1 Junior Historians Chapter Report Chapter School Year School Name: Crossland Ninth Grade Center Sponsor Name: Heather Fuller 1. Chapter Projects: List all projects and activities of the chapter this year, including activities planned but not scheduled until after this report is made. This is very important in determining awards. Also include individual projects. --Walking field trips to historical locations around out city, we then blog about it. -- Junior Historians Holiday Drive: We received a $500 grant from the Meadow s Foundation. We used part of the money to create two prizes for the two homerooms that bring the most non-perishable food, toiletry, and gently used clothing items. Then with the leftover money we were able to buy $ in donations, which equaled 183 items, in the name of the CNGC Junior Historians to Mission Granbury. We collected so many items that we were able to help two local shelters. --Local participation in Granbury s Texas Independence Celebration -Member Sarah Perriello submitted an original artwork for the contest, in acrylic. -Member Abby Webb submitted an original artwork for the contest, in pastel. -Member Lillian Hyde submitted an original power point on the importance of Sam Houston on Texas Independence. -- Living History This is an original idea from member, Sarah Perriello, and perfected by all members of the CNGC Junior Historians. The idea is that we interview community members that have lived through some historical time (Pearl Harbor, September 11 th, etc.) and record it via video. We can then upload it to a YouTube channel and allow a place for students to access primary sources for projects, etc. 2. Local History: Briefly describe new information about local history that your chapter has unearthed. We ve delved into the details. We get to not just see the plethora of historical markers around our towns, but know the stories legendary and personal behind those landmarks.

New Chapters: List efforts has your chapter has made to establish relations with the community (e.g., cooperative projects with a local historical society): --We have contacted the local historical society and been given local tours for historical markers. --Our Holiday drive allowed us to give back to the community, we set out to help Mission Granbury, but were absolutely elated when we discovered we had collected so many items that we could help another local shelter. --Our Living History project will once again reach out to community members preserving their legacy of the past, in the present, and for the future. --Local participation in Granbury s first Texas Independence Day Celebration 4. 8 5. Briefly Note Any Additional Information Deemed Necessary: We also hold mini-fundraisers within our school. The Junior Historian s recently came up with the idea of holding a Luck of the Irish fundraiser. We sell shamrocks at lunch, and the students write a teacher s name on it they would like to see dressed up as a leprechaun the day after St. Patrick s Day. chapter reports to: KateHopfer@tshaonline.org
