THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Second & fourth Sundays at 1:00 PM. Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: A process for those who wish to enter the Catholic Faith, or for present Catholic individuals who after being baptized need to receive the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY: Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program and Natural Family Planning (NFP). PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or homebound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! God will save his people, and the blind will see, the deaf will hear, and the lame will walk. Streams will come forth in the desert, the sandy ground will become springs of water. Second Reading: James 2:1-5 James encourages the people to never show favoritism. He discusses an usher who escorted a rich man to the best seat, while ignoring a poor man. God chose poor people to be rich in faith, so we should never judge people by their riches. Gospel: Mark 7:31-37 Some people brought a deaf man who could not speak to Jesus and begged him to lay his hand on the man. Jesus opened the man s ears and cured his speech impediment. 3 From Fr. Charlie Dear Friends in Christ, This weekend, we are so happy to welcome to Saint Patrick s our new parochial vicar, Father Robert Ginel. Ordained to the priesthood in 1978, Father Ginel has been the parochial vicar at Holy Name of Jesus in Manhattan and Saint Andrew s in Elenville. He was the pastor of Saint Peter s in Monticello from 1994 to He was also the parochial vicar of Holy Cross in the Bronx and Sacred Heart in Suffern. The Altar Rosary Society is going to have a Meet and Greet after all of the Masses this weekend. This will be our opportunity to meet Father Ginel and welcome him to our parish family. The visit of Pope Francis will soon be here! He has been giving a weekly catechesis on the family during his Wednesday audiences. This past Wednesday, the Holy Father reminded parents that they have the responsibility to teach their children how to pray. Here is a brief quote from his audience: It is beautiful when mothers teach their little children to blow a kiss to Jesus or to Our Lady. What tenderness there is in this! In that moment the child s heart is transformed into a place of prayer. And this is a gift of the Holy Spirit. You, mothers and fathers! Teach your children how to pray, how to make the sign of the cross! Pope Francis has been giving these catechetical instructions dedicated to the family in preparation for the World Meeting of Families in September in Philadelphia and October s Synod of Bishops on the Family in Rome. As we gather here as a parish family on this first weekend of September, we welcome and pray for Father Ginel and we pray for all of our students and teachers returning to school, that God may grant a good academic year. ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS The Rosary Altar Society holds meetings every first Saturday, after 9am Mass, following the Rosary. We are looking for new members to enlighten our ministry to the Blessed Virgin Mary. All who may be willing to serve, please contact Debbie Caldwell at ADULT BIBLE STUDY Our parish Bible Study Group will resume its twice a month meetings on Thursday, September 10 th. We will be studying Revelation, following the Little Rock Bible Study program. On the first night, we will discuss the introduction and first chapter of this mysterious final book of the New Testament authored by St. John. As always, we will meet from 7:30 until 9:00 pm in Room 10 of the Parish Center. A proposed schedule will be provided that enables us to complete this 8 session course by December. A donation of one item, per family, per week, would overflow the basket! Please bring an item when you come to Mass, or stop en route from the grocery store and linger awhile. St. Patrick s is open Monday Saturday, 7am 6pm. Please consider donating from your overstocked cupboard.
