1 Dear Members of Trinity; Trinity Lutheran Church On April 24 th a large eight story building collapsed in Bangladesh. Over 1,000 people working in the building were killed. The building was being used to make clothing items most of which was to be shipped to the US. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL JUNE 2013 KINGDOM ROCKS Vacation Bible School for Pre-K 6 is set for Sunday, June 9 through Thursday, June 13, 5:30 8:00 p.m. at United Church of Christ. The US congress is working on an illegal immigration bill. Not an easy task when one takes into account the difference in opinions that is held on this issue. Some believe the illegal immigrants are a drain on our economy. Others want and need the cheap labor that the immigrants provide. Others look to immigrants to do the hard and dirty jobs that Americans are not interested in. Two items. Two very different items. One in a foreign country one in the US. But these two items are related to the purchase of Fair Trade items that have been on sale for the past month at Trinity Lutheran. The problem in many of the poor countries is of large multi-national corporations taking advantage of poor people. So you have a large eight story building killing over a thousand people. Large corporations also buy large quantities of land to raise tea, coffee cocoa beans and other items sold in the US. They hire workers at low wages so that they can receive huge profits. Because workers don t earn a living wage from these large corporations they try to enter the US as illegal immigrants so that they can earn enough money to support their family who are usually left behind. Fair Trade provides a solution to those problems. Here is some specific information about the chocolate bars. Divine Chocolate is made only with the finest quality Fair Trade cocoa beans from Kuapa Kokoo, a cooperative of small holder farmers in Ghana. The cocoa is grown in the shade of the tropical rainforest and slowly fermented and dried in the sun by the farmers, who take great pride in the continued on page 2 TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH Chamblerian, SD Pastor: Duane Neguebauer Phone: Pastor s trinity@midstatesd.net Secretary s trinitysec@midstatesd.net Website: trinity-live.org Thank you to Stacey Tveit and all the volunteers who make it possible for our children to attend.. SYNOD ASSEMBLY The annual South Dakota Synod Assembly will be held in Sioux Falls on June 7th and 8th. Trinity s delegates will be David and Maryalice Larson. Emilee Larson will serve as our youth delegate. One major item of business at this year s assembly will be the election of bishop. Bishop David Zellmer has served a six year term and announced last winter that he would be willing to serve for a second term. Please remember in your prayers our delegates and all who will be attending this year s assembly. Trinity Women of the ELCA NEWS Trinity Lutheran Church Cookbook Trinity Women of the ELCA are starting an exciting fund raising project. For the months of June, July, and August, we are collecting recipes for putting together a Trinity Lutheran Church Cookbook. We would like appetizers, beverages, bread, desserts, dips, entrees, salads, sauces and relishes, snacks, soups and stews, miscellaneous and tips and vegetable recipes. Please mail to Rosemary Mohr, P O Box 282, Chamberlain, SD 57325, to rozi55@juno.com or drop off in the Recipe Box at church. continued on page 4 Trinity Lutheran Church 1

Choosing delicious Divine gives you guaranteed pleasure and the farmers a guaranteed fair deal, as well as the chance to invest in a better future that s good business. Fair Trade deal has enabled farmers to plan for their future, send their children to school, learn new skills and improve their farms. In other words Fair Trade provides a solution to some of our world s problems. Fair Trade purchases the tea, coffee, cocoa beans and other items directly from the small producer at a fair price. That means a couple of things. 1. When you are purchasing an item from Fair Trade it is of superior quality, much better than the cheaper equivalent from a grocery store. 2. The producer receives a living wage from the sale of the items they have raised. If Fair Trade was not purchasing the items the farmers would have to sell their products through a broker who would pay a much lower price. Since the producer is receiving a livable wage they do not need to look for other options of trying to support their family such as entering the US illegally. I purchased a number of the candy bars. Again the small bars cost $1.50 which is a little higher than the $1.25 that I paid for a snicker bar at a restaurant. But the quality of the Fair Trade chocolate bar made in Germany is better and I am helping make the world a better place. Since most of the first items ordered were sold another order will be placed and another sale will be available in the near future. I would encourage you to make a purchase. Your Friend in Christ, Pastor Duane continued from page 1 Just a note that Lutheran World Relief is one of the major sponsors of Fair Trade. Those in Service to the U.S. We pray for all Adam Larson and all the men and women in the military units that have been called to active duty overseas and their families. We also pray for all who have been wounded in service to our country. Trinity Lutheran Church 2
