2 Welcome Service of Divine Worship We are so glad you are here! FOR YOUR FAMILY A NOTE FROM OUR SENIOR PASTOR We re all at different stages in our relationship with God. He may be the priority of your life, it may have been a while since you connected with him, or you may be exploring these things for the first time. At McLean Presbyterian, we celebrate God s grace: Jesus came to give us life today and for eternity. This offer is made to us all; whatever your background, we re delighted you re here! We d love to connect with you this morning. Fill out the Hello! card located in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate when it passes by later in the services, then stop by our Welcome Center after the service. When you leave the Sanctuary, head to your right; it s near the elevator. Enjoy some coffee, meet new people, and learn how our church can become your home. May this morning be good for your soul! In his grace, JAMES FORSYTH, SENIOR PASTOR P.S. You re invited to join our pastors for lunch at one of our homes. Come get to know our families and other newcomers. Details and dates are at mcleanpres.org. While you worship, your children will be loved and taught in an engaging environment. Classrooms are located on the lower floor; the nursing mothers room is on the left as you exit the Sanctuary. For more information, visit the Welcome Desk in our Children s Ministry wing located downstairs. Nursery is offered for ages 0-3 years at all service times. During the sermon, Children s Church is offered for ages 4 years - 1st grade at the 8:30am, 11:30am, and 5:15pm services. Club 23 is offered for grades 2 and 3 approximately every other week at 5:15pm. Sunday School is offered for ages 4 years - 6th grade at 8:30am and 4 years - 12th grade at 10am. Sunday nights include special communities for grades Leading in worship this morning We rest our hearts in God s presence as we prepare for worship We celebrate God s presence with us and ask for his Spirit to work powerfully among us God invites us to worship him in spirit and in truth APRIL 30, :30AM, 10:00AM, 11:30AM Rev. James Forsyth, Senior Pastor Mr. Nathan Newman, Pastoral Intern Mr. Kyle Dickerson, Pastoral Intern PRELUDE Worship Team WELCOME & INVOCATION Rev. James Forsyth CALL TO WORSHIP PSALM 147:1-6 Leader: Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. People: The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. Leader: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. People: He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Leader: Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. People: The Lord lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground. 1
3 We sing praises to God for who he is and for what he has done SONGS OF PRAISE ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS NAME All hail the power of Jesus name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all; Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all. Ye chosen seed of Israel s race, ye ransomed from the fall, Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all; Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all. Let ev ry kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball, To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all; To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all. O that with yonder sacred throng we at his feet may fall! We ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all; We ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord, and crown him Lord, And crown him Lord of all. We acknowledge our need of forgiveness and renewal through the cleansing blood of Jesus CONFESSION OF SIN Almighty Father, Help us to realize what it cost you to call us friend. Deepen our awareness of your son s sacrifice through his birth in a manger, his agony in the garden, his suffering on the cross, and his resurrection from the tomb. You have called us to love in this same way, yet we often only love when it is convenient, and we only love the people who are easy to love. Humble us with your grace, and enable us to love others as you have loved us. Words by E. Perronet, 1779; Music: CORONATION by O. Holden, 1793; Arr. by J. Ward; 2003 James Ward Music; CCLI License # WONDERFUL, MERCIFUL SAVIOR Wonderful, merciful Savior, precious Redeemer and Friend; Who would have thought that a Lamb could rescue the souls of men? Oh, you rescue the souls of men. God reminds us of his promise of forgiveness in Christ ASSURANCE OF PARDON 1 JOHN 4:9-11 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Counselor, Comforter, Keeper, Spirit we long to embrace; You offer hope when our hearts have hopelessly lost the way, Oh, we hopelessly lost the way. Chorus: You are the One that we praise, you are the One we adore. You give the healing and grace our hearts always hunger for, Oh, our hearts always hunger for. We enjoy and extend the peace of the gospel to one another GIVING OF THE PEACE Leader: Because Christ has called us friends, we now have peace with God and with one another. May the peace of Christ be with you! People: And also with you! Almighty, infinite Father, faithfully loving your own; Here in our weakness you find us, falling before your throne, Oh, we re falling before your throne. Chorus 2x CCLI Song #106879; Words and Music by D. Rodgers and E. Wyse; Arr. by J.B. Spacht; 1989 Word Music, LLC, Dayspring Music, LLC; CCLI License # We celebrate God s work in our community and world TESTIMONY OF GOD S GRACE Josh Deye, Community Group Leader 2 3
4 We give thanks to God and bring our needs to him As recipients of his grace, we give back to God a portion of what is already his PASTORAL PRAYER Ruling Elder Bruce Young You can join us in praying for our flock this morning; the Flock Notes are on page 8 in your worship guide. If you would like to submit a prayer request, fill out the Hello! card located in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate. If you would like someone to pray with you after the service, men and women from our leadership will be available in the front of the sanctuary. PRESENTATION OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS At this time, please fill out the Keeping Connected book and pass it down your pew and back. Prayer request cards can be placed in the offering plate. OFFERTORY LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE Chancel Choir (8:30 & 10:00 services) You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before all people, Let your light shine in all the earth, That they might see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. You are the salt of the earth, but if salt loses its flavor, It is good for nothing. You are the light of the world, a city built on a hill cannot be hidden. A Lamp cannot be covered, but shines for all to see. Let your light shine before all people, Let your light shine in all the earth, That they might see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. You are the light of the world. By C. Courtney; Beckenhorst Press 1993 God speaks to us through the reading of his word JESUS MY GREAT HIGH PRIEST Worship Team (11:30 service) Jesus, my great High Priest offered his blood and died. My guilty conscience seeks no sacrifice beside. His pow rful blood did once atone, and now it pleads before the throne; And now it pleads before the throne. To this dear Surety s hand will I commit my cause; He answers and fulfills his Father s broken laws. Behold my soul at freedom set; my Surety paid the dreadful debt; My Surety paid the dreadful debt. Chorus: Now I approach the throne, and I have confidence For Jesus, my great High Priest offered his blood and died Now I approach the throne, and I have confidence For Jesus, my great High Priest offered his blood and died for me. My Advocate appears for my defense on high; The Father bows his ears and lays his thunder by. Not all that hell or sin can say shall turn his heart, his love, away Shall turn his heart, his love, away. Chorus Should all the hosts of death and pow rs of hell unknown Put their most dreadful forms of rage and mischief on, I shall be safe, for Christ displays his conqu ring pow r and guardian grace; His conqu ring pow r and guardian grace. Chorus Words by I. Watts; Music & Chorus by K. Ward; 2005 Kirk Ward; CCLI License # SCRIPTURE READING 1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-26 (PEW BIBLE P. 959) Leader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God! 4 5
5 We ready our hearts to receive the preaching of God s word During the following song, children ages 4 years through 1st grade are dismissed for Children s Church, which meets downstairs in Room 11 8:30am and 11:30am services only. SONG OF PREPARATION BLESSED BE YOUR NAME Blessed be your name in the land that is plentiful, Where your streams of abundance flow, blessed be your name. Blessed be your name when I m found in the desert place, Though I walk through the wilderness, blessed be your name. Every blessing you pour out I ll turn back to praise. When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say, Chorus: Blessed be the name of the Lord! Blessed be your name! Blessed be the name of the Lord! Blessed be your glorious name! Blessed be your name when the sun s shining down on me. When the world s all as it should be, blessed be your name. Blessed be your name on the road marked with suffering. Though there s pain in the offering, blessed be your name. Every blessing you pour out I ll turn back to praise. When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say, Chorus 2x Bridge: You give and take away. You give and take away. My heart will choose to say, Lord blessed be your name. (repeat) Chorus 2x We respond to God s word through song SONG OF SENDING IN CHRIST ALONE In Christ alone, my hope is found, he is my light, my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was satisfied. For every sin on him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground his body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave he rose again! And as he stands in victory, sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am his and he is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand; Till he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I ll stand. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand; Till he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I ll stand. CCLI Song # ; Words & Music by K. Getty & S.
