4 CONFESSION OF SIN Dearest heavenly Father, Our time is not our own. You have made us all to live on the face of the earth, You have determined allotted periods and the boundaries of our dwelling place that we should seek you. We confess that we do not seek you, we forget that you have made us, we forget that you sustain us, we forget that you provide for us. We glory in ourselves, as we dwell in great and good cities we did not build, in houses full of all good things we did not fill, and as we drink and eat from wells we did not dig, and from vineyards we did not plant. You give us, sons and daughters, each day our daily bread and the bread of life in your Son. In the days you allow us, let us remember that Christ has come to make alive those that are dead, and that Christ will come to judge the living and the dead. And Araunah said to the king, May the Lord your God accept you. 24 But the king said to Araunah, No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 And David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord responded to the plea for the land, and the plague was averted from Israel.

6 SERMON Acts 13: The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him. 46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Prayers of Meditation For Those Not Participating in Communion Prayer for Those Searching for Truth Lord Jesus, You claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what You claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and show me the reality of who You are. Amen. Prayer of Belief Heavenly Father, I admit that I am more sinful than I ever before believed, but, through Your Son Jesus, I can be more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank You that He lived the life I should have lived, and paid the debt and punishment I deserved. Receive me now for His sake. I turn from my sins and receive Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Amen. Prayer for Those Struggling with Sin Lord Jesus, help me to look to You as the fulfillment of all my needs, and to turn from every false satisfaction to feed on You, the true and living bread. Pastor Jim on Vacation Pastor Jim will be on vacation and out of the pulpit on July 4. We are thankful to have John Smith preaching to us on that Sunday. Family Promise Opportunities to Serve Serving the Families: Please be in prayer as Providence serves as the host church with Family Promise is this week. Volunteers are still needed to spend some time with the Family Promise families on Saturday, July 3, and Sunday, July 4, any time from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for your family to really get to know these families and to have fun with the kids. New Family Promise Opportunity: Beginning on July 17 at 10:30 a.m., Providence will offer an every-other-week Bible study to the guests of the Family Promise program. This study will be a wonderful opportunity to build sustained relationships with families who are having difficulties, as well as to offer a venue where the gospel can be discussed explicitly and continually. For this new ministry, we are seeking to set up a rotation of teachers for the adults, teachers/players for younger children, and any who would like to bring a snack to the study (such as doughnuts), and/or participate in the study itself. More information and orientation will follow, but please contact Jim Angehr or Wendy Wilkerson if you would like to hear more details about this new initiative or volunteer in a specific capacity. - Page 13 - Church Directory Update Our church photo directory is a great way to put names and faces of people you may see only once a week together. 9 Regular Activities (Please refer to the newsletter for meeting dates.) Community Groups Young Adults, Grad Students, and Young Professionals A group meets every other Sunday evening for fellowship and prayer. Contact Chelsea Collins (chelseapillsbury@hotmail.com or ) or Nikki Sartin (niki.sartin@gmail.com). A Young Adult Bible Study is held on alternate Thursdays, 8:30 p.m., at the Sells home (corner of 19 th and Elgin, ). The study is led by Sean Cunningham, or raidergator@gmail.com. The study is currently on summer hiatus. Men s Activities All men are invited to participate in two weekly activities. The Men s Bible Study meets at 7:00 a.m. every Tuesday at Sugar Brown s, th Street. The Men s Prayer Breakfast is on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. at Market Street Café, 50 th Street and Indiana Avenue. All men, aged 12 and up, are welcome to the monthly 2 nd Wednesday Men s Group, on the second Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at the Lubbock Boys & Girls Club, th Street. It s a great time of Fellowship around the Word, as well as getting to know other men in Christ. For more information, contact Peter Griffith, 5griffiths@sptc.net. Home Meetings are open to everyone. Midweek Home Meetings: These are held on the first, third, and fifth Wednesdays of the month (except for holidays and vacations). One homemeeting is at the Dalton home (10208 Nashville) and the Sartin home ( th Street). On alternating nights, one house will host the adults and the other will serve as a place for young children to play (with adult supervision). The meeting is 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., with child drop off at 6:20 p.m. Contact Erik at erik.sartin@gmail.com for more details. The other homemeeting is at the Angehr home ( nd Street), from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Children will be in an adjacent room to the adults. (Jim@providencepca.org) for more information. Weekly Home Meeting: A group meets on Sunday afternoons at the Gring household. Contact Mark or Dana at for more details. Theological Study Group Pastor Jim is leading a theological discussion group, which is studying Herman Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatics. The meetings occurs every other week on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in Classroom 7 at the church building, and lasts for roughly an hour and a half. Contact Pastor Jim for additional details. Women s Ministry Bible Studies: Regular Bible study groups are open to all women. The Morning Group meets on Wednesdays. Every other Wednesday is a time for Bible/Book Study at 10:00 a.m. at the Angehr's home, nd Street. On alternating Wednesdays is a time of fellowship and lunch (start time 11:00 a.m., location varies). Childcare is provided. Contact Emily Angehr ( or emilyangehr@gmail.com) for more details. The Evening Group meets every other Monday at 7:00 p.m., at the home of Pam Coons, th Street. For more information, contact Brenda Hayes: hayes_bs@yahoo.com, (cell). The group is taking a summer break and plans to resume in the fall. A Mother/Daughter Bible Study for pre-teens meets at 7:00 p.m. every other Wednesday at the Griffith s home. Monthly Prayer: A monthly prayer session is held the last Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Adventist Center. Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at Texas Tech RUF is on summer break. Meal Ministry - Shared Joy, Shared Pain, Shared Meal: The women of Providence bring meals to people in the church when needed - especially births, deaths, hospitalizations, and illnesses.
