8 38 MOCK FAMILY HISTORIAN volume vl. NO.3'SUMMER 1997 Corections - Found by Gene Mock nd submitted by Steve Lpp regrdingjohn Mck The birth dte for tohn Mck in the 'Tunker" genelogies hs the sme birth dte (but one yer off), ieth dite nd deth plce s the John Mock, son of 'Sol dier" George Mck/Mock The primry source of the Alexnder Mck fmily chrts il Rev. Freemn Ankrum's 1943 book, "Alexnder Mck the Tunket nd Descendnts"' I quote from pge 55: 'The children born to Willim nd Agn"t Gniz Mck were: Jcob, first born, b. 29 Aug 1773 ner Wynesboro, PA; ohn Mck d- Oct 14,1f365 t the ge of 85y. 11m.11 d. in Tippecnoe church district, kosciusko Co., IN". By my count tht puts this ohn McKs birthdte pretty close to 3 Nov 128' I seems to me tht Rev. Ankrum ws in error when he nmed this John Mck s son of Willim nd Agnes. The prentge of the John Mck b- 3 Nov 1779 is confirmed in records of Christ Luthern Church, York PA s being George Mck nd Ev. nd like vou sid I don't think Ankrum knew bout the churlh records. Thnk you, Gene, for pointing out this error' I think tht mybe ohn McKs ge ws yer off on his tombstone. o Steve Lpp Correction for Moses Mock Jr. Fmily of Dvidson County NC (Working Chrt #19) Moses Mock b. 18 Sep 1826 ws the son of Moses nd Jne (Willims)Mock This Moses mrried Nncy Sophroni Doughterty King in Arknss nd died in Fvetteville There is list of children ttributed to him in the "Working Chrt" tht should be corrected since it could be misleding to future genertions of reserchers. With the exception of Frnk Moses Mock b.1871; d.1879, the reminder of the children belong to Alfred R. King nd his wife Nncy Sophroni ( who mrried Moses Mock fter the deth of her husbnd when Moses ws 44). This informtion is clerly stted on the 1860 census of Bolivr Twp., efferson Co., Arknss. Mock Historin, Gene Mock sent gret del of helpful informtion to me. One reference concerned informtion given by Moses Mock's stepdughter, Isbell King, in which she sid tht "out of fmily of nine children, eight hd preceeded her. Gene sys tht he cn only ccount for six children. I believe tht the two dditionl children were Moses Mock's only biologicl children (who survived childhood) by previous mrrige to ZilPh IleY. Moses Mock nd Zilph Iley were mrried in Frnklin Co., GA nd migrted to Corinth, Tishomingo Co, GA where both of their sons were born: Willim Polk Mock in1847 nd fohn Thoms Mock in Feb. of (During 1850 Moses trveled first to Frnklin Co., AR where he shows up s stying in the household of the Smiths. He then trveled on to Hill Co., TX where he brought his fmily to live' Zilph died in Hill Co,TX in (Note tht Moses Mock does not show up on the 1850 Arknss Census which indictes tht rticles written bout his hving been citizen of tht stte during his entire dulthood re not ccurte). Moses returned to Corinth, Tishomingo Co., MS where Civil Wr documents in my possession sy he ws conscripted into the First Arknss Mounted Rifles in Miy Records in Arknss lso show tht he ws conscripted t Corinth into this unit. During the wr yers his sons, Willim nd ohn, were living intexs with reltives. f hve in my possession documents written by Willim Polk Mock to the Dept. of Interior, Commission of the Five Civilized Tribes (his wife ws Cherokee) stting tht his prents were Moses nd Zllph Mock. He sttes tht he ws born in 1826 in North Crolin nd tht his fther ws born in NC- I m of the firm opinion tht this Moses Mock is my ncestor. I don't knorv if this is enough evidence for others, but I do think tht future reserchers might wnt to be wre of this connection.. Gyl Wilson ( member of the Mock Discussion Group). No ddress vilble. 9 VOLUME VI. NO.3. FALL 1997 MOCK FAMILY HISTORIAN 39 ST. PAUL EVANGELICAT CHURCH RECORDS OF STRASBURG, VA Submitted by Ron Moore ',nlvn Sonne/s Web Pge with the Strsburg VA t St Pul's Evngelicl Luthern Church Records \zws rccently locted by Steve Lpp. While in Virgini lst October, I stopped by this old church nd tried to contct someone bout the records, but the church clerk ws not in nd I didn't go bck. It ws very interesting to see the tombstones round the church nd I recognized mny of the fmilir nmes of neighbors of Peter nd fulin Muck on Toms Brook, such s Funkhousers nd Wendels. JP [Mockl pprently locted prtil group ofthe records on microfilm for this church t the Hndley Librry t Winchester, VA. Mnyof them were written in Germn nd difficult to red. These re truly gret records nd some we hve been serching for long time. Needless to sy, I mde copy nd now hve new 39 pge book! These records will help to supplement others we hve such s the john Csper Stoever Luthern records. Severl erly Muk fmilies in the Northern Shenndoh Vlley ttended this church. I hve identified records from the Peter nd lulin (Rhinehrt) Muck line, the George nd Sophi Mock/Muck line nd the Frederick nd Motlen Muk line, nd there my be some more. A couple of interesting records were list of those confirmed t Holy Communion held 22 Sep 1776 tht notes Andres Mck going on ge 16. This would put his dte of birth precisely t 176\ s Steve hd previously clculted from Revolutionry Wr Pension Records. This is the Andrew Muck/ Muk/Mock who ws in Rown Co.,NC in 1785 when he purchsed lnd from Csper Seiry nd lter ws in Sullivn Co, TN where he died. On the sme pge nd lso confirmed t the sme Holy Communion on 22 Sep 1776 ws Susnnh Mck who ws going on ge 17. This would put her dte of birth t Steve nd I hve speculted for yers tht Peter nd Julin Muck must hve hd other children not mentioned in Peter's will, nd I do believe this Susnn to be likely cndidte for their dughter, nd probbly sister to Andrew. There ws nother Susnn Mock who ws lso confirmed 11 Jun 1797 t the ge of L5. She ws the dughter of George nd Sophi Mock, but she would hve been born in 1782, so this Susnn who ws confirmed in 7775 is distinctly different person since the other Susnn ws not even born yet. Another interesting record ws tht of Julin Mgin who ttended Holy Communion 26 Apr This ppers to be very likely, Julin (Rhinehrt) Muck, the widow of old Peter Muck who died in 177'1..lt is remotely possible tht one of the sons of Peter nd fulin Muck could hve hd dughter by the nme of julin, but this seems unlikely since ll of the sons of Peter nd ulin Muck hd moved wy from there except for John Much nd I hve not run cross notherjulin Muck i..y of his son's fmilies or in Mr. Willim Wolph's book on the Peter Muck line. Some hve thought tht Peter Muck my hve hd t lest two mrriges, but hve discussed the likelihood tht there ws only one mrrige to Julin Rhinehrt who ws first mentioned in the mrrige records of Rev. fohn Csper Stoever, but in the will of Peter Muck nd in subsequent deeds, her nme ws given s Leonh Muck. I personlly believe tht Leonh ws relly vrition of the nme of fulin, nd tht this 1795 church record, could very likely be ulin, the widow of Peter Muck who survived him fter deth. There re lot of other events in these records tht re of interest in the vrious erly Muck fmilies in this re, nd to iust mention few, there is the exct birth dte of Mri Hite 21 Sep 1770, the future wife of Dniel Mock who ws the son of George nd Sophi Mock. It is of interest tht she ws bptized when she ws 19, on 14 ul 1790 nd her fther ws nmed s Alexnder Heidt nd mother, Elisbeth. She mde her own confession to the church. Her nme ws spelled s Mri Heldin, but I m sure this should hve been Mri Heidtin. Mry Hite mrried Dniel Muk 8 Feb 1796 in Shenndoh Co.,VA Severl of their children's bptisml records re lso in this church. Another interesting record ws to find evidence tht t lest some of the Lockmillels ttended this church. There ws record of Holy Communion on 11 fune 1797 where Elisbeth Lockmulleriry wife of ]oh. Lockmuller, ge 24 yers, who through the influence of her prents chnged over to the Dunkers or Seven Dyers, but then she discovered it ws mistke nd she cme bck to the Evngelicl Church nd she publicly mde her vows. A ) In Vitgini ws written by M'S' Kincheloe 8 August 1937 for the nnul fmily reunion in Dmscus, VA. From Ron Moore to Shirley: I m hppy tht you clrified the origin of this pper. I've often wondered if this ws prt of lrge book. Your detils bout it being printed for fmily reunion relly mkes sense. It hi been pssed round between Mock reserchers now for mny yers. As fr s I cn tell, M.S. Kincheloe's pper is the erliest reference I hve found (1937) for the three brother theory. He nmes Peter, John nd Alexnder s three brothers who immigrted on the Ship St. Andtew in1752. I nd others hve hunted high nd low for Alexnder nd we hve never found evidence tht he ever existed. If he did, I woulci like someone to point him out to me. It is my personl belief tht some of the erly Mock reserchers my hve confused him with Alexnder Mck who immigrted in1728on the Ship Allm to Phildelphi with his fmily nd who ws the founder of the Brethren Church in Americ' One of his sons ws lso nmed Alexnder. I know tht it's like ttcking pple pie nd motherhood when Person strts questioning trditiory but to me, I like to see the proof nd I like to help stimulte other people to think. In recent yers, some hve rised doubts tht the John Mck/ Mock who died in Berks Co,PA in 1784 ws brother to Peter Mock who ws supposed to hve been mrried to Brbr Mrtin nd who ws the erly Peter Mock in NC, probbly rriving there in the erly 1760's. A fir mount of circumstntil evidence is icumulting tht this Peter Mock my be son of Peter nd Julin Muck of Toms Brook, VA, lthough he is not mentioned in Peter's 7771' Fredeick Co.,VA will.i relly don't know the nswer to these questions but m wiiting to keep my mind open on the issue until I cn see more Persusive proof in ny direction.
