4 * THE NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. CONFESSION OF SIN Blessed Lord Jesus, Before Your cross I kneel and see the heinousness of my sin, my iniquity that caused You to be made a curse, the evil that excites the severity of Divine wrath. Show me the enormity of my guilt by the crown of thorns, the pierced hands and feet, the bruised body, the dying cries. Your blood is the blood of incarnate God, its worth infinite, its value beyond all thought. Infinite must be the evil and guilt that demands such a price. Sin is my malady, my monster, my foe, my viper, born in my birth, alive in my life, strong in my character, dominating my faculties, following me as a shadow, intermingling with my every thought, my chain that holds me captive in the empire of my soul. Sinner that I am, why should the sun give me light, the air supply breath, the earth bear my tread, its fruits nourish me, its creatures subserve my ends? Yet Your compassions yearn over me, Your heart hastens to my rescue, Your love endured my curse, Your mercy bore my deserved stripes. 5 OLD TESTAMENT READING 1 Kings 14:21-31 Rehoboam Reigns in Judah 21 Now Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonite. 22 And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins that they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built for themselves high places and pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 24 and there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. Spring Break Causes Change to Wednesday Nights Our first and third Wednesday nights are proving to be a great way to connect with others in our church. For details about the new program of home groups and children s catechism classes, please refer to Pastor Jim s letter on the website (PPC Community > Documents > Miscellaneous). Because of Spring Break, the third Wednesday meeting for March has been changed to the fourth Wednesday, March 24. Information/New Members' Class Those wishing to find out more about the church or join Providence are invited to four new members' gatherings: March 27, April 3, April 17, and May 1. The first meeting will be at the Angehr household ( nd Street, ). We are seeking a host home for the remainder of the classes. Because food will be served, RSVP by the Wednesday before. If you miss a meeting but are interested in exploring membership, talk to Pastor Jim about attending a make-up class. Arts & Culture Night, Friday, April 1 Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend Providence s second Arts & Culture Night of the spring semester, Don't Make Me Use My Opera Voice! Operatic Culture in La Boheme, led by Matthew and Allison Smith. It will be Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of JD and Michelle Harder (39 South Lakeshore Drive, Ransom Canyon). The evening s focus will be opera, opera appreciation, and viewing this beautiful and misunderstood art form through a Christ-centered lens. Theological Study Group: Pastor Jim is leading a theological discussion group, which is studying Herman Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatics. The meetings occur every other week on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Classroom 7 at the church building, and lasts for roughly an hour and a half. Contact Pastor Jim for additional details. Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at Texas Tech RUF is busy with the spring semester. Visit for more information. Steve Percifield is the campus minister. Men s Activities All men are invited to participate in two weekly activities. The Men s Bible Study meets at 7:00 a.m. every Tuesday at Rudy s Barbeque, 4930 South Loop 289. The Men s Prayer Breakfast is on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. at Market Street Café, 50 th Street and Indiana Avenue. All men, aged 12 and up, are welcome to the monthly 2 nd Wednesday Men s Group, on the second Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at the Lubbock Boys & Girls Club, th Street. 10 Sermon Notes Prayers of Meditation For Those Not Participating in Communion Prayer for Those Searching for Truth Lord Jesus, You claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what You claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and show me the reality of who You are. Amen. Prayer of Belief Heavenly Father, I admit that I am more sinful than I ever before believed, but, through Your Son Jesus, I can be more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank You that He lived the life I should have lived, and paid the debt and punishment I deserved. Receive me now for His sake. I turn from my sins and receive Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Amen. Prayer for Those Struggling with Sin Lord Jesus, help me to look to You as the fulfillment of all my needs, and to turn from every false satisfaction to feed on You, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to You, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. Amen. Prayer of Commitment Lord Jesus, You have called us to follow You in a life of committed discipleship in Your church. Grant that I may take the necessary steps to be one with Your people, and live in the fullness of Your Spirit. Amen.
