Rich Miller-Todd Moderator 2012 IA/NE Regional Association The 58 th Annual meeting and conference was terrific. The move toward limited business and more workshops was a strength of this meeting. They did vote unanimously to accept the work of the new structure team. There was a lot of hard work that went into this process. The Iowa/Nebraska Association had 22 representatives at the meeting and they are excited to work toward the 2014 conference in Omaha. Three new Nebraska representatives from Ashby/Hyannis were present and really pumped about the meeting and all that it offered. A citation of appreciation was given to Rev. Wendy Van Tassell (Spencer) for all the hard work she has accomplished for the NA. The Ashland Renewal Project was highlighted as well. There was a great display and a time for Rev. Abel Sisco to address the meeting concerning the Ashland project. Rev. Rich Miller-Todd led a portion of the CFTS workshop. A Moderator s meeting gathered representatives from several associations together for lunch to share common concerns. Our youth sent a visual report to the assembly via Utube and it was a hit. Over $2000 was quickly raised to do a roof job for one of the families being assisted by the youth gathering. With 100 heat in South Dakota they did a great job. Emily Miller-Todd is one of the HOPE officers for this year. Emily was formally received into the CFTS (Cong. Foundation for Theological Studies) program by the board that met at the adult meeting in Minneapolis. She will complete the Congregational History and Polity requirements for her seminary education through this body. They award financial assistance but more importantly provide an educational seminar leading up to writing a polity paper for class credit. She will attend seminars at the Boston Congregational Library and in Britain where the Congregational movement began. Page 1

Any questions contact Chad Pinkston Thank you so much to our WONDERFUL church family for all your support and encouragement for our annual youth conference, NAPF/HOPE. This year we had the opportunity to work with a mission group called Mission Discovery that set up mission sights for our leaders and youth. This year our conference was in Rapid City, SD, and our group got the opportunity to do mission work, helping kids and families of the Lakota Native Americans around Pine Ridge Reservation. This reservation is a very poor community full of hard times and struggles. There were many sights and our girls worked on different projects which included scraping and painting houses, landscaping projects, building a deck so that kids and adults wouldn't get hurt jumping from a ledge, removing stumps and cleaning up yards, putting in new safe floors in some houses, built sandboxes, and worked with the Dakota Transitional Headstart Program for underprivileged kids and built a stage for the kids to perform songs and dance, and built a playhouse. The girls shared that they heard how they were able to help the families through these projects. Building the kids play areas helped by creating spaces for kids to play safely. Many families had major financial struggles and physical hardships, and were so grateful for the help that was done for them on their homes. One family was very grateful for the group's help because they had fallen on some pretty hard times both financially and physically. The mother had two heart attacks, and a failing kidney, and her husband had hurt his back. Our youth said that among their favorite experiences during this trip, a big part was being a part of the mission work. Helping the families and children really touched their hearts! They also loved all the wonderful friends they made among the other youth that come from all parts of the U.S. from other Congregational Churches. They also said they loved the worship time they spent together before their mission work days! So we just want to say thank you again for helping us continue to be part of these awesome opportunities for God to move through our hands! From Shelly Speas, Anna Wolvers, Riley Petersen, Katlyn McDonald, Liz Russell, Adrianna Carmer, Ashley and Alexus Beaty. Page 3
