But today we're all meeting in the Life Center at 10:00am for a combined service celebrating our 90th anniversary. SIGHTSEER: Today / 10:00am / B ADVANCE: Monthly / 10:00am / A ENGAGE: October 14 / 10:00am / A TH ANNIVERSARY 9 DECADES OF DEVOTION Over the past nine decades, Highland has met in numerous locations. We started under a tent during a Gospel Meeting. We moved to a Masonic Hall, and then to a building that eventually became a flower shop. We grew and began gathering in what used to be a large home on Highland Street. We built a large multi-story building around that home. For a couple of years we met at Harding Academy and Harding School of Theology. And since 2010 we ve gathered at our campus on 400 N. Houston Levee Road. Each space has been special a place where friendships formed, faith decisions were made, callings and promptings from God were heard and obeyed, new ministries launched, losses lamented, and victories celebrated. Each is now a milestone along a larger journey, a reminder that the church is ultimately not a place but a people. Today we celebrate this journey, these people and the One who s led our way. Jim passed away last week. Services will be Friday, October 5th at 11:00am at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery W. Maryland Ave., North Little Rock, AR. There will be no visitation. No flowers, but you can make donations to the Alzheimer s Association in Jim s name. They will be taking a bus but some will need to carpool. Sign up at the Welcome Center. For more info contact Pat Wilemon at RHEO 4 WEEK COURSE October 21, 28; November 4, 11 We want Highlanders to experience Jesus way every day. Rheo is a new fourweek course that helps them do this. Rheo means flow and it reminds us how Jesus intends our relationship with him to flow abundantly from the heart, by the Spirit, into a life that nourishes the world around us (John 7:38). Participants will learn nine spiritual disciplines as well as ways to grow through adversity and to partner with the Spirit in daily life. The class is taught in A129 by Lawana Maxwell and Chris Altrock October 21, 28; November 4, 11. Registration is required at but you can also sign-up in The Commons today. $15 fee pays for the required book (picked up in The Commons beginning today; participants should read first 3 chapters prior to first class). HIGHLAND VETERANS VETERANS APPRECIATION DINNER Friday, November 9 / Highland We're hosting the 4 th Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Friday, November 9. It's also time to update our Highland Veterans booklet, which lists our veterans and their service information. If you are a military veteran and have not provided your service information, contact Ken Wells or Pat Patterson

3 LARRY MCKENZIE & JIM CHESTER 50 YEARS OF SERVICE Today we are honoring Larry McKenzie and Jim Chester for their 50 years of service on the Highland ministry staff. There is a money tree for them at a table in The Commons if you d like to contribute. CHILDREN WHAT ARE YOUR KIDS LEARNING? Our series for September and October is called Hi-yah! In this series, preschoolers will learn how to be the best ninjas they can be by being made new in their hearts and in their thinking. Throughout this series they will learn how to stop doing wrong things and start doing what s right.
