Zion is responsible for serving the evening meal at the REACH Cold Weather Shelter, in Hagerstown on November 12. The menu for the meal will be spaghetti, salad, bread, and applesauce for dessert. If anyone would like to help defray the cost of the ingredients for the meal, donations may be made by placing your donation in the offering plate and marking it REACH Dinner or by giving the donation directly to Gail Smith. Help is needed to cook and serve the meal. Please meet at the REACH Shelter on 140 W. Washington Street, #300, Hagerstown at 5 PM. Those would like to help serve and clean-up should arrive at 6:30 PM. Please consider helping with this important outreach project. Zion this Month Come and join in the Fellowship and Fun and give thanks to God for everything he gives us ZION SISTERS IN CHRIST MEETING On October 22, 2015, Zion Sisters class members met with Pastor Layman to discuss the future of Zion Sisters At that time it was decided to disband Zion Sisters at the end of this year. It was acknowledged that Zion Sisters Class has been responsible for organizing many of the activities at Mt. Zion over the years including: The Needy Family Fund; Christmas Parties for the Women of the Church; Family Christmas Dinner; Ruritan Dinners; Ravenwood Birthday Parties; Red Cross Gift Wrapping; Sewing Angels; Workdays at SERRV; Reach Cold Weather Shelter Dinner; Yard Sale; Micah s Back Pack; School and Health Kits; Clothing Drive; Meals for church families; Cards to the sick ; Altar Flowers The Social Ministry Committee and the Fellowship Committee should be taking over most of these items. It was decided to divide Zion Sisters Finances. There is currently a balance of $ That money will be divided as follows: $500 to the Church Scholarship Fund; $500 to be given to a future Family Fundraiser; purchase of a Silver Communion Bread Plate (to be engraved) and the balance will be given to the AED machine fund. The Needy Family Fund currently has a balance of $6, which will be placed under the Church Treasury and the distribution will be handled by an Outreach Committee. Profit from this year s Yard Sale was $4, It has been the pleasure of the Zion Sisters In Christ class members to be able to serve Mt. Zion and our community for over 40 years. 2 The Pastor's Pen Page 2 Rejoice, give thanks, and sing! The national Day of thanksgiving will be observed on Thursday, November 26. And people will gather with loves ones to share in feasting and showing gratitude to God for the blessings of life. We will gather on Thanksgiving Eve with folks from our community to worship here at Mt. Zion. We hope you will come to Friendship Hall that evening to worship together. Come Honor all of those who served in the service of our Country THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19--6:30 PM November's Dinner Our Night (D.O.N.) will take place at Hometown Diner, North Village,Hagerstown. Please contact Teresa Hutzell at or sign the list on the narthex bulletin board. Hope you can plan to attend. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29 Congregational Meeting We will meet immediately after the worship service for our Congregational Meeting to adopt a budget for 2016 and elect two Council members for 3-Year Terms. Be present to conduct this important work to continue our ministry together at Mt. Zion We will provide gifts bags and balloons for those having a birthday in November. Refreshments will include cake, punch and pretzels. Our chime choir will play some special music. We will sing some favorite hymns and enjoy several games of Bingo with the residents. Help is needed to bring the residents to the fellowship room, as well as helping them with the games and refreshments. If you are able to help, please come to Ravenwood at 1:30 PM. Please consider joining for a rewarding afternoon.

OUR SPECIAL THANKS TO:...Annabelle Smith who shared her talent in providing her rendition of "The Old Rugged Cross" at the 9/27 worship service...all who came to dinner at Bonnie's at the Red Byrd to help raise funds to support the CROP Walk for the Hungry and to Laura Sprankle who organized this effort October 15th...Sherry Bingaman and Pastor Layman who represented Mt. Zion in the 10/11 CROP Walk and those who made contributions to support the CROP Walk in our area...the members who attended the Corn Maze activity at Summers' Farm and Amy Smith sho gathered the supplies to make s'mores and hot dogs YOUR GIFTS CAN HELP New study Bibles have been purchased for use In the adult Sunday Church School. If you would like to give a gift in honor or in memory of a loved one in $20 increments, please give your gift to Jackie Berry and the name of the person being remembered to Pastor Layman to place in the book. We have purchased Two AED (Automated External Defibrillators) machines to be placed in the church building and Friendship Hall for use in times of emergency. Your gifts in any amount to help defray this cost of $2,146.00, may be placed in the offering plate and designated for AED machines....jeanne Smith and Laura Murdock who placed the AED machines in the church narthex and Friendship Hall to care for persons in a time of emergency...all who regularly support MIcah's Backpacks by bringing gifts to share with the children of our elementary schools. In September you contributed 113 cans of pasta and 10 applesauce pouches. Sign-up sheet in the narthex. Refreshments, games, and treats for children from toddlers through Grade 8. Family, friends and community members are welcome to attend. 6:00 to 6:30 PM--Trunk or Treat; 6:30-8:00 PM--Indoor Party WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25--7:00 PM Rohrersville Community Thanksgiving Service at Mt. Zion Lutheran's Friendship Hall. We invite you to bring non-perishable food items for the South County Food Pantry or money donations for the South Washington county Emergency Fund.
