2 Bulletin for May 2017 The Month dedicated to Our Lady May, 2017 Dear Parish Family, In the month of May, we honor our Blessed Mother. We begin our celebration on May 5 th with a procession and rosary at our Grotto in honor of life. Bring your families and gather with us at 5:30 PM in prayer, as we will process around the church asking for our Blessed Mother s protection over our families. We want to congratulate all the children who will be celebrating their First Holy Communions. I want to thank all of our Religious Education and St. Francis School teachers who have helped prepare the children for this special day. We would also like to announce that Father Athanasius (Aton) will be ordinated a priest on May 27 th and will be celebrating his first mass at St. Francis Parish on Sunday, May 28 th at 2:00PM. All are welcome. Also, a special thank you to Big Mike s Ragin BBBQ, Mike Ariey, for his generosity and great food at our Annual Sport s Banquet. A special thank you to Susan Harrison Reed for chairing this year s BBQ, to Fred Allison, Fred s BBQ Factory, for the dinner and the entire team who helped make the fundraiser a great success. 3 St. Francis Parish News & Announcements A FEW NOTES FROM THE MUSIC MINISTRY Easter is a time of new life, new beginnings and of course, Resurrection. Even the Easter egg represents a new spiritual life in Christ with all the possibilities given to us as a result of Jesus death and resurrection. The challenges and treasures that Christ offers goes far beyond the jelly beans and chocolate, it is the gift of Faith and the promise of eternal life. Since on this Easter Sunday we celebrate new life and resurrection, we invite you to ask yourself if you are ready to consider responding to the invitation of a new life, your own resurrection. We have often heard the phrase, Music is singing twice, but it goes on to say, Singing is for the one who loves. Music is a profound sign of God s love for us and of our love for God. If you enjoy music by singing in the shower or with the radio, or even if someone has told you that you have a good voice, come share your talent and sing for the One who created the music. Also if you play an instrument, dust it off and let go of anything that is holding you back. Contact me and we will explore your musical growth and find the choir that is just right for you. 4 St. Francis Ministry News & Updates From the office of Religious Education Thank you Fr. Rudy and Fr. Anton for celebrating the Risen Christ with our students. Please pray for the 130 students who will be receiving their First Holy Communion May 13 th. As we end this year we thank all our volunteer teachers for their time and love their shared with these children. We especially thank Elise Mathias who is retiring after many years of service in our Parish, including as RE teacher. God Bless you as you move closer to your family. We also thank Millie Medrano for working with us this year. We will miss her and wish her the best as she continues her education and teaching in Orange County. We are excited introduce Ignite student ministry for our grades who have received their Sacraments. This youth group will be held in the new CME center at the school. There will be no fee and they will be offered on the same night as RE classes for the convenience of our families. Music, games and faith sharing in a fun atmosphere. Youth Ministry We d like to thank all of those who donated to the Confirmation retreat in March. We couldn t have done it without the generosity and support of this parish community! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Join the Maker s Fun Factory this summer and discover how we were created by God and built for a purpose. This program is available to all youth K-5. Registration will open May 1st. Forms can be found in the front office. VOLUNTEERS: We re looking for volunteers for our Vacation Bible School and for the community summer camp. DONATIONS NEEDED: We are in need of individual and business donors to sponsor snacks for Vacation Bible School, and for purchasing snacks and supplies for the community summer camp. Please consider being one of our sponsors and bring the light of Christ to our youth! Open registration will be begin the first weekend in May after all Masses. Please continue to pray for our programs! FROM THE YOUTH SACRAMENT COORDINATOR Registrations for youth sacraments will begin May 6th - June 2017 This is a 2 year program! Msgr. Craig will be officiating. Reminder this will not be a business meeting. All women of the parish are welcome to join us for prayer and friendship, please bring sack lunch, desserts will be provided. A reminder to all members Membership dues should be paid at this time, please contact Sandi Souza for membership questions at The Altar Guild ministry is dedicated to the cleaning and maintenance of the altars, sacristy, vestments, and altar linens, along with anything else needed in the performance of the Liturgy. The Altar Guild also serves and gives support at funerals and receptions. It is our purpose to unite members in a spiritual bond dedicated to the maintenance and care of all things related to the Altar, Liturgy, and for the Glorification of God. We all have spiritual gifts and together we build the Body of Christ. Anyone interested in joining or needing more information about the St. Francis Women's Altar Guild, please stop by the Parish office or contact Roylene See at or Cindy Armstrong at Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick Eucharistic Ministers make Eucharist available and provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals who are hospitalized, residents of nursing homes, or homebound. Our pastoral team of volunteers loves every opportunity to minister this way.
