Jesus confirms Sirach s wisdom, Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7). Conduct your affairs with humility (Sirach 3:17). Humility: we re all alike and special, for we re children of God. Jesus confirms that wisdom, too: Do not recline at table in the place of honor. Take the lowest place (Luke 14:8, 10). In fact, When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite friends, relatives, wealthy neighbors. Invite the poor, crippled, lame, blind, physically or figuratively, society s most vulnerable and marginalized, who cannot repay you (see 14:12-14). Jesus seems to be telling us to prepare for eternity with God s chosen by becoming their friend here and now. Mercy is measured not by our delight in welcoming those we like most or who can repay us best, but by sincerely embracing those we like least, who cannot repay us at all. Don t forget to mark your calendar for Stewardship, Sunday September 25, Helping Hands Helping Hands Ministry is a group of loving and caring men and women from St. Julie s who offer their time and assistance to those in need of help.this ministry began over 20 years ago under the guidance of parishioner Sally Kutcher. What began as a handful of volunteers has grown to over 170 volunteers who answer the calls of service to parishioners who need help or assistance. Most of us stopped reading aloud for pleasure when our children put away the Little Golden Books and the various Goodnight books. Believe it or not, people of all ages enjoy being read to. This is particularly true of seniors and those unable to read effectively on their own due to vision problems, etc. Experience has also shown that people in nursing homes and in other adult care environments can t wait to be read to. A number of our parishioners are already routinely reading to others, and they too, are enjoying it. Children will sing at Mass once per month at 11:00 am. Adult Choir The Adult Choir sings and leads the assembly with traditional. contemporary, and spiritualstyles of music for the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass, Holy Week, and other special liturgies throughout the year. No prior choral experience is required just a willingness to learn music. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m in the Church. Pool safety is about more than swimming. Swimming is a fun way to have some fun and beat the heat during the summer. Parents should teach their children about swimming safety, including how to identify and handle uncomfortable situations. Although you may be watching closely to make sure your kids are safe in the water, don t forget about when they re walking around, sitting out by the pool, using the restrooms or out of sight. Teach your children what to do when they feel uncomfortable at the pool, and let them know it is okay to walk away and find a parent or trusted adult at any time. 6 Register Sunday, September 11 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Parish Center Play & Pray (3-5 year olds) Sunday mornings during the 9:30 Mass. This program includes music, crafts, gospel stories, and of course prayer! Parents must enroll their child to secure a space in the program. Preschool and Kindergarten children will be grouped together. There is one adult Catechist and two peers teaching and caring for your child. Tuition for the year is $75.00 per child. Program begins October 2nd. First Communion Year I & II Preparation for Sacraments is a two-year process and begins in first grade but if your child is older, we have a program in place for them as well. The process begins with basic faith formation in the first year. Year Two begins with basic faith formation as well as specific preparation for the Sacraments. Tuition for Year I is $75.00 & Year II is $ Contact the Faith Formation Office at x1 for program details. Elementary 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Sunday Family Catechesis 9:30 am to 10:45 am Our motto is Faith, Family & Fun! This program is designed to give parents the tools needed to raise their children as disciples and encouraging them to stay connected to their parish community. Families gather ONE Sunday a month from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. Each time we meet, a topic is presented with the focus on growing closer to Christ through the Gospel and discipleship as well as stewardship opportunities. Sessions begin in October. Tuition is $75.00 per family. Elementary 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Third and fourth Wednesdays \6:30pm to 8pm. Classes begin on October 19. Tuition is $75.00 per child. Rite of Christian Initiation for Children Older Sacrament For ages, 9 through 14 who would like to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Parents and children attend weekly classes and monthly intergenerational classes on designated Sundays. Jr. High 6th through 8th Grade JHYM meets on the 3rd and 4th Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. 7 Adult Confirmation The Adult Confirmation Preparation classes are for parishioners who are out of high school and who have been baptized and received First Communion, but who have yet to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation strengthens the graces we receive in Baptism and fills us with an even greater share of the Holy Spirit. This Sacrament completes our initiation into the Catholic Church. This year the classes for Adult Confirmation will be held at St. Jude the Apostle parish in Westlake beginning this October 2 nd. All sessions are Sunday afternoons from 1:30-3:00 p.m in the parish hall.
