5 What s Happening in Faith Formation Visit for the full class calendar. The Religious Education Office hours are Monday Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE CHILDREN WHO RECEIVED FIRST HOLY COMMUNION ON MAY 5! See their pictures in the church vestibule and look for children wearing badges that say I am a child of God. Please keep them in your prayers. CONGRATULATE OUR COMMUNICANTS Please encourage the children of the First Communion Class of 2018 with a kind word when you see them in church. They may be identified by their badges which they are asked to wear to church in the weeks after First Communion. Also, kindly remember them and their families in your prayers. We are grateful to all our parishioners who play a special role in the faith development of the children enrolled in St. Catherine s Faith Formation Program. PARENTING TIPS FROM THE MOTHER OF GOD God chose Mary to be the Mother of his Son, and gave her the preparation she needed. Jesus thought so highly of the mother she became that his dying thoughts were of her. During this month for mothers, we can take parenting tips from the Mother of God: May it be done to me according to your word (Luke 1:38). When faced with events beyond her understanding or control, Mary leaned on God. We, too, encounter situations we can t understand or control. That is when we can imitate Mary s trust in God. His plan for her worked out better than she could have dreamed. The same will be true for us. Do whatever he tells you (John 2:5). Mary knew when her Son was ready for his first public miracle so she gently nudged him when he hesitated. We, too, can show gentle confidence in our children s competence and encourage them to reveal their strengths when they hesitate to believe in themselves. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. (Luke 2:19). When the extraordinary happens, our first impulse is to tell someone. We want advice or attention. Yet, throughout life with her divine Son, Mary kept to herself and reflected in private moments. She sought only God s counsel because he knows best. Copyright 2018 Success Publishing & Media, LLC CLASSES ENDED WITH A FAITH FESTIVAL On Tuesday, April 24-4:00 to 5:00; Wednesday, April 25-4:00 to 5:00; Sunday, April 29-10:00 to 11:30, classes ended with a Faith Festival. Each class demonstrated one faith concept they learned this past year. It was held in the Church Hall. Classmates, parents and priests were invited. Some of the presentations were on 7 Sacraments, 10 Commandments, skits on Good Samaritan, Sower and the Seeds, and the Resurrection, songs, poems, prayers, words they learned. Sunday had a Bible Jeopardy game show between two grade 4 classes. Bravo for a job well done! "As the Father love me, so I also love you." Gospel Summary Jn 15: 9-17 A complete circle of love is found in this gospel reading. God loved the Son, Jesus. The Son loves his followers, and the followers show their love for God through their love for one another. It is clear in this reading that while we are part of this circle, we are only part of it because God chose us to be. Our response to God's choice for us is simply to show our love for God through the love we show to other human beings. Reflection for Parents The lives of parents are very full and busy. It's like juggling apples and catching each falling one to prevent it from splatting to the floor while tossing the others high in the air. But sometimes we need to think beyond the immediate demands of jobs, family, and home. When we widen the circle of those we include in our love, our children see firsthand how we live this gospel message. When we reach out to others, especially those who are difficult to love, they learn by our example what Jesus asks us to do in showing our love to one another just as he shows his love to us. Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Jesus asks us to love one another as he has loved us. It's easy to love those who love us, but what about the hard part of this command? How do we show love to the person that does not show us love? Think about who those people are in the lives of your family members. Allow each person to offer suggestions about how they will show Jesus' love to the person that is difficult for them to love. Discussion Starters 1. I recall a time when I was excluded from someone's love. I remember feeling The one person who always loves me and makes me feel welcome is I know that God loves me. Without thinking too highly of myself, I also love myself especially for the way... If you have any thoughts or questions about today s Gospel, about your faith, or simply to let me know you re reading these discussions, please me at deacon.howe@stcath.org. I d love to hear from you.
