2 The Informer Page 2 Greetings. The President Shares Clara Horton I hope you all have enjoyed a relaxing summer (and endured all the rain)! It has been a great summer for the Rock Hill District United Methodist Women. First, we were actively involved in the First Mission u (formerly known as School of Mission) in July. I especially want to thank Ms. Ann Alexander and Ms. Ernestine Wright for teaching. Many others participated in a variety of roles: driving golf carts, supporting the craft store and providing table grace. Be on the look out for more information about Mission u at our annual meeting in September. Also in July, we collected book bags and school supplies for Wallace Family Life Center. Brenda Williams from Mt. Holly United Methodist Church drove the church van so that 12 of us could tag along to deliver the supplies. Seeing the children who will benefit from our gifts reminds me of our purpose. I look forward to seeing you on September 21, 2013 for our Annual Meeting at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Fort Mill. And at the 41st Annual Meeting of the SCCUMW at Bethel United Methodist Church Spartanburg, S. C. Registration is required. (You can enjoy the fall foliage on the drive to Bethel in Spartanburg). Thanks again for all you do to keep Faith, Hope, Love in Action. Notes From The Vice President Toni Love I am always thankful for your continuous support as we walk together on this Christian journey. I pray that all is well with each one of you. Some of the ladies in our district attended Mission u last month at Spartanburg Methodist College. The studies that were held this year were enlightened and spiritual filled and I want to challenge each of you to give great consideration and search your heart to perhaps attend next year. The 2013 Rock Hill District United Methodist Women s Annual meeting will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Fort Mill, SC. Our speaker for the morning session will be Susan Brooks who has been a prior study leader for the Haiti course at Mission u (formally SC School of Christian Mission). Registration starts at 9:00 am with worship service starting at 10:00 am. Our second session will follow, which will consist of our business meeting. Please note that lunch will not be served this year but we will provide childcare services if needed. We pray that all of you will plan to join us for this annual event as we recognize local units who have met requirements to be a Mission Today and/or Five Star unit. We will also have a memorial service where we will remember United Methodist women who have passed away since our last annual meeting. If you need childcare please contact me, Toni at by September 7 th. Philadelphia United Methodist Church is located at 1691 Hwy 160 West, Fort Mill SC Please use your GPS or Map Quest for directions. Thank you in advance for your participation and we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, September 21 st! Yours in Christian love, Toni Love

4 The Informer Page 4 Thank You! Let me say THANK YOU to all who responded to my plea for pictures from your unit activities for this year. Many were used on the district poster displayed at Mission u in Spartanburg in July. Others, along with some of these, will be used in the district scrapbook for My goal has been to be inclusive of all units and their activities if possible. It would be very helpful if the historian of each unit within the district would send one or two pictures from their unit each year to be used on the poster or in the scrapbook. This would more accurately tell our story to be passed down for future generations. Don t wait to be asked, send pictures all during the year when your unit has done a chosen project or fund raiser activity. From the Treasurer.. Just a reminder to all unit treasurers to have 4 th quarter reports to me no later than December 5. Anything received after that date will be considered 1 st quarter of Thank you for all that you do! Jackie Roach District Historian, 2013 United Methodist Women are informed and active readers. The Reading Program provides us with books on a variety of issues of concern to UMW. Make a conscious effort to participate in the 2014 Reading Program and encourage your UMW sisters to join you. Every title has a message some make it with humor and are uplifting, others call us to recognize that there are dark areas in our world and we are called to do something. You will be enriched. The new Officer Handbooks are now available in hard copy and I ll do my best to have a supply at the September Annual Meeting. If the 2014 Reading Program books are also available, you can start your 2014 reading. REMEMBER what you read from September 01, 2013 through August 31, 2014 is what counts. There are five categories and you must read one book from each category and the Response Magazine to qualify for Level I. Forms for record keeping will be available at the Annual Meeting. You do not need a copy of your own. Each book may be passed around to others in your group and any book on the lists from is eligible. Janie Matson, Resource Chair yuccatree@comporium.net

If you have events happening in your church or unit and you would like to have them published in the Informer, please contact Celeste Tiller: celeste.tiller@gmail.com. The Informer is published in March, June, August, and December. CORNERSTONE UMW IS HOSTING A VENDOR FAIR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23 RD. FROM 7AM-2PM. THIS IS A MISSION FUNDRAISING EVENT. WE WILL HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF VENDORS WITH SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. SAUSAGE BISQUIT BREAKFAST AVAILABLE FROM 7-9AM. POTATOE SOUP LUNCH FROM 12-1PM. HOME MADE CAKES AND PIES FOR THANKSGIVING. SI- LENT AUCTION WITH FINAL BIDS AT 1:30PM. Reprinted from the Mission Echo. On behalf of the Education and Interpretation Committee, I am asking that each District President, District Education and Interpretation Coordinator and local organization, as in past years, work together to send or bring the following items for our five Missions: GIFT CARDS (identify the amount) POSTAGE STAMPS (new) USED POSTAGE STAMPS The gift cards and new postage stamps will be divided among our five Missions. The used postage stamps will be sent to the Marion Mission Storehouse in Marion, Indiana. They will help to defray the cost of sending large shipments to Africa with needed items for children. We challenge the Districts to match or increase their contributions from last year. Be sure to look for the marked, collection boxes in the same area where you will register. Your contributions are important. What this Conference does to support our five Missions is appreciated far beyond our act of giving. The Committee wishes to thank you for your continuing support. Education & Interpretation Susan H. Jones EXTENSION DEADLINE FOR SCCUMW CELEBRATION DAY IN HONOR OF OUR FIVE MISSION DIRECTORS In order for each SCC United Methodist Woman to have the opportunity to participate in the celebration of our Mission Directors at our Conference Annual Meeting in October, the deadline has been extended through the month of Sep-tember. Each local member has been invited to share an additional extra mile giving of $1.00. To this date, many have already done so; others have contributed an extra dollar or even more. We have over 16, 000 members in our Conference. Can you even begin to imagine what would happen if each member graciously shared $2.00? The extended deadline will allow those local organizations that would not meet over the summer the chance to participate. Local treasurers are asked to send the contributions to their District Treasurer. They will forward the monies to our Conference Treasurer. Our Mission Directors will be the recipients of a check with no strings attached. The presentations will take place during our Saturday morning business meeting. You don t want to miss what takes place during those special moments. Yes, our theme, It s All About Missions, - Part II will be another meaningful celebration time for our Mission Directors. Our random acts of kindness will help the Missions each serves so faithfully. On behalf of the Conference Education and Interpretation Committee, we encourage your support in honoring our Mission Directors. Your extra mile gift would mean so much to Christ s women, children and youth we serve.
