The setting for Jesus royal portrait is the cross. From this throne, the crucified crown prince welcomes by executive pardon the kingdom of mercy s first citizen, a fellow criminal. The Good Thief requests neither deliverance nor salvation, or even forgiveness: Remember me when... (Luke 23:42). Today you will be with me, King Jesus promises, in paradise. (23:43). Paradise, even for non-believers, is an image of creation contentedly in harmony with self, fellow creatures, and Creator. Today, we good thieves beg Jesus to remember us. We promise to remember that, although Jesus kingdom will be fulfilled only when Jesus returns, that kingdom begins today in the paradise that will flower from this Jubilee Year of Mercy. We disciples, having been embraced unconditionally and undeservedly by Jesus mercy, must now go forth to embrace all others, unconditionally, with that same unfailing mercy. QUESTION OF THE WEEK Adult: Following the example of Jesus, what is the best way to exercise your authority over others? Youth: How do you show responsible leadership? NEXT SUNDAY S READINGS First Reading -- All the peoples shall stream toward the LORD S house (Isaiah 2:1-5). Psalm -- Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord (Psalm 122). Second Reading -- It is the hour to cast off the dark and clothe ourselves in the light (Romans 13:11-14). Gospel -- Stay awake! Be prepared! 5 Saint Julie s News CONGRATULATIONS to Mary Ellen Davis, Christen Manak and Kristen Melia who were honored by Archbishop Jose Gomez yesterday at the cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at a Mass for outstanding service by young adults in ministry! Mary Ellen is the director of our Play and Pray ministry for young children on Sunday mornings. Christen is our parish organist, First Communion coordinator and organizer of Sunday at the Park for young families. Kristen is our Older Kids program coordinator and the driving force behind The Radicals, our Young Adult Ministry. Terrific job ladies! Going to Laughlin St. Julie s Travel Club will be heading out for a fun-filled excursion to Riverside Hotel Casino on February 15th, 16th, and 17th. Price for Single Occupancy, $ per person.
