1 ROLLA/PERTH PARISH APRIL But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; 12 and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 They said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him. John 20:11-13 Dear friends in Christ, So much of life seems to be involved in our dealing with transitions. Throughout our years we move from one stage to another, from one condition to another, from one situation to another. Sometimes we go from one condition to another only to go back again to the same first condition or to an entirely new or similar state of being for instance, from good health to illness and being cured, back to good health. Or negatively, we may go from disease to cure to relapse or to another disease. There are sometimes cycles to life, an example of which is the turn of seasons: winter to spring (ain t it glorious?) to summer to autumn back to winter. Once in a while, we may get the dreaded feeling that the transition is ONE WAY, no turning back. This I believe is the greatest fear regarding death that we go only in a linear fashion from living to dying and stop there, not coming back or going anywhere else. It is why all cultures develop some sort of mythology regarding an afterlife. For it seems the greatest impact of a transition from life to death is expressed by the grief of those left behind, their own transition being from life with to life without those they love. This is where Mary Magdalene is at on Easter. She ponders an empty tomb, and feels that she is robbed of even the closure and perhaps the consolation of seeing Jesus remains. Her culture by and large does not believe in an immediate transition to another life except possible in a far off future when God acts at the end of time. She feels hopeless at a personal level. And then a stranger (a gardener?) calls her by name. And then the transitions explode! Death to life, despair to hope, grief to joy, defeat to victory, bitter tears to warm love! What happens when God calls YOUR name? HAPPY EASTER!!!! Pastor Mark

Correspondence: Circulated and discussed as needed. OLD BUSINESS: Senior meals: Gail Meier and Fern Simons Lenten suppers: Mar.10 th Act. Group 2; Mar.17 th Church Council; Mar. 24 th Act. Group 3. March project: Dakota Prairie Community Action Council member: Welcomed Mary Boe to the WELCA council. NEW BUSINESS: April project: Health kits. Chms. Kristin Mitchell, Sandy Berg Honoring HS seniors: May 2 nd, Fellowship Dinner. Renae, Mary and Marge to decorate. Cake to be ordered. VBS: June 1 June 4 th with Metigoshe Ministries. Renae to contact SS to offer WELCA support for VBS LWR boxes: Dates May 17 May 21 st. Youth: Marge to contact youth to offer support to youth. It s unusual, unconventional, uncomparable and unbelievable! What should you expect? Do you want to meet some new friends, strengthen your faith, jump into a lake after taking a sauna and meet a counselor who can t wait to find out what an awesome person you are? You can expect all of these things and more. You will not believe how so much fun, learning and fellowship can be squeezed into one week! Clarification and information on Our Savior s policy, scholarships, dates of camps are: PIONEERS: For students entering 6 th or 7 th grade (fall 2010). Parents are asked to pay the $50.00 registration fee, Our Savior s offers scholarships because our VBS does include this age group. Pioneers I June 20 th June 25 th ; Pioneers II- Aug. 1 st - Aug. 6 th ; Pioneers III Aug.8 th Aug. 13 th HOMESTEAD CAMPS: For students entering 7 th or 8 th grade (fall 2010). Parents are asked to pay the $50.00 registration fee, scholarships from Our Savior s available for one week of camp. Homestead I - July 11 th -July 14 th ; Homestead II - July 25 th - July 28 TH DISCOVERS CAMPS: For students entering 8 th, 9 th or 10 th grade (fall 2010). Parents are asked to pay the $50.00 registration fee, scholarships from Our Savior s available for one week of camp. Discovers I - June 20 th June 25 th ; Discoverers II-July 18 th -July 23 rd ;Discoverers III Aug.8 th -Aug.13 Infinity camp July 18 th - July 23 rd Confirmation camp- June 27 th July 2 nd YOU MAY REGISTER ONLINE or ON A PAPER REGISTRATION FORM. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE CHURCH OFFICE IS NOTIFIED OR YOUR COMPLETED REGISTRATION BROUGHT TO THE CHURCH OFFICE BY APRIL 9 TH (TO RECEIVE THE $10.00 DISCOUNT PER STUDENT.) WE NEED TO KNOW WHO AND WHEN STUDENTS WILL BE ATTENDING CAMP SO REGISTRATIONS AND SCHOLARSHIPS CAN BE MAILED AND NO ONE WILL BE MISSED. Each kit needs a hand towel, a washcloth, bath-size soap, toothbrush, comb, metal nail file or nail clipper with file, 6 ½ or ¾ inch band aids. All donations may be left in the Narthex. Chms. 5 SUMMARY OF OUR SAVIOR S CHURCH COUNCIL MEETINGS March 8, 2010 Meeting was called to order by President Tim Mickelson. Members present: Tim Mickelson, Pat Disrud, Craig Leas, Marilynn Randa, Kathy Rohlfing, Gar Wiedrich, Pastor Mark. Absent: Fay Langseth, Bret McCloud.Devotions by Pastor Mark. Agenda approved, Secretary report approvedtreasurer report approved. Need to update signature on checking account. Committee Reports: Property: Software program ordered for Bell Tower, may need a new amplifier. Evangelism: Discussed training sessions for parish calling program, church sign if time of worship changes, Our Savior s brochure in final format, etc. Parish Ed.: SS sent $85.00 to LAMP; raised $50.00 for Haiti, SS will sing on Palm Sunday Worship: Meeting on March. 16 th to plan April worship services. Youth, Stewardship: no reports Mission: Lenten offerings for Lake Region, Metigoshe Ministries and Dakota Prairie Memorial: Thank you sent to LaRon Kroft for memorial for Roger Wavra.
