Lines from Larry: Belief Beyond Understanding John tells of the resurrection in chapter 20, and with just one more chapter to go, the call to believe is reaching a fever pitch. People have asked me from time to time if I really believe Jesus rose from the dead. I don t find chapter 20 nearly as hard to believe as chapter 19. Rather than hard to believe, I find that Jesus, God Almighty come to earth in human form, would have the power to rise again an extremely reasonable thing. But that He would let the Jewish mob and the Roman soldiers kill Him on the cross? That truly amazes me. Yet easy or hard, belief in Jesus is what matters most of all. As you read John chapter 20, note that John goes in the tomb, sees the evidence that Jesus is gone and the burial cloths are all there, and he believes. But note the next comment that they did not yet understand from Scripture that Jesus must die and rise from the dead. While the women wonder, and the disciples disappear into hiding, Jesus starts showing up and proving He has risen from the dead. Thomas gets a special invitation to be a witness. And in so doing, Jesus pronounces a blessing on all who will believe because of the testimony of those disciples. Aren t you glad there isn t a test of understanding given to have relationship with God? John says he wrote these things down so we could believe in Jesus and have life in His name. Don t try to figure Him out - He is way beyond our understanding. But believe Him when He said, For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. I don t completely get it, but I believe it. And believing brings life in His name. From the Family of Gladys R: For all of your efforts at the Memorial Service of Gladys, THANK YOU! It was all she would have wanted...the best. Page 3

7 Eugene Church of Christ Page 7 Go North.Up and over the Beltline on Norkenzie Road. Look left to see a driveway into the address: 2424* Two trees grow there at the driveway s sides. One on your left. One on your right: Each a Spruce. Look up. Look down. Admire each one and soon you see; the difference is greater than specie. One is full; heavy with needles, healthy branches. The other?...you describe. What happened? Do you wonder? Do you know? Story of the 2 trees at 2424 Norkenzie* Once upon a time; long, long ago (1981 a quarter of a century), a daddy planted 2 Spruce trees: one each in honor of his 2 young daughters. A few seasons passed and then a Vandalizing-Santa needed a Christmas tree. You guessed! The V-Santa cut the top out of the little Spruce which had been planted on the NORTH side of the driveway. So, just as an injured tree will do: it s highest branch reached toward the light year after year until that branch became the trees apex. Yes, the Spruce had been injured, however in God s plan this injured tree lived; not as beautifully perfect as it would have been had it not been injured; however, always reaching to The Light it lived and grew. Look just a little to the South, at the uninjured tree, and you can SEE HOW THE INJURED WOULD HAVE APPEARED. Coming into the drive way at 2424 Norkenzie Road, we can observe the living lesson every day. Though you and I are not perfect being injured by the Spiritual enemy, the Spiritual challenger, we still have opportunity to REACH TO THE LIGHT (God s Word...found in the Gospel) and learn. Consider our Savior, Jesus The Christ, as the perfect tree. Consider self as the injured one, and believe this: God, our Heavenly Father looking at the man (self) in Christ, God our Heavenly Father, sees him (man...self) as PERFECT. *Strong s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, Dictionary of the Greek Testament page : Ίησούς Jesus What an amazing address for the church...you think?
