Has the time been a charm for you? How are you doing with what you ve given up for lent? Are you struggling? Stay tough and know that discipline can help strengthen your faith. The old phrase- The third time s a charm refers to the idea that although we may not get something right on the first try, if we keep working at something- eventually we will get it right. If lent did not start well for you then start all over. Persistence is the key for the season of lent and for life in general. Those who give up easily generally have a frustrating life. But those who persist at getting things right are faithful to hard work. The Catholic faith is looked upon by many, especially the media, as out of date and judgmental. Our beliefs on abortion, contraception, homosexuality, marriage, the male priesthood, etc. are always criticized. But we remain standing and uncompromising about our doctrine. If you want to be a devout Catholic, then you have to realize one basic fact that the media and most critics just don t understand about the Catholic faith. Are you ready? Here is that basic fact: Being a devout Catholic is hard! It is difficult. It takes great discipline and great sacrifice. In our technological age in which things are made a lot easier, the teachings of the Catholic Church would appear to be way too hard. The Apostles had a hard time with the fact that Jesus had to suffer and die before the glory of Easter came. It was so hard to take, but eventually they realized why it had to be. Lent is a season that involves us losing ourselves in the love and mercy of God and taking those difficult steps that eventually lead us to the glory of Easter. How many steps will it take? One, two, three? The answer is whatever it takes! God Bless!!! Fr. Chris
