every time. Last year in the month of May a notification was issued in which selling and purchasing animals for slaughter was banned. However, it was claimed that its purpose main purpose was freedom of the cattles from pain but lakhs of people were influenced by this decision. So the entire country is divided into two parts. It was being opposed in eastern India and southern India even the BJP-ruled states are opposing it. The government has indicated its intentions towards amending the provisions of this notification after protests from India Policy Foundation July,

different quarters on this matter. Madras High Court has stayed the implementation of this notification and now the Supreme Court has also stayed it. Strange thing is that even the BJP leaders are opposing it. The newspaper complained that foreigners are investing and corporate people are active but employment is not being created therefore the government and the Judiciary must look into the matter that their decision does not increase unemployment. The same newspaper published a report attributing to the Popular Front of India which has welcomed the Supreme Court s decision of staying the ban on sale of animals. The front demanded that the Centre and the state governments must ban gundaism in the name of cow protection. Siyasat in its editorial on July 13 welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court and expressed hope that now lakhs of people would not be rendered jobless due to this decision. The decision taken by the Centre was opposed by several state governments. India exports beef to the tune of $4billion and this decision is victory of people. Activities of the cow protection vigilante has increased eversince the BJP came to power. Recently a young man was stabbed in Haryana in the train. The Madras High Court has already stayed the decision of the Supreme Court. This decision was harming farmers too because they used to get huge profit by selling old animals which were useless for farming. Around 34 crore animals are born in the country every year and if this decision was implemented there would be an increase of 27 crore livestock every year and just for their upkeep five lakh acres of land would be required. IV Attack on Amarnath pilgrims criticized According to news paper report from Akhbar Mashriq (July 12), from Najibabad Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad organized a demonstration in which attack on Amarnath pilgrimage was denounced. According to another news report from Lucknow, Shia leader Kalbe Jawad criticized this attack and cancelled Eid Milan programme and said that such attacks are instituted to flare up communal tensions. President of the Jamiat Ulama e Hind Arshad Madani also criticized this attack and said that this attack was a failure on the pat of the Centre and the state government because they knew that terrorists might attack pilgrims still the government did not do anything for their security. Madani said that the bus attacked by terrorist was not registered and it was not given any security. Maulana also questioned the attacks on pilgrims only during the reign of the BJP government. Mentioning arrest of Sandeep Sharma, he said that Muslims are not behind terrorist attacks. As per another news report, this attack was criticized by film stars that tough action was required against terrorists that included Shah Rukh Khan, Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher and Akshay Kumar. According to Inquilab (July 13), chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said that the way people of the state were criticizing attack on Amarnath pilgrims makes it pretty clear that there was communal harmony in the state. This is the reason that people actively donated blood for the injured people. This is the glory of Kashmiriat. She said that this Holy shrine was discovered by Muslims. India Policy Foundation July,

According to Inquilab (July 13), as per news reports published in Aligarh the attack on Amarnath pilgrims was criticized by students of Aligarh Muslim University who organized a candle march. Students demanded impartial enquiry into the matter and culprits must be given death sentence. Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (13 July), in its editorial criticized attack on Amarnath pilgrims and said that people involved in such acts want to destroy communal unity of the country. All political parties including separatists criticized this attack. Even Not in My Name criticized this incidence. The newspaper praised Salim for his heroic action of saving pilgrims by putting his own life in danger. Akhbar Mashriq in its editorial on July 13 criticized attack on Amarnath pilgrimage and expressed concern over the fact that Hurriat leaders also criticized it. The newspaper also demanded that bus driver should be conferred with some national level award. The newspaper also reported that there were no major attacks on the pilgrims after the year Now, since the government is taking action against terrorists so they are targeting pilgrims as revenge. The newspaper appealed to separatists that they must denounce activities of terrorists. The newspaper appealed to all Kashmiri leaders that they must cooperate to normalize the situation. The newspaper also wrote that the way the Muslims are treated in India has its repercussions in Kashmir and sometimes the repercussions are pretty ugly. Hamara Samaj in its editorial on July 12 criticized attack on Amarnath pilgrimage and expressed concern on the fact that terrorist activities was increasing abruptly Jammu and Kashmir. It appears that such acts are being carried out to instigate communal riots in India. The newspaper asked that when intelligence agencies had already provided inputs about possibility of attacks then for what reasons strict security measures were not taken up by the governments. The newspaper praised tweet of Rajnath Singh and requested security agencies that it must keep a close watch on people instigating terrorist activities. Hindustan Express in its editorial on July 12 wrote that on one hand the government was claiming tough security arrangements for the pilgrims even then the terrorists were successful in their game plan. He demanded a high level inquiry into the matter. Siyasat in its editorial on July 12 wrote that the government is entirely responsible for this attack. The government has blamed Laskar e Toiba as responsible for this attack but on the contrary the spokes person of the terrorist group, Abdulla Ghaznavi said that it has got nothing to do with this attack. Besides that separatist Kashmiri leader criticized this attack. A Gujarati bus driver Salim put his life in danger to save pilgrims. This man has been selected for an award. There is a need to foil the designs of communal forces within the country so that the terrorist plots can be foiled. Every community of the country has always been united when it comes to face the enemy of the nation. The need of the hour is to identify the attackers and give them the most severe punishment. V Campaign against the RSS According to Inquilab (July 14), Left Political parties started a nation-wide campaign against the RSS. The command of this campaign is taken over by Shabnam Hashmi. The campaign has been India Policy Foundation July,

started from the social media. The objective of this campaign was to check the growing influence of the RSS and expose its schemes. This campaign has got the support of ANHAD NGO. This campaign will be held across the country between July 20 and July 22. Posters will be displayed across the country against the RSS. According to Inquilab, in one of the posters, a Dalit woman will be shown inside and outside a house. Objective of this campaign is to expose the RSS and BJP scheme for organizing dining programmes at the houses of Dalits. BJP president, Amit Shah, has also had food at several Dalit houses several times. Shabnam Hashmi told reporters that the way hatred was being spread across the country by Sangh Parivar if that was not dealt with properly the country will break down into pieces. The question is not about being a Hindu or a Muslim but the question is about spreading hatred. People of the RSS from Maharashtra are being instigated against people of UP and Bihar. Now the question is being raised now about why people of Bihar are living in Delhi. Attacks are being made on the basis of language which is very dangerous. Communal forces are taking benefit of the fact that people are unaware of each other. Muslims are being targeted especially because they have already been declared traitors. Similarly there was a need to form communication channels with Dalits. According to a news report published in Siyasat on July 12, Left Parties have decided to launch a campaign against the saffron family across the country in the name of Bharat Bachao. President of All India Student Federation Syed Wali Ullah Qadri said that this campaign would take assistance of two crore students and this would go to every nook and cranny of the country. He said that it was necessary to expose anti-national activities of the RSS for saving culture and brotherhood in the country. The Modi government has repudiated all the promises it made to the people of this country during the run up to the elections. Unemployment and inflation is increasing in the country. The government is spreading falsehood to hide its failure. Whatever is happening in the country is dangerous for democracy and National Unity. This campaign will be joined by the mother of the martyred student, Rohit Vemula, of Hyderabad University, leader from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and mother of the young boy Junaid killed by cow vigilante. He said that it was necessary for all secular parties to join hands for saving democracy else the country would be divided into pieces. Qadri said that Muslims and Dalits would be made a special part of this campaign. VI Graveyards are being sold in Delhi Akhbar Mashriq on July 17 published a write up by Masroor al Hasan Siddiqui in which it alleged that Muslims in Delhi were not getting space in cemeteries to burry bodies of their relatives and they have to bribe to get space. The author alleged that there was rampant corruption in the Waqf Boards of the country. The author said that there were 31 Waqf Boards across the country. Union minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi accepted in the Waqf Council meeting that 85 per cent of Waqf land was under illegal occupation. The author alleged that all governments used waqf for their political benefits. Waqf has the third largest land holding after railways and defence. As per Sachar Committee report there are 4.90 lakh registered waqf having around six India Policy Foundation July,

lakh acres of land. Sachar Committee said in its report that if Waqf properties are properly used then the condition of Muslims could be improved. Not only members of the waqf boards but imam of mosques are also looting waqf properties. Maharashtra Waqf Board is the best place to monitor the real picture of corruption in waqf board. A plot worth Rs 500 crore has been given to promoter of Reliance Group Mukesh Ambani just for Rs 21 crore where Ambani raised his 27 storied mansion, Antalia. Karnataka Waqf Board had rented out a land worth Rs 500 crore to a hotel for Rs 5000 while rent of a room of this hotel is Rs 20,000. When Islamic scholar Prof Akhtarul Wasey was one of the managers of Ajmer Sharief mausoleum, then keeping all rules aside Dargah land was given to one of his favorites for building hotel. Around 77 per cent waqf properties in Delhi have illegal occupation. CGO Complex, Nehru Stadium, Delhi High Court, Delhi Public School and Oberoy Hotel all are built on waqf property. Entire record of Waqf Board was missing so it cannot even prove its ownership over the land in the court of law. Some of the Muslim leaders have given waqf property on lease for Re 1 per month. Jamiat Ulama occupied waqf land at ITO for which it does not pay a single penny. A 25 bigha land of cemetery was given to a builder by president of Waqf Board for 25 paise per yard. The extreme point of this corruption is that evn the land for grave is also being sold. Muslims are being asked to shell out Thirty to Fifty Thousand rupees for a grave at several cemeteries. This rate is of Mehandiya graveyard. Condition of old mosques and mausoleum are deteriorating by the day. There is illegal occupation over 685 waqf properties while 123 are disputed with cases pending in the court. The author demanded that the Centre government should issue notification of the law made in The author demanded that Rent Control Act should be implemented. A Muslim University should be built on waqf property. According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (June 30), the government has started a campaign against the illegal occupants on waqf properties. Two thousand cases were registered in three years. This information was given by Minority welfare minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in the waqf council meeting. He claimed that the Modi government would try to free waqf properties from illegal occupation and to develop them for social, economic and educational purposes. He said that a board is being constituted under the chairmanship of a retired judge of Supreme Court to resolve the issue related to waqf board and its properties. Similar boards will be constituted in different states as well. He said that as per information there are waqf properties in the country and this might further go up. According to Hamara Samaj (June 30), Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that though some violent incidents took place against minorities in the country still there was no environment of fear in the country. He said that the states of Rajasthan, Haryana and Jharkhand had some such incidences. The government was taking tough action against the culprits. He said that information collected so far tell us that Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal have big illegal occupation on waqf properties. The government was committed to vacate these illegal occupations. India Policy Foundation July,

World I Tendency of terrorism increasing in universities of Pakistan According to Hamara Samaj (July 14), analysts in the Sindh province of Pakistan expressed concern over growing terrorism in universities and further said that the propensity of students towards joining terrorism was growing in universities instead of madarsas. According to the newspaper, in a meeting of the high-level committee vice chancellors and directors also participated. Discussing the student of Liyaqat Medical University, Jamshera Nureen Lugari SSP Munir Sheikh said that when this girl was moving closure to terrorism then neither her parents took cognizance of it nor anyone else. Nureen used to take bus from home for university but used to get down half way to go somewhere else. University officials knew it. But they did not inform guardians of this girl. He said that over 60 to 70 percent girls are donning burkha and getting secret terror training. But the university was not paying any heed towards it. He said that when he made a complaint to the university administration about it then they had said how could someone be stopped from wearing burkha. DG police said that some people were deliberately propagating terrorism in university campuses. Terrorism has increased with the growing use of hijab and burkha. Registrar of Liyaqat Medical College said that he cannot keep a watch on every student. He said that his university has 80 per cent women student and the university cannot raise objection over wearing hijab and burkha. SSP Raja Umar Khitab said that earlier there was a propensity among madarsa students and they were involved in jihad in Afghanistan and Waziristan. But the new generation coming in is educated in public school and organizations like ISIS are getting popular among the higher section of the society. The new generation terrorists are using computer and internet and they plan attack and jihad from there only. Now terrorists are not students of madarsas who participate in suicide bombing. Referring to the terrorist who was arrested at Gafforagote Syed Aziz he said that when young men fail in their love life they take up the path of terrorism. A well educated student failed in love life had gone to Saudi Arabia to perform Umra and there he came into contact with some Al Qaida leaders. They brainwashed him that unless there was an emergence of Islamic Caliphate, Islam won t be able to get its right place in the world. Higher police officers accepted that Islamic State was getting popular among upper class of the society and propensity to participate in jihad was increasing. Some of the teachers of the university have been regularly giving funds to Al Qaida but they have been arrested. Officers from the intelligence department informed the meeting that a computer science teacher used to propagate jihad in his class and used to distribute books supporting jihad. But the India Policy Foundation July,

university administration did not take any notice of it. A highly educated student suddenly disappeared from the university and he took training in Waziristan at Al Qaida camps. It was also taken up in the meeting that such students who are giving up terrorist activities should they be allowed to continue with their education or if they should be allowed to take admission. Intelligence department accepted that they are keeping a tab on students and if there is any doubt about any student they were being counseled. It was also discussed in the meeting that terrorist activity was increasing among students by the day and the government has failed to curb it. II Campaign against Shias in Pakistan Sahafat on July 2 alleged that mischievous elements in Pakistan are running a campaign on social media against the Shia community and recently a Pakistani newspaper made a derogatory comment on YouTube. The newspaper criticized that the answer to the derogatory remark was given by a Shia scholar. The newspaper said that Sunnies in Pakistan formed a group which is running a campaign against Shias in the Islamic world. The newspaper wrote that Shah Abdul Aziz who was associated with Wahabies had written a book against Shias. The reply to this book was given by Mir Hamid Hussain. Still mischievous elements are distributing Urdu translation of anti-shia book of Shah Abdul Aziz in several parts of the country. This was causing tension in the country. Recently Maulana Akabar Khan Nazibabadi s book Tahrik e Islam came into market which was presented with lots of distortion. This book was published by a Saharanpur-based publisher and in this book there were derogatory comments on imams of Shia community. The newspaper requested from the Shia community that they must look for solutions to the social media campaign against Shia community. III Journalist arrested in Pakistan According to Akhbar Mashriq (July 1), a young journalist Zafarullah Achkarai has been arrested for supporting the demand of an independent Baluchistan. He was arrested from his residence in Quetta just a day before Eid. He was the chief reporter of Dainik Kudrat Quetta and son of the owner of the newspaper. As per the information he had put objectionable posts on social media. Central Intelligence Department is interrogating him. President of Union of journalists Baloochistan Khalil Ahmed said that policemen in plain clothes were sent to arrest him. A meeting was held in Quetta Press Club to denounce his arrest in which it was said that the way he was arrested was wrong. It was against the law. The police forcefully entered into his house and misbehaved with his family members. They were treated like terrorists. India Policy Foundation July,

IV Iranian nationals house arrested in Tajikistan According to Akhbar Mashriq (July 15), on the instructions of the Tajikistan government Iranian embassy closed all its business and cultural offices. Besides that Tajik officials banned sale of all books related to Iranian leader Khomaini and his associates. This is to recall that the Tajikistan government closed down organizations like Imam Khomaini Assistance Committee, Iranian Cultural Centre, Trade Centre, Irani Hilal and hospital run with the Iranian assistance. Other news organizations alleged that there was hand of Tajikistan in cancellation of Iran s membership in Sanghai Cooperation Organization. V Fifty died in a blast in Pakistan According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (June 25), blasts in the Eid market claimed at least 50 lives and dozens got injured. The blast took place when people were busy with Eid shopping. When people rushed to help injured people the second blast took place. Prime Minister of Pakistan and Home Minister criticized these attacks. As per Army, terrorists from across the border are responsible for this blast. The blast in Quetta just a day before claimed 13 lives and injured 50 people while some unknown assailant attacked the police killing four police personnel. This attack took place in Chourangi near Habib Bank. The attackers were riding a motorcycle. VI Ban on Muslims in China According to Inquilab (July 14), the Chinese government imposed several restriction in the Muslim majority area of China. Xinxiang area has turned into a jail. News agency APF said that Xinxiang is such a province of China that shares border with Pakistan. There is a ban on keeping beard in Xinxiang and Muslims can t offer namaj in mosques. Offering namaj during the month of Ramdan was banned in the outer area of Kashgar. The government had set up police posts in the outer area of Kashgar to check Muslims from outside coming to the area. A Chinese Algore Muslim businessman said that this place was not safe for Islam. The Chinese government deployed huge number of police forces in Xinxiang province and new police posts are being opened at several places. The entire city is flooded with posters saying that anyone offering namaj would be severely punished. There is another instruction that no one who is less than 50 years of age would be allowed to keep beards. India Policy Foundation July,

VII US visa for Afghan students According to Inquilab (July 14), the US government has given visa to the robotic team of Afghan students who were earlier denied visa. These students would participate in robotic competition in the US next month. The competition called First Global is being represented by 157 countries. According to the US embassy, these Afghan girls were given visa by personal interference of the US President. Now these girls will be able to stay in the US for 20 days. VIII Attack in Belgium According to Sahafat (June 22), a fidayeen attack was stopped at the railway station in the capital city Brussels of Belgium by the police and the attacker was killed by a bullet. He was a citizen of Morocco but due to the explosion the railway station was engulfed in fire. 17 Western Asia I Problem of Qatar gets worst According to Inquilab (June 29), dispute among Qatar, Saudi Arab and other six countries was getting complicated by the day. Twelve demands made by the Saudi Arabia government from Qatar were refused. Foreign minister of Saudi Arabia made it clear that they would neither make any amendment in it nor would there be any discussion over it. Now it depends on Qatar to stop helping terrorism. Saudi Arab threatened that it would alongwith its friend countries would impose economic sanctions and Qatar would be thrown out of the Gulf Cooperation Council. On the other hand foreign minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammad Bin Abdul Rahmaan said that he would not buckle under anyone s pressure and also pointed out that the refusal of Saudi Arab to talk was against international laws and statutes. According to Inquilab (July 8), solutions on the problem of Qatar has not been reached so far because both the parties involved are not ready to relent. Qatar refused demand of six Arabic nations and due to this there are chances of deepening of the crisis. Spokesperson of the US foreign ministry said that such a situation has come up as the crisis remained unresolved. This is to recall that Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirate, Bahrain, Egypt, Maldives and Maldevia announced snapping diplomatic ties with Qatar. They alleged Qatar for inciting terrorism. These nations made a 13-point demand from Qatar on June 23 and said that unless these demands are met relations with Qatar won t be normal. Foreign ministers of the Arabic nations were arguing that Qatar was not taking the matter seriously. They clarified through a joint statement that economic and legal action must be initiated against Qatar. Foreign minister of Qatar Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sani criticized the threat of the Arabic nations. He said that the country won t be pressurized under any threat. This is to recall that total population of Qatar is 27 lakh and it has huge oil and gas reserve. Qatar imports food item from foreign countries. Arabian countries have closed land route for Qatar and it is importing food item through sea or air route. This is to recall that during the US Presidential visit to Saudi Arabia on May 20 deal for arms and ammunition was finalised between both the countries this deal had intensified the differences between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. According to the newspaper, USA was behind this tension because it wants to destroy peace among Islamic nations like this. According to Dainik Munsif (June 11), differences between Arabic nations and Qatar are very old. This was started in 2014 when Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates withdrew their envoys from Qatar. They alleged that Qatar was interfering into their internal matter. These countries alleged that the security treaty that was signed among these countries was being violated by Qatar. Qatar expressed astonishment over this decision but it did not withdraw its envoys from these countries. Objections over news reports that were being published by Al Jazira Channel was also raised by the Arabic Nations. They alleged that this channel was interfering into the internal matter of Arabic nations. The second reason is that Qatar is the biggest supporter of Muslim Brotherhood. The Saudi Arab government declared Islamic jihadi organisation Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization. Analysts say that Muslim Brotherhood was against the monarchy of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arab also declared two more organizations Al Nasira India Policy Foundation July,

and ISIS as terrorist organization. Saudi Arabia announced that such Saudi Arabian citizens who are participating in jihadi activities must be brought back to the country. Any Saudi Arabian citizen found involved in Jihadi activities would be punished. This is to recall that at present hundreds of Saudi Arabian citizens are involved in jihadi activities in the foreign countries. Ruler of Saudi Arabia issued a decree in which it was said that those Saudi citizens who are participating in war in Syria and other places, they will be given punishment of 20 years in jail on their return to the country. This to recall that thousands of Saudi citizens were participating in war against Syrian president Bishar al Assad and earlier such jihadies who had gone to participate in jihadi activities in Bosnia and Afghanistan revolted against royal family of Saudi Arabia on their return to the country. Now, they have become a headache for the government. The same newspaper published another new report in which it was claimed that Saudi Arab removed Qatar from Islamic Military Coalition. Interesting thing is that Pakistan is not helping Saudi Arabia in this regard and spokesperson of foreign ministry of Pakistan said, We will keep our relations with Qatar intact. Iran was openly supporting Qatar and Turkey was also helping. Turkey announced continuing supply of the food stuff to Qatar in the wake of food crisis due to the sanctions imposed by the Arabic nations. It will help the country in the wake of crisis. According to the newspaper, this decision would widen differences between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The problem with the Pakistan government is that there are lakhs of Pakistani working in Saudi Arabia which provides remittance to the tune of millions of foreign currency to Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif had good relations with Saudi Arab and Qatar when Parvez Musharraf had removed him from the post of PM, Sharif took asylum in Saudi Arabia with family. According to Pakistani newspaper Sharif has huge investment in Qatar. Now Iran was trying to better its relations with Russia and China and this was the reason Pakistan is indifferent to this dispute. According to Dainik Siyasat (June 25), ban imposed on Qatar by the Arabic nations did not impact people of Qatar because Turkey, Morocco and Jordan are providing it uninterrupted supply of food items and Iran was also providing food material in huge quantity to Qatar. Of course there has been some price rise. There are at present seven lakh Indian citizens working in Qatar and the country wants to strengthen its relations with India. The US president Donald Trump has announced maintaining good and cordial relations with Qatar. According to Dainik Siyasat (July 17), the US President said that it would continue to have friendly relations with Qatar and would not shift its military and air base to any other country from Qatar. This military base has 10 thousand US soldiers. This is to recall that the US President earlier supported six Arabic nations snapping ties with Qatar now it has changed its attitude. The US has already reached a deal to supply F-15 fighter aircraft to Qatar which would cost around $15 billion. II Books of Jihadi maulana banned in Saudi Arabia According to Hindustan Express (June 13), Saudi Arabia completely banned books of the author associated with Muslim Brotherhood Yusuf al Qazavi. This Egyptian origin scholar is living in Qatar at present. Education minister of Saudi Arabia Ahmed bin Mohammad Al Isha said that all the books of Yusuf Al Qazavi have been removed from the curriculum and his books have been banned in the country. Publication of his books has been banned and they cannot be imported as well. A notice has been sent to all schools and universities instructing them to implement this ban seriously. Education India Policy Foundation July,

minister said that the Saudi Arab government would not let any terrorist to step in the country and terrorism would be crushed sternly. III Missile attack on terrorist headquarters in Syria According to Inquilab (June 20), missile attack on terrorist headquarters in Syria has been confirmed in response to terrorist attack on Pasdaran e Inquilab. It is said in the statement that six missiles fired from Iran had hit the target. This is to recall that in Islamic State s attack 18 people were killed and 52 others were injured in Tehran the capital city of Iran. Interesting thing was that the attack was conducted with the permission of Syria and in this attack a big number of terrorists got killed that included their commander Abu Shahid. IV Iran breaks all records of hanging According to Akhbar Mashriq (July 15), all old records of hanging by Iran government has been broken. Last month one person was hanged after every four hour. Last month 56 people were hanged in Tehran however this was not confirmed by the government. As per the government sources only seven people have been hanged. According to People's Right Organisation, 31 out of 56 people hanged by the Iran government were accused of smuggling of drugs. They were associated with Baloochistan and other backward area. Chief of the Human Right Organisation Mahmood Amiri said, We want to tell the world what was happening in Iran. He said that there are still 5000 people languishing in the jail waiting to be hanged. V Chinese students deported According to Siyasat (July 7), the Egyptian government arrested dozens of Chinese students studying Islamic education in Al Jahira University. This is to recall that this is the biggest university for Islamic education. As per newspapers, 70 Chinese students have been arrested so far and deported to their country. According to human right organization, the Egyptian government has kept many Chinese students in jail to deport them. A Chinese Muslim student Abdullah said that Algore Muslim students were arrested in Nasar city near Cairo. They were alleged to be participating in anti-muslim activities. They accepted that more than 100 Chinese students were arrested by the Egypt government from this university. VI 35 Christian killed in Egypt According to Akhbar Mashriq (May 27), a bus carrying Christians was attacked by terrorists and indiscriminately fired at, in which 35 people got killed on the spot and several other got injured. It is said that Qutvi Christian were going to Church by riding this bus but on way the bus was attacked by two men in a car. As per the government sources the attack has the backing of terrorists belonging to Islamic State. India Policy Foundation July,

c Others I Allegation of Mecca mosque being neglected According to Siyasat (June 16), though the Telangana government announced spending Rs 60 crore for the repair of Mecca mosque in Hyderabad even then its condition is getting worst by the day. The state government announced installing 43 CCTV cameras in the mosque and some days ago Deputy Chief Minister of Telengana Mohammad Mahmood Ali inaugurated these cameras but even then these cameras have not been functional till now. Managers of Mecca mosque said that there was shortage of staff to look after the mosque. There are several graves of Asif Zahi family here, besides that there are several madarsas and museums. Trust of the mosque demanded that repairing work of this mosque must be started immediately because buildings in its premises are in dilapidated condition. Thousands of visitors come to see it every day. Comment: Mecca mosque is the pride of Hyderabad. This was built by the Royal Sultan Mohammad Quli Qutub Shah and he laid its foundation stone on his own. The expansion of the mosque was definitely done by Aurangzeb. Its main hall is 180 feet long and 220 feet wide and 75 feet high. Around 10 thousand people can offer namaj there and its entire weight is on 15 mehrabs. In the premises of this mosque there are mausoleums of several nizams and their relatives. There was a room in the mosque where a hair of the Prophet of Islam is kept. Besides, there are several other ancient remains kept which are worshiped. Charminar is situated very close to it. II Controversy over citizenship of Muslim women of Assam Dawat in its special editorial on May 28 complained that citizenship of lakhs of Muslims in Assam is in danger but this issue is not being discussed in Indian media. According to the newspaper, the Supreme Court has asked for an answer from the central government for not accepting the certificate provided to 48 lakh married women by the panchayat as identity cards. Assam High Court refused to accept these certificates as identity cards issued by panchayats. Recently the High Court had ruled in its decision that such people who don t have any other proof for Indian citizenship would have to give up Indian citizenship. The court refused to accept certificate issued by the panchayat as citizenship certificate. This is to recall that the matter of citizenship in Assam is a very serious issue since past 38 years. In the name of foreigners, crores of Indian citizens were being harassed and dozens of riots took place in which thousands of people were killed. Poor Muslims are killed by labelling them as Bangladeshi. No one can forget the massacre that had India Policy Foundation July,
