I am referring not only to the season of spring and its multitude of greens, but to the long, liturgical season of Ordinary Time (whose color is green), which begins following Trinity Sunday on May 22 and extends to the first Sunday in Advent. For years I thought that "ordinary time" in the church meant that time that was not in the special holiday seasons of Advent or Easter or Pentecost. I thought ordinary meant "not special." Later I learned that ordinary referred to "ordinal" as in ordinal numbers. For in Ordinary Time the Sundays are identified simply by their numbers. The coming months at Peace UCC, however, will be special (not ordinary in the common sense) this year. The first Sunday in June will mark one year since I began as your "fill-in -for the summer" interim minister. Our work together has expanded and changed with the seasons and will continue to do so as the needs of the church shift and change. The church council is taking on getting our administrative records in order. This work might include reviewing the constitution and bylaws and updating them to better reflect how the church operates today, reviewing policies and procedures and updating them when advisable, reviewing membership rolls, and generally getting our files and records in order. I will certainly help where I can, and I am sure that congregation members will be called upon as well to help with certain tasks as well. I can assure you, your new minister will be deeply grateful to begin his or her ministry with orderly files and systems in place and recently reviewed policies and updated by-laws enacted. Your new minister will be able then to focus on getting to know you and the community rather than getting bogged down in sorting out administrative tangles. I am blessed and grateful for our year of ministry together and look forward to continuing our work together preparing for your new minister during this not-very-ordinary Ordinary Time. Thank You - A BIG BIG Thank you to Dale Lenger for the shelves in the closet in the kitchen. - Ladies Circle We would like to thank our church family for the kindness you have shown us when our mother, Hazel Norris, passed away in April. The Caring Committee sent numerous cards to mom after she was home bound and then in the nursing home. Thanks so much for the cards to us, the food for the funeral meal, and the memorial contributions after her passing. A special thank you to Rev. Collette Jones for the nice service, and to Vera Jean, Janet Beckmeyer, and Brenda Reeder for the beautiful music. - Twyla Bennett, Jo Hackman, and Sharon Noble Church Work Day A small but mighty force gathered at church on Saturday May 7 for a morning of cleaning, weeding, and organizing! With perfect weather, Cindy Glascock, Dale & Nancy Lenger, and Fred & Lorie Klippel worked in various areas of the church. One major accomplishment was the addition of shelving into the storage area between the kitchen and bathroom then the thorough cleaning of that area and reorganization and ability to store more on the shelves leading to more storage in the kitchen. Other accomplishments included removing 2 bushes that were damaging the foundation and siding, weeding and cleaning flower beds, cleaning the acolyte closet, and removing an accumulation of trash from the upstairs youth/archive room. The trash bins were overflowing so trips during the week were made to the Lenger & Klippel home so that the church trash service wouldn t be overwhelmed. The upstairs youth/ archive room still has a number of furniture pieces that need to be removed when we can get a dump trailer to take them away! Thanks for all your hard work, and for those who missed out, we still have that upstairs furniture to remove plus, in the fall, we have the two trees on either side of the entryway to prune. 2

3 Christmas In July With Every Child s Hope We will be collecting items for the ECH Christmas Store Throughout July. The Christmas Store at ECH is a major shopping stop for the kids at ECH. Gifts that the youngsters choose are generously donated by United Church of Christ congregations. Because you choose to give, so, in turn, can the children.
