We especially enjoyed sharing hospitality with you after Masses, and hearing your memories about Catholic Sisters you ve known over the years.

4 From the Desk of Deacon Andy Dear Friends, As we enter into Holy Week, we again are prepared to commemorate Jesus passion, death, and resurrection during the three most solemn days, known as the Triduum. This sacred commemoration consists of one ritual that happens over the period of three days. It begins with the Mass of the Lord s Supper on Thursday evening. On this evening, we commemorate the institution of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in which Jesus gives himself to us, just as he did in the sacrifice on Calvary. Also a sign of Christian love and mutual service is evident during this liturgy as the gesture of the washing of feet takes place, to remind us of our identity as a servant people. After communion that evening, the Blessed Sacrament is taken in solemn procession to an altar of repose and everyone is asked to leave in silence as the altar is stripped and laid bare in preparation for the second part of the Triduum ritual. On Good Friday afternoon, we enter the church and begin the liturgy in silence, just as we left the prior evening. We then listen to the account of Christ s Passion. Our prayers of intercession are solemn and more elaborate than usual. We take time to venerate the cross on which hung the Savior of the world. We then receive communion that was reserved from Thursday s Mass, and again we leave in silence. The third part of the Triduum is celebrated on Holy Saturday. The Easter Vigil begins in the dark before the new fire, the Light of Christ, is blessed --- and the Paschal Candle, lit from that new fire, leads everyone back into the church. The solemn hymn, Exultet (Rejoice) is proclaimed and we then listen to the story of our salvation in a series of scriptural readings. The baptismal water is blessed anew and those who have been preparing to enter into communion with the Church are baptized and confirmed, while all in the congregation renew their own baptismal promises. The Mass continues in a most solemn, yet festive, manner as we proclaim and celebrate with great joy the Resurrection of Our Lord, and the Mass ends fittingly with the singing of the solemn Alleluia. These three days of the Triduum are, without a doubt, the crowning point of the liturgical year. All are invited to join us in this great celebration... Meditation and prayer for Holy Week: How might you follow the example of Jesus in emptying yourself for the sake of someone else? Let us pray O Lord our Redeemer, may we not only remember your passion, death, and resurrection this Holy Week, but may we also enter, heart and soul, into your Passover from death to life. Let the example of your humility guide our faltering steps as we struggle to follow you from Jerusalem to the Upper Room, from agony to trial, from crucifixion to burial. Help us to empty ourselves of our own hurts and wants in order to become vessels of your compassion for others. Amen. Peace, Deacon Andy How to Turn in Your CRS Rice Bowl Donations Method 1: Count the money in your cardboard Rice Bowl and write out a check for that amount made out to Mother of Good Counsel. Write CRS Rice Bowl on the memo line and put the check into a plain white envelope labeled CRS Rice Bowl and put the envelope into the collection basket at any Liturgy during Holy Week. Method 2: Bring your full cardboard Rice Bowl to Church during Holy Week (especially Holy Thursday) and put it into the box labeled CRS Rice Bowl in the church vestibule. On Holy Thursday, the CRS Rice Bowl contributions will be brought up to the altar to be blessed Method 3: If you have not been using the cardboard rice bowl, then just write out a check for the amount that you want to give to indicate your commitment to help the poor and hungry of your community and of the World. Make the check out to Mother of Good Counsel with CRS Rice Bowl on the memo line and put it into a plain white envelope labeled CRS Rice Bowl and put it into the collection basket at any liturgy during Holy Week.
