Another Adm Hysong (Hissoru Hisong; Hishong) hd pid txes in Hopewell Township for ech of the tx yers from 1804 through but this ws nother mn. The census for L8t0 1 lists Adm Hishong in Hopewell TwP. with he nd wife both over 45 yers old. But the Adm who begn pying txes in 1815 ws younger mn (2). In this report, he will be referenced s Adm(1795) Adm(1796) pid smll mount of tx in Woodberqy Twp., pprently s mrried mru ech tx yer from 18L6 through He ws never shown s "Single Freemn" which would indicte he ws mrried before the L815 tx yer; the yer he reched ge 21. In the 1820 census, he ppers with wife ged between t6to26 nd dughter less thn L0 yers. His ge shows s 25 to 45. He ws listed s frmer. Itis knownfrom deed records lterexecuted inohio tht Adrn(1796)'s wife ws nmed Ann. Mock Fmily records estblish this lso nd the Mock record sttes Adm(1796) nd Ann Mock mrried in PA (3). Absent documenttion of mrrige in Ohio, it is ssumed Adm(L796) mrried Ann Mock in Bedford Cq PA in bout Icob Mock(Mck), Ann Mock Flissong's ftheq, moved his fmily frombedford Co., PAto Knox Co., OH in bout L821. This could hve prompted Adm(7796) rld Ann to follow to nerby Richlnd Co. It ppers Adm(1796) nd fmily left Bedford Co, PAin lte 1823 or etly 1824 fter being txed there in On My 12, 1824,he purchsed from the U. S. government the Northwest Qurter of Section 31 in Worthington Twp. of Richlnd Co., Ohio. At the time of the purchse, Adm(1795) ws residing in Richlnd Co. The ptent for his L52 cres ws issued to him on September 20,1824 nd he ws the first to own lnd in tht section of the township. It would be lmost 25 yers before the villge of Independence (now Butler)ws founded. Adn(1796) is shown in the 1830 censuss with son, probbly lcob, who ws bornrc18246, dughte4 probbly Betsey Glizbeth), bornl8727 ge 5-1Q nd nother dughter ge L0-15 who is likely the dughteq, nme unknown, born before 1820 nd shown in the 1820 census s under 10 yers of ge. The other femle in the L830 census is ge whidr is not the correct ge to be Ad m(i796)' s wife Ann. Nor could Adm(17!)5) hve dughter tht ge. It is believed therefore tht the ge of his wife (Ann Mock) ws incorrectly noted. On September 13,1837, Ad,m(1796) nd his wife Ann sold 72 of. thefu 152 cres to ohn Hissongs. Ann's nme ws shown in the deed s"anny". A dughteq, Lovin, ws born to Adm(1796) nd Ann on nury 29,1839. The 1840 census shows them with the infnt dughteq, together with Betsey, ge bout 1& nd cob bout L5 nd nother mle, ge 2G30. The older mle could hve been "hired mn" who lived with them; prctice common in those dys. Living djcent to Adn(1796) nd Ann ws John S. Hissong nd his fmily; the sme John(1794l95) to whom they hd sold the 72 cres in On September 12th" 1839 Mrgret Hissong mrried Willim Smithll It ppers frcm the 1840 census they lived onthe otherside of Adm(1795)ndAnn wy from ohn S. Hissongls fmily. This Mrgret is believed likely to be the unidentified dughter of Adm(1795)nd Ann who ws shown in the 1820 Bedford Co. nd 1830 Richlnd Co. census (SeeAbove).Inthe 1&[0 RichlndCo., OH census, Willim nd Mrgret Smith were both shown s ge 2A40; no children. Onlnury $ t&tqadm(1795) purchsed 117 cres in the SE corner of Section 32 in Worthington Twp. il. The lnd hd been ptented in 1825 to Smuel Dunken of Somerset Co., PA. Adm(1795) nd Ann sold tht sme lnd to ]cob Grber on August 1st of the sme yert' Dvid Zook (who ws born in Germny nd hd mrried into the Mock fmily) cme from Bedford Co. to Richlnd Co., OH in bout He left there nd moved to Elkhrt Co., IN in Jcob Mock, Ann (Mock) Hissong's fthe+ followed with his fmily nd purchsed 80 cres in Elkhrt Co., IN on Mrch l't,l8/rs. Adm(17-95)nd Ann lso moved to Concord Twp, Elkhrt Co. bout tht sme time13 nd they probbly mde the trek together. Concord Twp., Elkhrt Co., IN records show mried Jmes Middleton on September 14th, mes ws born in Delwre nd ws brought to Ohio when one yer old in The L850 Census for Concord TWp, Elkhrt Co, IN shows Adm, Anno Jcob, nd Levin living in the sme house with Adm, Ann's dughter Betseyl nd her husbnd jmes Middleton. Also listed in this household is John Middleton, ge 2, born Indin, son of ]mes nd Betsey. There were three dditionl children; Jcob Smitlu ge 8, born in Ohio, Betsey Smith, ge 6 nd Nncy Smitlt ge 4, both girls born in Indinls. Summer 20(H Erly Pennsylvni Mgs Steoe Lpp To Steve frombrbr Diftig editor Steve, I'm once gin ttempting to updte the Working Chrts. ln Vol. n, #4, pg 54 ws query from Lois Flyte. She mentioned tht her husbnd's Wetzstein fmily is connected withthe Mgs through Isc Wetzsteinwho mrried Ann Mri M"g, d/o Icob nd Brbr Mg of PHL. I don t hve Jcob nd Brbr in the chrt #1. She mentions lvlmes tht re in the chrt, so think I my be missing Jcob. She lso mentions will for )cob Mg Sr. divided betweenlcob, s/ o Isc Wetstein nd two children of Conrd Mg. Hopefullyyou cn workyourmirdes nd come up with ll these nswers!! Hello Brbr The problem with this Mg fmily in Phildelphi is tht too mny people hve jumped to too mny condusions -nd I believe inccurte informtion hs been published in prior issues of MFH. For instnce, I think Bill Young ws in error in the chrt he submitted to the MFH Spring 2002 issue, pge 18. I think more correct chrt should show tht ]cob Mg nd Ann Surber were prents of Henry b.1723, nd Conrd born The following info. from Mike Mok I believe is correct. I m ve{y fmilir with Mike's work, nd he is usully very ccurte. From Mike Mok to Steve Lpp Re: Phildelphi Mgs I hve been ble to (circumstntilly) find one fmily from Btilch prish tht ended up in Pennsylvni. According to Fust, in 1743 ]cob Mg, resin scrpet left Eschenmosen with his wife, three sons, nd two dughters. There ws only one Mg fmily in Eschenmosen t tht time: cob Mg nd Ann Surbeq, nd children Hns Heinrich (L722), Heinrich (L723), Dorothe (1725), Ann Mri (7729), Hns Conrd, (1730), Brbr (L732),Hns Mrthi(1734), Hnsfcob (1735), nd Ann(1737). Brbr Diftig of the Mock Fmily Historin shows fmily, tht includes Heinrich, Conrd nd Brbr tht lived nd mrried in Phildelphi from the 1750s on" tht she proposes re relted to the cob, Heinrich, nd Hns Heinrich Mg tht rrived in Phildelphi in 1743 on the Loyl ]udith. Fhis mkes (circumstntil) sense - ]cob, the fthe4 nd two sons, Hns Heinrich (ge 2L) nd Heinrich (ge 20) were the mles in the group over ge 16. The next sorj Hns Conrd, ws only 13.] Here's the info tht I hve: Jcob Mg of Endhtiri, Ziirich, Switzerlnd, m.25 Mr Ann Surber of Endhdri. Thisrecord shows one more dughter thnfust lists. There is one urredble spot in the microfilm of the deth register t the strt of 1743 tht hs bout 4 entries. Or perhps Dorothe styed in Switzerlnd nd mrried (she ws 78-1" I 2 in Oct 1743) lthough there is no enty for the mrrige of Dorothe Mg betweenl7fi0 nd1746.i I hve not been ble to follow this fmily bck. Ann is the only child born in Eschenmosen" ll the others were born in Endh<iri (nerby in the sme prish - Biilch). fcob nd Ann were nuuried in1721, nd there re no certin connections for cob in Endhtiri before tht. The Phildelphi Reformed Church record entry, tht sttes tht Jcob died 18 My 7767 t ge 61 yers nd 3 months, plces his birth in Feb1705. Jcob died in 1810, his wife Elizbeth died in 1828, his son, Adm died young in 1835, nd Adm's wife Rebecc died in ll in Union twp., Berks Co, PA. cob nd Elizbeth's children were born in the Berks/ Chester Co. vicinity in the ltter 1700s to the turn of the 1-9th century. Their nmes include lohn" Icob fr., Rebecc (mrried Smuel Richrds), Cthrine (mrried john GriffitD, Srh" nd the two youngest sons, Mtthis nd Adm (born perhps bout 1802). Mny of these fmilies cn be trced living ner one nother in the southern Berks/northern Chester Co. re frcm 1790 to 185O nd in the cse of some of Oliver's fmily into the 1.900s. The 8 childrcn nmed in Ctherine Mock Whitker's Will were: Mri Wittkeq, ulinn Wittkeq Jonthon Wittker, Joseph Wittker, Henry Wittker, Smuel Wittker, Amos Wittker, Peter Wittker I m from the distff side of the fmily, so to spek, but I wnted to sk if you hd ny informtion bout or people interested in Ctherine Muk/l\dock of Bedlord County, PA (180&1888). Her prents were Peter Jr. nd Ctherine (Gm) Mock of Reynoldsdle. Ctherine nd my gret-gret-grndfther, Mrkle Whitker ( ), were mrried in bout 1830 nd divorced? by L845 or so, when he went to Steubenville, OH, becme 'Old Mrk Whitker" nd lived with his brother Hirm Whitker for time before remrrying in 184t. They both were sons of Joseph nd Ctherine (Mrkle) Whitker of Chester Co. nd trined in blcksmithing. Mrk rrely gve informtion bout his prentge, so he might hvebeen hiding in plin sight. Itis difficult to know just wht ws going on! Anywy, Ctherine Muk/Mock Whitker lmost lwys ws referred to s widow, but the truth ws he bndoned her nd their nine young children The fmily story from my mle Whitkers ws tht Ctherine ws "shre$/' nd he hd left her; the femle story ws tht she hd died nd he left the children with reltives nd heded West... She nd the children styed in Bedford Co. nd she must hve been destifute, s we know from the fine reserch of direct Whitker-Muk/lVlock descendnt, Phyllis Wnthurst. It is interesting tht they both died in I do not know if Mrkle kept in touch or ever tried to help; it is thought tht some of the children visited him from time to time or moved to Ohio in dulthood.i do nothve lot on his first fmily; only the second fmily of 13 children, one of whom ws my gret-grndfther. Mrk ws mrried for 40 yers to his second wife, Elizbeth Tirrnbull ( ) ys, those dtes re correct, she ws very young whenthey - met!and he ws pillrof the cornmunity... Mrk must hve divorced Ctherine in PA before he left or soon fter he got to Ohio. I donit think he would hve gotten wy with deceit/ bigmy for tht long since the court noted tht he ws "free of encumbrnces to mtryl" We hve not found the records for the divorce, however. I just wnted to thnk you for this fine Web site nd shre some interesting Mock genelogy with you. I do not hve much on Ctherine, nd wht I hve hs just been discovered by me on-line..
