Seeking to reflect the unconditional love and embrace of Christ, we strive to live out our baptismal call as disciples and enthusiastic witnesses to our faith.
2 The Pastor s Musings The Week at a Glance Dear Family in the Lord, This Sunday s gospel (Mark 5:21-43) shows us the prompt response of Jesus to the expression of a need for healing. We encounter Jairus, in desperation, reaching out to Jesus on behalf of his little girl who is close to death. The news on the way that she died, and going any further would be useless, is met with Jesus call to have faith, and upon arrival, she is restored to health. The heart of Jesus could never resist a hand outstretched in need or an appeal made in faith. Healing was at the center of His public ministry. We can t lose sight however, that even though physical healings were marvelous and wonderful to behold, the greatest healing came when He encountered those who were sick, or dead, in sin. He takes the initiative. He is swift to respond, and the healing is total when Jesus is asked for mercy - the greatest remedy. His mercy in our lives can be preventative medicine, giving us the grace to avoid occasions of sin and draw on virtue that strengthens. It can be the medicine that keeps our less serious sin from growing beyond remedy. And, in addition to being the clinic, the confessional can be the ICU to which we bring those serious sins that deal death to our souls. There are many who feel their sin is greater than God s mercy. They think that freedom from guilt will come from just forgetting about it. But, that never works. Something triggers, and all floods in! Others fear what Father will say, and yet, I can tell you the greatest thing Father can say conveys what Jesus alone can do to bring total healing - I absolve you from your sins Then there are those who think it s too late. They think like those who stopped Jesus on the way and said Don't bother, she s dead. It s only too late once we have breathed our last. Our choice, our outreached hand, our asking - are all it takes for mercy to flood in and baptismal innocence to be restored. Let s spread this good news! Let s look for opportunities to embrace, and lead others to embrace, this Jesus who heals, whose greatest attribute is mercy! 4 Parish News First Friday Litany of the Sacred Heart will be prayed, as we seek to make reparation to the Heart of Jesus, following Holy Mass at 8:00 AM this Friday. First Saturday Communal Rosary follows the Holy Mass at 8:00 AM Mass on Saturday as we ask our Lady to hold us in her Immaculate Heart and join her prayers to ours for all our needs. Summer Adoration Hours The Blessed Sacrament is exposed daily, Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 to 7:55 AM. In addition, on Thursday, exposition is extended after Mass for adoration until 12:00 Noon. We will resume afternoon hours after Labor Day. Want To Be An Altar Server? We are blest with an outstanding crew of altar servers! Want to be part of this service of Jesus, His priest, and our community at worship? Any boy or girl who will be entering 4th grade or higher this Fall is invited! Simply call in the name, parent contact , and phone number to Mary Kay in our office. You will be contacted by John St. Pierre, the Director of our Servers, to set up training time. At that time he will ask for Mass time of preference, etc. As things slow up a bit, the summer is a great time to be trained. John does each training personally, working out dates and times that work best for each potential server and the family. Encourage your kids, folks! It s a great way to enter into the Mass more fully and understand it more profoundly. John teaches the why, not just the what! Church Open for You! It s great to see more and more people discovering the great gift of our open church and the benefit of some quiet one on One time with the Lord before His Real Presence within the tabernacle of our church. So many, of all ages, have been sharing the effects of time spent with Him, listening, being inspired by the beauty of the sacred place, and finding the rest of the day enriched by those minutes spent with Him. The center door opens at 7AM every day and doesn t close until 8PM. Discover the gift! Bring the kids! It s so heartwarming to see parents teaching from the windows, images of saints, praying with children, then kindling a votive candle in one of the shrines to have the prayer intention linger in the presence of the Lord! Remember... we form the stories our kids will tell about what it was like to grow up Catholic! No teacher, no class, no preacher, nothing can replace mom and dad, first and best teachers of their children, mostly by living example, of the ways of faith! 5 FOURTH OF JULY As we celebrate the birth of our nation this week, let s be united in our prayer for all that needs healing, all that needs to be rediscovered. Let s lift up all in the military and elected officials. May we realize that with freedom comes responsibility, with choice accountability, and, ultimately at the foundation our trust in God, seeing ourselves as citizens here, but never losing sight that we truly are citizens of a kingdom not of this world. We have many reasons to be thankful on this Fourth of July, but we also come to this day with deep concerns for the many ills that so many suffer in our nation! Why not start the day this Wednesday by joining with your community in prayer? We offer adoration opportunity from 7:00 to 7:55 AM, and then Holy Mass at 8:00 AM. Traveling Vocation Icon This week, John & Doreen Andriola will receive the Icon of Jesus Knocking at the Door into their home and intercede in a special way for Joe, Dan, and all in formation, for those discerning, and for many vocations to rise up from our community. In addition to his early years of ministry in the Archdiocese of Boston, and in later years, here in the Diocese of Manchester, Msgr. As we congratulate him, we wish him many more healthy and happy years in his retirement as he continues to fill in according to need in various parishes throughout the Diocese. In addition, it was announced that Fr. Kelley s brother, Fr.
