No such almug wood has come or been seen to this day. 13 And King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all that she desired, whatever she asked besides what was given her by the bounty of King Solomon. 8 January 5 Hot Luck Beginning in January, Providence will begin its new small group plan and structure. (Please see the November newsletter and/or the greeter table for all of the details plus the invitation list.) For our first scheduled meeting this Wednesday, January 5, however, instead of doing what will become our standard routine, all are encouraged to attend a kick-off pot luck dinner at the church building. Please arrive at 6:30 p.m. with a dish or dishes to share. As an added twist, and due to the cold weather of the season, we ask any so inclined to prepare an extremely spicy offering, as long as it is labeled as such. After we enjoy the meal and have a general conversation concerning this new initiative, we will break into the small groups, introduce each other, and discuss details such as food at the adult fellowships and directions to the host houses. Baby Shower for Baby Jack Collins All women of Providence are invited to a church-wide baby shower for Chelsea Collins this Saturday, January 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the home of Christie Mulkey, th Street. Sunday School All Sunday School classes will resume next Sunday, January 9. Adult Sunday School Jim and Steve will begin a new adult Sunday School class based upon the book You Can Change by Tim Chester. Jim and Steve would ask that those interested in coming to the class to purchase a copy of this book and to read ahead in it. (Please speak with Jim if you'd be interested in the book but aren't able to purchase it yourself.) John Smith will continue his adult class with a study on the book of Romans. Women s Monday Night Bible Study The Monday Night Women's Bible Study will resume on January 10. We begin a new book in the Gospel According to the Old Testament series: After God's Own Heart - The Gospel According to David. Community Groups Young Adults, Grad Students, and Young Professionals: A group meets every other Sunday evening for fellowship and prayer. Wednesday Night Home Groups and Children s Classes: On the first and third Wednesday nights during the spring and fall, we offer a program of home groups and children s catechism classes. Weekly Home Meeting: A group meets on Sunday afternoons at the Gring household. Contact Mark or Dana at for more details. Theological Study Group: Pastor Jim is leading a theological discussion group, which is studying Herman Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatics. The meetings occurs every other week on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Classroom 7 at the church building, and lasts for roughly an hour and a half. Contact Pastor Jim for additional details. Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at Texas Tech RUF has wrapped up the fall semester; please pray for the students are home for the holidays. Visit for more information. Steve Percifield is the campus minister. Men s Activities All men are invited to participate in two weekly activities. The Men s Bible Study meets at 7:00 a.m. every Tuesday at Rudy s Barbeque, 4930 South Loop 289. The Men s Prayer Breakfast is on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. at Market Street Café, 50 th Street and Indiana Avenue. All men, aged 12 and up, are welcome to the monthly 2 nd Wednesday Men s Group, on the second Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at the Lubbock Boys & Girls Club, th Street. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what You claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and show me the reality of who You are.
