4 Munster, Indiana WHY DO I HAVE TO BE A REGISTERED PARISHIONER? People need to be registered, contributing parishioners at a church so that they could receive the sacraments. Many times a person will contact a church because he or she wishes to be married, have a child baptized, and any other number of reasons. Without being registered, permission is often denied. If anyone wishes to be married or have a child baptized at St. Thomas More, that person would have to be a parishioner for at least six months before beginning the process of preparation for marriage or before a child could be baptized. Why? Parishes regularly require registration and contribution to ensure that a person is fulfilling some of the most basic obligations of the faith. Attendance at Mass and contributing to the work of the church are basic requirements for Catholics. If you are an adult and are not yet registered on your own, we highly encourage you to register as an adult member of the parish so that you will be ready to receive sacraments as you need. 5 The Pastor s Page June 26, 2005 OUR PASTORAL ASSOCIATE S FAMILY, PART TWO Over the last two bulletins, I have introduced you to our new pastoral associate, Mr. Mark Kurowski, and his wife. Mark is a seminarian who, Rome has instructed the Diocese of Gary, may be ordained a Catholic priest upon the completion of formation at, and recommendation of, a major seminary. Mark will be doing his studies at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois. Mark is married to Sandi and they have five children. Last week we introduced you to Sandi. This week, we let you know about their children: Caleb Kurowski is a fifteen year old, who will be a sophomore this fall. At the time of this writing, Caleb was awaiting word from the Northwest Indiana Youth Symphony about his audition as a French Horn player. He is an accomplished pianist, enjoys political activism and reading. Hannah Kurowski is a thirteen year old who will be an eighth grader. She, too, is awaiting word of her audition as a prospective cellist with the Northwest Indiana Youth Symphony. In addition to music, she enjoys watching movies with her many friends, playing organized soccer and running. Luke Kurowski is a twelve year old entering seventh grade. He enjoys hanging out with his friends, playing game cube, football and Little League baseball. Peter Kurowski is a ten year old entering fourth grade. He enjoys organizing neighborhood baseball and basketball games, reading, and playing organized basketball, football and Little League baseball. Ruth Kurowski is a six year old entering first grade. She enjoys talking, talking and talking. Really, she enjoys talking, making crafts, writing books, playing with dolls and hanging out with her girlfriends. Many of you know how hard it is for people to move from community to community. As the Kurowski s plan their move from South Bend, Indiana to our area, I ask you to pray, please, that the transition for the Kurowski children goes as smoothly as it possibly can. After all, they are leaving many friends and successful school careers behind. P.S. If anyone has a home with 2300 square feet at a great price, please give us a call quick! IT IS TOO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE SO I WILL SAY FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK! Fr. Keith has been a very familiar face around St. Thomas More Parish for the length of two assignments here. He has done much in our parish as well as in our school. For me, too, Fr. Keith has been a two-time associate. He was first assigned to me as an associate pastor at St. Maria Goretti Church in Dyer. When we left that parish, I went to Queen of All Saints in Michigan City and he came to St. Thomas More. I was very grateful that he made the choice to come here as an associate two years ago when I was named your new pastor. It is with bittersweet emotion that I say farewell to him. He has been a good associate and has become a good friend to me. I know that he will do well at St. James the Less in Highland and I wish him well. God bless you as you begin your new assignment this week as a first time pastor, Fr. Keith. We will most certainly miss you! IT S BETTER IN LIVING COLOR There have been several people lately who have told me that they have stumbled upon the parish bulletins archived on our parish s web site: If you have a connection to the internet (cable internet, DSL, et cetera), you might want to check out the web site for all sorts of information, including the bulletins. The bulletins you receive each weekend are in black and white, but the color pictures to many of the articles are included in our website s archived bulletins. ON THE LIGHTER SIDE "Well, Ted, you're certainly coming up in the world. What's the idea of playing golf with not one, but two caddies!" "Oh, it was my wife's idea." "Your wife?" "Yeah," Ted replied. "She thought I should spend more time with the kids." Priests and deacons have served the Diocese of Gary for a number of years now. Others have served in the territory that is now the Diocese of Gary. Please pray for those men who have been called to God and whose anniversaries of death are this week: June 27: Rev. Julian I. Jercha (1987) June 29: Rev. Joseph S. Wonderly (1976) Rev. Theodore V. Fettig (1983) July 2: Deacon Arthur Weeks (1990) Rev. Dominic A. Mrena (1994) Msgr. F. Raymond Fowerbaugh (2004) Page 5

Those in charge of education can reasonably be expected to give young people instruction respectful of the truth, the qualities of the heart, and the moral and spiritual dignity of man. O R N E R The Bishops are considering asking Catholics to set aside a National Day of Prayer for Priestly Vocations for the future of the Church. Are you aware that here in our parish we ve had a Prayer Service at 1:00 pm every Tuesday for almost seven years for just that purpose and more recently, a First Friday evening Holy Hour for Priestly Vocations? They are very sparsely attended. Have you done your part? Or do you just stand back and complain and refuse to think that there can be a Priestless future? Hope for Families Struggling with Addiction If your loved one is struggling with addiction, our group, A HOPE REBORN, might have the answer to your prayers. We will meet on Saturday, July 2nd for the 8:30 am Mass at St. Thomas More Church. A meeting will follow in the Conference Room.
