1 rinity News April 2014 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Prayer Lists 2 Birthdays & Anniversaries 2 Church Cleaning 2 April Service Ministers 2 Service Schedule 3 Women of Trinity 4-5 Feb. Council Minutes 6 Deacon Minutes 7 April Calendar 8 from the desk of... Vicar Lisa Dear Members of Trinity Lutheran, As I sit down to write this note to all of you, it is a beautiful mid-march morning. It seems a nice change of pace after what has seemed like an especially long winter. Beautiful days like this remind me of a week I got to spend traveling in the southern part of England as part of a class I took five years ago. During that week, the class got to explore places like Stonehenge, Tintagel, Westminster Abbey, and a number of cathedrals and churches. Those, at least, were the highlights of that trip for me. POINTS OF INTEREST: Lenten Services Wed. at 7:00 p.m. April 5 Prairie River Women s Gathering April 13 Palm Sunday Brunch April 17 Maundy Thursday Service at 7:00 p.m. April 18 Good Friday Service at 7:00 p.m. April 19 Easter Service at 5:30 p.m. April 20 Easter Services at 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. Photo by Vicar Lisa The sites themselves were quite different from one another, but their similarities made them all the more interesting. Stonehenge, ancient ruins on the Salisbury Plain. Tintagel, castle ruins on the high cliffs of Cornwall. The cathedrals and Westminster Abbey, huge, beautiful places of worship in the midst of towns and cities like London. One of the most profound experiences for me in those places was being able to take some time for intentional prayer. For me, the feeling of God s presence rang loud and clear whether I was watching the waves roll in at Tintagel, seeing the sun shine on the stones at continued on page 3

Thank you, Lord, for the beauty of this place. May all who come here recognize this beauty and know that you are here. It has been five years, and this moment of prayer still moves me to prayers of thankfulness, even in the midst of occasional trial and stress. As we prepare for the Resurrection of Our Lord, I would like to invite all of you to think about the times and places where you have seen and felt God s presence being made known. Where have you said, Yes! He is risen indeed!, or simply said Thank you, Lord, for this moment? Wherever those words have been said, or whenever you have felt God s presence surrounding you in nature or in worship, my prayer for you is that those moments stick with you for as long as possible. May they be part of what you turn to this spring as the days lengthen, when life gets hectic, or when you struggle to see where the Risen Lord is in the midst of the every day. Peace, Vicar Lisa Heffernan Page 3
4 OUR MISSION AND PURPOSE: As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world. TRINITY WOMEN OF THE ELCA LEADERSHIP TEAM Cynthia Wall, President, Maria Birch, Vice-President, or Rosemary Mohr, Treasurer, Nancy DeBoer, Mission Action FROM CYNTHIA WALL: Trinity Lutheran Women, am excited for Saturday, Spring Gathering, Prairie Rivers Conference. Everyone is invited! I 9:30 am - 2:30pm. We will be challenging ourselves with some topics that we are reluctant to deal with sometimes. Vicar Lisa will kick off the day with a bible study exploring inclusion and exclusion of people through the story in Luke of Jesus healing the paralytic man. I have invited two of our own community members to speak with Margene Thompson during her presentation, Today s Dream Tomorrow s Reality. During the afternoon we will look at some instances when it is difficult to include individuals. Karen Kraus from Lutherans Outdoors will share how that organization includes everyone! Guest from the congregation will share from their daily work how to become aware and include people with developmental disabilities and finally a guest will challenge us to think if we are excluding individuals because of their economic status. I hope everyone will come. Lunch is a Potato Bar, $7.00. You may come and volunteer some talents while you enjoy the fellowship. (Please the church [vicarlisa@trinity-live.org] if you would like to share your talents.) We will be gathering to set up and prepare the meal, Friday, 3:30pm until done, come anytime. (meal prep, table set-up, decorating) We need volunteers during the day. Registration Table: 1 person (come before 9am) Ushers: 2-4 persons (come before 9am) Meal Service: 6 persons (come before 11am) Clean up: 4 persons (come after 2pm) The Prairie Rivers Conference will collect two offerings during this event. One will be a monetary offering that is split between the Synodical Women of ELCA and Feeding South Dakota, and a Love Offering of food donations that will be split between the three food pantries in Chamberlain. You may bring donations that day, or we will have a box you may drop your gifts into in the narthex of the church through Sunday morning. I am looking forward to some wonderful fellowship and worship. ~ Cynthia Wall ~ Page 4
