1 Pilgrim s Progress June 2013 Issue The purpose of this church shall be to bind together followers of Jesus Christ, for the object of sharing in the worship of God and in seeking His will for our lives, especially as that will is set forth in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Main St. Marshalltown, IA pastor@fccmarshalltown.org secretary@fccmarshalltown.org treasurer@fccmarshalltown.org There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 I love these words from the book of Ecclesiastes because they capture life so honestly. Nothing stays the same forever. Children grow up and leave home, flowers bloom and die, a strong athletic body begins to lose its tone, and the people we love and welcome into our lives sometimes have to say goodbye and leave us. There is the risk of encountering pain in all of these seasons of life. But would we give up the joy of raising and living with children because of the pain their leaving us might bring? Would we forgo having the beauty of flowers around us because we know they will eventually wilt and die? Would we never enjoy physical activity and keeping fit because we know age will someday take strength from us? Would we never enrich our lives by making friends because they may move away someday? No! We live life fully knowing that nothing lasts forever. You, at First Congregational Church, are now in the season of saying goodbye to people that you said hello to not so many years ago. Barry and Cheryl will be leaving you, and shortly after they leave you will be saying, hello to me. One season closing another beginning. This season in your church life can, and should be, a rich time of thanksgiving and an opportunity for growth for all of us. I look forward to being with you for whatever time God grants us, and I look forward to hearing of Barry and Cheryl s joyous adjustment to a new life in their new assignment for service. Let s prayerfully joins hands and hearts in welcoming this new season at First Congregational Church. Jean Bower Interim Pastor Page 1

The Meals-On-Wheels Association of Marshalltown is a nonprofit community service that delivers the noon time meal 365 days a year to the homes of qualified Marshalltown residents. This program was implemented March 1,1967 under the auspices of the Marshall County Community Service Council. During the past year 12,508 meals were delivered. Meals are prepared every day at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center by the Food and Nutritional Services staff, under the direction of a registered dietitian. Meals meet dietary recommendations prescribed by the client s physician. Hot and/or cold meals are available which include a serving of protein (meat, poultry or fish) and two side items. Each meal is delivered in a special container. Every effort is made to keep the price of the meals affordable without sacrificing quality or nutritional value. Clients are billed monthly. Current cost is $2.85 per meal. Food Stamps are accepted. Volunteers are the heart of the Meals- On-Wheels program. Volunteers may deliver meals: individually as a family in pairs as a group (Con t on page 3) Page 2
3 (Meals on Wheels Con t from pg 2) FCC is responsible for delivery of the meals on the 4th and 5th Saturdays of EACH month. Never been a Meals-On- Wheels volunteer before? No problem... we train. The entire delivery process doesn't even take an hour! There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the Narthex. What a wonderful way to give back to our community. If you have any questions about the M.O.W. procedures, please don't hesitate to contact a Benevolence & Missions Committee member listed below. His new diagnosis is NED (No Evidence of Disease)!! His labs looked good and his CT scan was clear. He is in the top 2 % of mantle cell lymphoma survivors he told Dr. Prow he d never been in the top 2 % of anything what an accomplishment! Next appointment is in one year May 2014!! We have been so blessed during our journey over the past 5 1/2 years. Most of you have been right there by our side. We cannot thank you enough for all of your positive thoughts and prayers along the way. IT WORKED!! Thank you so much With love from Ron & Vicki Long SPECIAL ANNIVESARY WISHES. Don and Romaine Mackaman as they celebrate 60 years of wedded bliss on June 13th! Charles and Joann Fry on June 25 th as they celebrate their 30 th Anniversary. May God grant you many more happy and healthy years together. LOOKING FOR.Joan Carter is asking for help in locating a key chain that her husband used to carry his keys to the church when he was a trustee. Several years ago his keys were turned into the church on a special NASCAR key chain this key chain was given to him by his granddaughter. Now his granddaughter is learning to drive and it would mean a lot to her if that key chain could be located as she would like to carry her car keys on it as a constant reminder of Grandpa. If anyone has it or may know where it might be, please contact Joan Carter it would make a young lady happy to find it! Thank you for your help! Page 4
