Only John Hancock actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, All the others signed later. 3. In 1776, there were 2.5 million people living in the new nation. Today the population of the U.S.A. is 316 million. 4. The average age of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence was 45. The youngest was Thomas Lynch, Jr (27) of South Carolina. The oldest delegate was Benjamin Franklin (70) of Pennsylvania. The lead author of The Declaration, Thomas Jefferson, was One out of eight signers of the Declaration of Independence were educated at Harvard (7 total). 6. The only two signers of the Declaration of Independence who later served as President of the United States were John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. 7. The stars on the original American flag were in a circle so all the Colonies would appear equal. 8. Every 4th of July the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is tapped (not actually rung) thirteen times in honor of the original thirteen colonies.
2 LIFE ON THE KINGDOM ROAD As I sit here in my new home surrounded by boxes I am experiencing many emotions. It s been a long couple of weeks packing and unpacking, travelling back and forth to Warren, and generally wearing myself out. But as I sit here, there is a great sense of anticipation and excitement, too. I know without a doubt that there is unlimited potential in what God can do here at KUMC. The amazing thing is that we get to participate in whatever God has planned! I have no idea what that is yet, but I get excited thinking about where we are headed. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 289:11, NIV) I don t know you yet. However, that s about to change. In the weeks ahead I am going to try and meet with as many of you as possible. I want to hear your stories, your hopes, and your dreams for KUMC. Beginning July 5 th I will try to schedule time each day to meet with at least one of you. Please be patient if you re not first I promise you ll get time with me! In the meantime, if you need to reach me immediately, please feel free to call my cell phone. My number is I have that with me 24/7, and I will do my best to make myself available to you. Let me change gears here, though While we may not know you yet, my wife (Danielle) and I are extremely grateful for what you ve already done for us. We arrived at the parsonage last week to find a bathroom that was gutted to the studs and ready for a total makeover. It was finished today and it is beautiful! We are so happy to be part of a church family that seeks to care for their pastor. After we get settled in and Danielle arrives (after finishing her summer session at The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in mid August) we will have an open house so you can see for yourself where your investment has gone. You will be very pleased! We hope to see you this weekend in worship. Danielle will be able to be with us this week, so you ll meet both of us. As I close, please know that I am already praying for you. I would humbly ask that you do the same for my family. In His Service, Rich
