It ws fun meeting nd getting cquinted with their new "cousins" t the Fridy evening Welcome Reception, followed by very enjoyble dinner t the "Cheese Fctory" ner by. Sturdy morning our speker, Ernest Thode, ssisted by his wife, spoke on the Germn migrtions into erly Ohio. Doug Muck gve his nnul refresher course, 'DNA 1-01" (see Doug's column ). Wht nice su4rrise to see Jeff Mock drop in. He nd his wife were visiting their son in Michign nd Jeff decided to drive down for the morning meetings ( &hour drive). jeff lives in So. Cliforni nd is descendnt of Rudolph Muk. Sturdy fternoon Pt, who is volunteer t the Pltines toameric Lbrry, opened the librry for those of us who wnted to do some reserc.h. This is where Mrilyn cme cnoss the booklets of the MelvinSummers Mock reserch. She hs trnscribed the dt nd it cn be found on the Mock Internet. The Sundy morning meeting ws chnce to get together once more. One of the topics - "Do we wnt to do this gin next yet?" No conclusions, but if nyone is wilfing to host conference, plese let me know. Her immigrnt ncestor ws Johnnes Mck from Neckrtenzlingen. This ws Melb Muck Tlester's 2nd conference. Melb (Peter Muk of VA)lives in Fort Collins, CO. A true resercher, she ws on n extended cr trip, 3,000 miles. Also ttending were our long time fithfuls, Mrilyn & Jck Pohlmry Doug &In Muck nd the Dittigs. Y-DNA UPDATE Doug Muck We now hve 50 prticipnts in our project! I remember when we strted the project in2002, we worried tht we would hve difficulty getting the six prticipnts tht were required to get grcup discount! So f1 the project hs reveled severl items: 1. We discovered tht five of our prticipnts, who were strngers when the project strted re very closely relted through recent ncestor tht hs yet to be found on pper. In ddition, these five prticipnts disply the Jewish Kohenim Y-DNA pttern tht dtes bck to the priests of ncient Isrel! 2. We hve found mtches between ten of our prticipnts tht pprently connect bck to Rudolph Muck (d.1750 VA' Chrt 40) through different descendnts of Rudolph. The pper documenttion of the reltionship to Rudolph is still not foun4 but we know to keep looking. 3. One prticipnfs fmily lived close to Mock nd his mother lter mrried this Mock. The prticipnt herd rumorc for yers tht this Mock ws his true fther. He further stted tht if tht ws so, his Y-DNA would mtch certin line tht we hd lredy documented. When he took the DNA test, he ws not close to ny MOCK prticipnt, so he moved his results to his own MOTE- MOTES-MOAIS project. We currently hve people with summes other thn MOCK prticipting t our group rte with similr gols. 5. We hve hd some femle prticipnts who were ble to tke dvntge of our group rte to test their mternl heritge through mtdna nd others who hve submitted DNA smples to test their ethnic bckground through DNAPlus. DNAPlus mesures the mrkers tht one hs tht belong to Est Asiry Sub- Shr Africn, Europen, nd Ntive Americn popultions. 6. This Robrt leffuson Mock ws the missing link in our reserch. In the L850 census records we couldn't find CtherineAnn (Moore) Mock so we strted reserdringmrdges nd found tht she mrried John G. Fletcher. We reserched the 1860 census for John G. Fletcher nd there we found Ctherine Ann nd twoboys Ishm nd Robert. john G. Fletcher ws originlly mrried to Brbr Mrih Mock" sister to Ishm nd Roberfs dd Mthis Elmore Mock. So,Iohn G. Fletcher ws n uncle by mrrige. Ishm nd Robert werc rised by ohn G. I hve in my possession hnd pinted fmily tree mde in ffrcg!?) nd signed in the lower right corner by S.B. jordn whom I ssume ws the rtist/pinter of the tree. This ws pssed directly to me by my mothe4, Ethel Chloe Muck Felif from her grndfther's estte. I hd it restored by experts in Chicgo. At the time I received it, it ws so brittle tht it could brely be unrolled without crumbling. It ws flttene4 dened nd plced between mylr so tht it is well preserved for the future. The following informtion on this fmily chrt ws tken direcfly from the tree with three exceptions: L The deth dte of Jmes Muck ws tken from the ppers regrding the dministering of his estte. Our Lebnon Co., PA books re spt e/ so I used the census & soundex. In 1900, Rebecc (widowed) ws livingwithher sonin-lw, Abrhm Zern inheidlebergtwp, Leb non Co., PA. With 2 kides, both living. The 1,880 Soundex drew blnk, but since I looked for her frme-by-frme, I must hve missed it. Since she ws born in 1840, tht ws strting point for cen sus ge Census - Adm Mock, 35, Rebecc 2% Monroe4 1,850 Census - Adm 25, Rebecc 1"9, Monroe census - Rebecc lived on the frm of jcob (3S) nd Srh (29) Wengert with 3 brothers & 1 sister. 5 census pges wy lives Smuel Mock nd Mrth with 8 children. I've mde significnt mount of progress nd long the wy mde some educted guesses. Bsiclly, I've looked t the photos, tken dtes of birth nd deth down" figured out who ws with whom on the plots (s best I cn)nd then gone to the census to see if I cn come up with nmes of prents, children, dtes of birtlr, etc. Edn Mock (my grndmother knew her) provided informtion in 1936 gl"ing genelogy of the Mock fmily. Edn's informtion provided some of the bsis for verifiction on the informtion. She gve infonntion bout who in the Burkey fmily mrried Mocks nd who in the Mock fmily mrried Burkeys. She lso listed nmes of Smuel & Mrth Burkey Mock's childreru who they mrried (if she knew). Edn reported tht Smuel & Mrth hd L7 children, 1.1 of whom grew up.
