6 PAGE 6 MAY NEWSLETTER Church Council Minutes Members in attendance: Lisa Brady Rick Ike David Fogt Dave Bell Cheryl Pulfer Jerry Pleiman Carol Bodenhorn Jim Brandt Deb Christman Excused Members: Kim Klopfleisch Keith Elsass Ann Huffman Listening for God s Guidance The meeting was called to order by President Jim Brandt. Secretary s Report Devotional by Jim Brandt Roll Call was taken. The minutes from the March 19, 2017 meeting were reviewed. Dave Bell moved and Carol Bodenhorn seconded to accept the Secretary s Report. Motion passed. Financial Secretary s Report For March, 2017, the Current Offering was $17, and the Benevolence Offering was $1, The Capital Campaign collected $1, Jerry Pleiman moved and Dave Bell seconded to accept the Financial Secretary s report. Motion passed. Treasurer s Report For March, 2017 the receipts were $18, and expenses were $7, for a positive difference of $10, This brings the Year-to-Date receipts to $56, and the expenses to $39, for a positive difference of $16, David Fogt moved and Rick Ike seconded to accept the Treasurer s Report. Motion passed. Offering Our Gifts and Talents Trustee s Report Jerry Pleiman reported that the church bus is still at the repair shop. They are waiting on the new door. He will contact the shop this week to get an update. The basement door is ok and there is nothing new to report about the display cabinet. We have received 3 quotes for the installation of a Security System. Low Voltage s quote is $4,444.14; Miami Valley Security s quote is $3,290.65; C. J. Electric s quote is $13,900. All three companies were asked to quote the same thing, so the large difference in the one quote is puzzling. Jerry would like to consult with Jeff Bertke to get his thoughts about the quotes. Jerry has not heard from the organ repair company, so he will call them again to schedule the maintenance that we need. Jerry noted that the lights on the ramp leading into church are very dim. He offered to look into quotes for a bright light that is erected on a pole near the prayer garden. This will offer more light and better safety and security when people are coming and going at night. The tent that is erected at the cemetery for Easter sunrise service was discussed. The fee we are currently charged is only $25, but in the future we should consider paying them more. It is a lot of work for little bit of money and it requires working on a holiday (the tent has to be taken down on Sunday). Dave Bell presented information concerning mulching around the church. The Anna Football Boosters are interested and would charge $35 per yard (this includes delivery). The football team will spread the mulch for an additional $25 per yard. Dicke s is cheaper per yard, but we would have to pay for delivery. We will probably need 12 yards of mulch. A suggestion was made that maybe we could consider just fluffing the mulch that we already have using pitchforks, rakes, etc. There is a lot of mulch out there in some spots (maybe too much). There are a couple of areas around the church that need new mulch. So maybe those areas get new mulch and the other areas get fluffed. The trustees will investigate. Pastor Althauser s name still appears on the old church sign on the south side of the parking lot. Council decided to wait to remove his name until after we call a new Pastor. The grass has been sprayed around the church and Jerry noted that there are some areas at the cemetery which will be sprayed also. Carol Bodenhorn moved and Rick Ike seconded to accept the Trustees Report. Motion passed.
7 MAY 2017 PAGE 7 Church Council Minutes-cont Deacon s Reports The Parish Ed committee reported that the 5th and 6th grade bunny chow fundraiser for Hayden Weiskittel was a big success. The class is currently working on setting up a project with Children s Hospital in Dayton. On April 2 nd the class had a mock last supper with foods that Jesus and the disciples would have eaten. It was very well received. The Luther League will be putting together a list of Sophomore through Senior students who would like to go to the Youth Gathering next year. Senior Quilts are at various stages of completion. Vacation Bible School preparations are under way and the Parish Ed Committee plans to purchase a Chrome Book to be used by the Sunday School classes. The Worship Team reported that they are been working on picking out hymns and Supply Pastors for upcoming services. There will not be a Choir Sunday and Confirmation will be on June 4 th. The Vision Development Team reported that they have been discussing Catechism Class and Call Committee issues. The Benevolence/Christian Action Team reported that they will be meeting soon. The Evangelism Team had nothing new to report. Jerry Pleiman moved and Dave Bell seconded to accept the Deacon s Reports. Motion passed. Pastor s Report There was no Pastor s Report. Continuing Business David Fogt gave Council a Call Committee update. The first meeting with Jeff Wick is set and there are nine committee members total. The committee consists of David Fogt, Roger Lentz, Matt Himmeger, Jeremey Kipp, Donna Russell, Karla Pleiman, Leslie Heintz, Chloe Spence, and Morgan Meyer. Team Hayden is still working hard to raise money for Hayden Weiskittel s heart transplant expenses. Different groups are coming up with different ideas to fundraise. The church rental form is being updated by Cheryl. She is removing items from the list that are no longer available for rent and she s updating the pricing and wording. New Business The refurbished church bus will be entered into the Anna Homecoming Parade on June 17 11:30am. A person has been lined up to help the church with payroll needs. We also now have a state tax ID number for future payroll tax purposes. Envisioning Business The next regularly scheduled Council Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 11:15am. Respectfully Submitted, Lisa Brady Attention all Luther Leaguers 9th through 12 th grade There is a sign- up sheet at the back of the church under the This Changes Everything poster for those interested in attending the 2018 National Youth Gathering in Houston Texas. If you meet the age requirement and are interested in attending please sign up including your cell phone number so we can contact you about the time and place of an informational meeting. We are not looking for a firm commitment at this time we are just attempting to get an idea of the level of interest.
