3 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Something special occurs when someone you love calls you by name. It can bring both joy and a feeling security, just knowing that person is near. Jesus refers to Himself as a Good Shepherd who call his own sheep by name and leads them out to pasture. In turn He also says, the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice (John 10:4). It is not surprising that this image of Jesus as a shepherd is one of the oldest found among the gathering places of the early Christians, the catacombs. While few of us live in a setting where shepherds with their sheep are a familiar sight, nevertheless the image continues to communicate that Jesus Christ is someone whom we can follow with confidence, trust, and the assurance that He will watch over us and bring us safely home. He is truly the guardian of [our] souls (1 Peter 2:25). So we must continue to listen to His voice and do our very best to follow Him. Saint Peter s call to repentance in Acts is an ongoing even for us. What do you think of when you hear Jesus promise to bring us abundant life? MILITARY COMMEMORATIVE MASS Our Parish is planning our Commemorative Mass for our Armed Forces on Sunday, June 4 at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. This special Mass is to honor all military people from our parish; those presently serving in the Armed Forces as well as those deceased members of the military. If you would like the name of a deceased parish member mentioned at this Mass who served in the military, please submit their name to the Rectory before May 30, If you have submitted your loved one s name and have heard it announced in previous years, there is no need to submit their name again. If you have a family member currently serving in the military and would like to add their picture to our bulletin board in the vestibule, please send a photo (military photo if possible) along with their name, rank and branch of service to Holy Rosary Church c/o Military Bulletin Board. We are told to be patient when suffering for doing what is good, keeping in mind Christ suffered for all of us and He did not threaten. The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want (Responsorial Psalm). We must follow the Good Shepherd because Jesus is the one who can save us. We must listen to the Word of God and trust in Him. Jesus wants us to be a family, one that reflects the Divine Family. May the example of the Holy Family guide all families and may our homes foster peace, love and be faith-based. Today is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations and so we pray: PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd. You know each of us and you call us by name to serve in faith. Help us respond generously to your voice. Give courage and guidance to those you call to the priesthood and the diaconate, to religious life and lay ministry, so they may respond wholeheartedly and serve devotedly. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Bring Flowers of the Rarest The month of May is traditionally dedicated to Mary in many cultures. The wreath of flowers with which Mary is crowned highlights a special connection with spring, new life and Mary s beauty. Red, yellow and white roses are placed at the base of the statue of Mary to formally show our love for her. We are reminded of Mary s virtues which we are to imitate. The red roses signify her spirit of sacrifice, the yellow roses represents penance and conversion and the white roses signify her spirit of prayer. The word rosary means crown of roses (from the Latin word rosarium or rose garden) a prayer of peace. When we look at the Sanctuary we see Mary and Jesus. Thank you Mary for bringing Jesus to us, for loving us and wanting to lead us to Jesus. Respect Life Committee ANNUAL GOLDEN WEDDING JUBILEE MASS AT SAINT PATRICK S CATHEDRAL Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2017 are invited to attend the Annual Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, Sunday, June 11th, at 2:00pm.
