3 Bits n Pieces Congratulations to Bryce Eberly who was a first place winner at the Student Technology Association State Conference. Because of his award, Bryce will advance to the national conference in Orlando. Bryce is a student at Penn Manor High School. We extend our sincere sympathy to the following persons and families: To Ray and Anna Ruth Enders and Jim and Vicki Enders following the death of their grandson and son, Nathan Enders, his wife, and two children on Saturday, April 15 in Florida. Nathan and his family died in a private plane accident. Memorial services were held on April 29 at the Chandler Field Museum in Williamson, GA. For those who want to reach out to Jim and Vicki their address is 2427 Quebec School Road, Middletown, MD To Flora Jean Beam and her family following the death of Merlin on April 5 after a lengthy illness. Merlin celebrated his 99 th birthday in February. The last months of his life were filled with celebrations of family and a life well-lived. Please keep Flora Jean and the Beam family in your prayers. To the family of Allen Hansell who died on Wednesday, May 10. Allen served as pastor of the Mountville congregation from He also served as District Executive for the ANE District as well as in roles at Elizabethtown College and the denomination. Funeral services will be on June 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wilmington, DE Church of the Brethren. To Lee Martin and family following the death of Lee s mother, Betty Martin, on Thursday, May 11. Betty was a former member of our congregation. Here are portions of thank you notes recently received from recipients of our benevolent outreach giving. From Rev. John L. McCullough, President and CEO Church World Service, in regard to our Blankets Sunday Donation given in February in the amount of $1,317. It is so heartening to receive your generous donation to the Church World Service Blankets Program. Your commitment helps people in communities around the world recover from disaster and know that someone cares enough to provide support. Because of you, Church World Service is able to respond when disasters occur and support is needed. We thank you! From David Steele, General Secretary, Church of the Brethren. Thank you for your faithful support of the Church of the Brethren. Your prayers and the many ways that you give of your time and tithes are making a difference in the life-changing work we do together through Church of the Brethren Ministries. We would also like to express our gratitude for making a commitment to give $6,000 to the mission and ministry of the COB From Danielle J. Peters, Director of the Columbia Food Bank regarding our April donation: Thank you for your donation to us this month. Your kindness to us just keeps Mountville COB March 2017 Offerings multiplying! Danielle s entire letter is now on our bulletin board. When at the church, stop by and read all of it. For General Fund $ 18, Continuing Our Vision $ 8, Designated $ 5,

4 Inside Outreach Annual Conference "Witness to the City" This year Annual Conference is June 28-July 2 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our church will again participate in a witness to the city by collecting items to be taken there for the Bethany Christian Services project. In Grand Rapids Bethany works with families who are refugees, and more specifically, they work with them the first six months they are in the country. Their focus includes things such as meeting refugees at the airport, helping them transition to jobs, and providing language training. They are an affiliate of Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program. HOW CAN YOU HELP? They are looking for the following items that you may bring to church to be taken to conference. These items are expressed needs for people being helped to reconstruct their day to day lives in a new place. The following items should be placed in the Narthex bin by June 18, Envelopes Note books Pens and Pencils Scotch tape Twin and Full Sheet Sets Food Pantry Giving Plan Update If you share food or money with our food pantries then you already know that we have been supporting three of them with our grocery cart giving since The recipients are Columbia Food Bank, Hempfield Food Pantry, and Council of Churches in Lancaster. It is the intent of Outreach Team to stay current with each organization s needs, while also honoring the way our own church members prefer to give. Some prefer a check to the pantry and others like to supply food products by way of our grocery cart. Hempfield and Columbia appreciate both food donations and money gifts. Council of Churches does better by their recipients if they receive monetary gifts. This is because they can get more food for less if they have the cash. To keep all three in a situation of fairness we will give food from our grocery cart equally to Hempfield and Columbia. Monetary gifts will go as follows: 25% to Columbia and Hempfield. 50% will now go to Council of Churches. We thank you for your continued support in working against hunger in our communities. Decision Regarding the 2016 MCOB Budget Additional Funds The 2016 church budget year ended with extra funds in the amount of $11,150. Leadership Team asked Outreach Team to decide where to share 20% of that surplus. That amount comes to $2,230 and will be shared by two recipients, one global and one local. Locally we will give to TABOR Community Services. Their mission is to help strengthen the Lancaster County community by giving people the tools and inspiration to meet their housing and financial challenges and by revitalizing their surroundings. The Global Food Initiative is the other recipient. Formerly known as Two Cent, it is the Church of the Brethren s Global outreach providing awareness and advocacy for hunger issues. We think of it primarily as food, but it includes clean water and help in achieving food security and general self sufficiency. -4-
