A Big Thank You All I can say is Thank You. Thank you for the prayers and thank you for the cards. And especially for understanding during this month long trial. God is good and full of GRACE! He has been with me through it all. From bailing off my horse, to the ATV ride to my cabin, to the rough truck ride to the ER in Alamogordo, NM, to the ambulance ride all the way to the El Paso, TX trauma center, through the surgery, to the recovery in the hospital in El Paso, to the Wings to Hope air ambulance trip to St. Louis, to the My Mercy Rehab, to home, and finally to here I am, actually at Zion and leading worship on Sunday the 30 th of April. God is good and full of GRACE! Also, especially a Big Thank You to Pastors Paul and Susan for leading worship during my ordeal. Thanks so much. We'll do our best to get back to normal. The Worship Committee and the Council have been very understanding and accommodating concerning my short term disability, and I thank them for that. As they say, This to will pass. And finally, a special thanks to my wife, Linda, for her understanding and care, and to Andi as we have tried our best to maintain some sort of normalcy relative to the offices of Zion and the Pastor. I will normally be in the office Monday-Thursday, 10am through 2pm and of course on Sunday mornings. My body is trying its best to heal but needs some rest time, so please bear with me for another month or so. What sustained me through all of this was Psalm 121: 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains from where will my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let my foot be moved; he who keeps me will not slumber. 2

4 He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is my keeper; the LORD is my shade at my right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike me by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep me from all evil; he will keep my life. 8 The LORD will keep my going out and my coming in from this time on and forevermore. As you can see, I personalized it just for me as I would suggest that you do the same. God is good and full of GRACE! Blessings, Larry 3

Happy May from the CDC! The SugarBear Graduation will be on Friday, May 12 th. We are blessed to have 14 children graduating this year. They have been practicing their graduation songs now for a month! The playground shades went up already. It is nice to have shade on our playground and the kids enjoyed watching them go up too. Also, a photographer came to take pictures of the children playing on the playground to showcase what the Veiled Prophets Organization helped to fund. I will also be giving a little talk about the playground on Saturday. The last day of the school year for the Ferguson-Florissant School District will be Tuesday, May 23rd. Our Summer Kick-off will be Wednesday, May 24 th. We will have a bounce house and hot dogs and hamburgers will be served. The phone continues to ring with prospective new enrollment. The parents are telling us that they can really feel the love when they walk into the CDC. Thanks for all the continued prayers and support. Blessings ~ Sue Dunham CDC Director May Birthdays 9th 11th 17th 20th Adele Cross Elda Pfitzinger Sonya Calhoun Dott Twillmann May Anniversaries 31st Ronald & Wanda Devenport St. Stephen's Food Pantry We have met the goal of 100 boxes of cereal. Thank you again! By special request from St. Stephen's, our next goal is 100 cans of canned meals; that is a complete meal in a can with no need to add ingredients. Some examples include spaghetti and meatballs and chili. Thank you for your continued support! ~Kristina 4

The Paschal Candle Have you taken a moment to take a close look at our candle? The Paschal (pas' kl) Candle, or Easter Candle, is a tall, free-standing candle that is lit every Sunday from Easter through Pentecost. It is also lit whenever we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and whenever a funeral or memorial service takes place in the sanctuary. During the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, the candle given to the person baptized is lit form the Paschal Candle. This symbolizes that 1) the power of our Lord's resurrection is at work in the life of the baptized person and 2) the light of the risen Christ is given to the person who will not walk in the light of Christ. At a funeral, the Paschal Candle stands at the head of the casket. This serves as a visual reminder of 1) the connection between the resurrection of Christ on Easter and the promise of the resurrection made to the deceased at his or her baptism, 2) Christ's steadfast presence with us now and throughout eternity, and 3) how the light of the risen Christ shines in the midst of our darkest moments. Paschal means something related to the Passover. Christ is referred to as the Paschal Lamb or Passover Lamb who was sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 5:7). Paschal Candles come in a variety of heights and diameters. They are often engraved or decorated with a variety of symbols representing Jesus, his passion or his resurrection. When Paschal Candles are created, the manufacturer chooses from symbols such as: a cross, a royal crown, a crown of thorns, and Easter lily, the numerals for the year, a dove, a chalice, a lamb, a shepherd's staff, a rose, the letters Alpha and Omega (Jesus said, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:13), a Chi Rho (a symbol in which the letters X and P are blended together XPICTOC is Greek for Christ), the sequence of letters I, H, and C (IHCOYC is Greek for Jesus), and three or five inserts (wax-covered nails) representing the wounds of Christ. Our Candle has a gold cross, three inserts at the top of the cross and the ends of the cross bar, the letters Alpha and Omega, and small pictures of the passion story. Look for something special on Pentecost! ~Gail Voss, Worship Committee 5

Feed My Starving Children Mobile Food Pack As we have updated in the last two newsletters, Zion is involved in the effort to pack at least 100,000 meals to benefit FMSC. The food pack will be held on July 15th in Atonement's gymnasium. Here are a few interesting statistics about FMSC last year: 284,362,320 meals were produced 1,051,436 individuals volunteered for FMSC 91% of total annual donations is spent directly on meal production 99.8% of meals shipped safely reached their intended locations FMSC is so efficient in their efforts that $80 feeds a child for a year. The Atonement mobile food pack has its own donation and volunteer website: give.fmsc.org/events/-/e There is also a Facebook page for our mobile food pack: facebook.com/fmscatonementpack If you have any ideas for fund raisers, please feel free to share them with Stacey or Pam Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School (VBS) is coming up quick! VBS is an outreach ministry for Zion that allow us to teach the children of our neighborhood about Christ and God's love. This year's VBS theme is Maker Fun Factory and it will be June 26th-June 30th from 5:30pm-8:00pm, with dinner provided. Be sure to mark it on your calendar. We are inviting all ages to join in the activities! We are still looking for volunteers. We'll need helpers at each of the stations: Bible Stories, Crafts, Games, and Food Preparation. If you are interested in volunteering, please Andi Martin at office@zionferguson.com. We will also be requesting cash and item donations this year. A donation list will be posted on the Cry Room window in the near future. Help us make this year's VBS unforgettable! 6
