8 Dear Companions, To start this new year in Capitular Masonry, please let us thank God for all He has blessed us with, and most importantly for letting us live in a place where we can belong to this wonderful fraternity. Next, I would like to take the time to thank all the Companions mentioned in this letter. All of them have devoted their time to work and serve the Grand Chapter and all its members for the next year. Everyone is known by their comrades as very hard and dedicated workers. This year we continue to follow the program started by Past Grand High Priest Don Powell, Tracks We Leave. This program has only done us well, so I really hope that more Chapters will make every effort to complete the requirements for the Plague. The requirements are difficult because they require many members of the Chapter to get involved. So please remember, the best way to keep our members is to make every meeting interesting and worth their time. All of the Area Meetings are listed in this letter. So this means every High Priest, King, and Scribe should attend their Area Meeting. I ask every Dais Officer of each Chapter to attend and try to bring along as many Companions with them as possible. May we all remember during this next year that we all need to work together to make sure we have Capitular Masonry to enjoy in the future. This means everyone needs to stay devoted, turn off your TV, and attending and taking part of all the meetings of our Chapters. Thank you for offering me the chance to serve this year, and I can only hope that I see many of you at the various events and meetings during this next year. Fraternally, Gary K. Hunt M.E. My year as Grand High Priest has enriched my life through my service to you and the Grand Chapter of Kentucky. Area Meeting The Grand Line attended 9 Area Meeting I would like to thank each Chapter that Hosted the Area Meetings. Area Meeting Attendance Summary of Major Programs This year as I started my year as Grand High Priest, we changed area meetings from Saturdays to a regular stated meeting night, to help in attendance that was a big help. As I started my year as Grand High Priest the programs I talked about in the area meetings, were the Tracks We Leave, Membership, Lodge Presentations, Mentorship, New Membership Handbook, at each area meeting we talked about each one of these in a Positive way, I urged each Chapter to get the plaque from the Tracks We Leave Program, and we have 1 to receive it this year, Greensburg Chapter #36. I spoke many times about Membership, passed out literature of the lodge presentation, and asked that Companions go to the blue Lodges and promote York Rite Masonry, that s were our future membership for the York Rite can be found. I along with other members of the Grand Line have this year promoted the Membership Program and asked that when the new Companions come into the Chapter that they appoint someone to be a Mentor to that Companion. This program will develop a more educated member while preparing them to assume officer stations in the future. This year as I was filling appointments I spoke to Jim Wall about the position as (State R.A.R.A Director) He suggested that I find a younger person to serve in this position, so I appointed James G. Hogue as State Executive, R.A.R.A. Director, I would like to thank Mr. Jim Wall for his 30 plus years of service to Capitular Masonry. This year the cups sales for R.A.R.A. totaled $ At my Reception, it was said if I wore a dress that there would some additional monies raised for R.A.R.A. I put that dress on and $ was raised, making a total of $ and other gifts were made, we continue to promote and hope that you will do the same. Festivals I have also promoted New Membership Handbook, which the secretary fills out as the new Member goes through the degrees, and is given to the Companion when he completes his work. To aid in this task, I recommended that The New Member Handbook be used to assist these new men in their path. The New Member handbook is also available online at under the section of Downloadable Forms. This information is all available on the York 17 As I traveled around the State I was asked about festivals for Membership so we had several Festivals. I am proud to report the success of the one day festivals during the past year. These festivals have shown what I have believed all along, no matter what the adversity, we united together can overcome an obstacle. When our bodies and members from across the state work as one, there is 18

21 Membership REPORT OF THE GRAND SECRETARY TO THE MOST EXCELLENT GRAND HIGH PRIEST, OFFICERS, AND MEMBERS OF THE GRAND CHAPTER OF KENTUCKY, ROYAL ARCH MASONS: This is my fourth report to you as your Grand Secretary. I thank Rebecca Warth, our Office Secretary, and the Constituent Secretaries for their work on behalf of the Grand Chapter! Although membership records continue to improve, we still have a way to go! Many of our Secretaries have continued to work very hard to get their records up to date. The summary of the statistical table is as follows (NOTE: One Chapter has not submitted its data.): Members 4399 Suspended -235 Exalted 122 Demitted -67 Admitted 15 Expelled -7 Reinstated 17 Adjust -34 Dead -94 Members 4116 This makes for a net loss of 283 members. Necrology We experienced the loss of three long-time Secretaries during the past year. Companion Verlin Lewis of Western Star Chapter No. 20, Companion T. Boyd Brown of Harlan Chapter No. 165, and Companion David Rhodes of Corbin Chapter No. 167 all Passed the Veils during the past year. We extend our sympathy to their families and friends. Eleven Chapters showed a gain in membership, and we congratulate them. They were: Former Secretaries A number of Secretaries stepped aside this year to allow others to serve. Among the long timers were Companion Tobey J. Adams of Lexington Chapter No. 1, Companion E. J. DeWitt of Clay Chapter No. 28, and Companion James R. Bowles of Madisonville Chapter No Companion Chares Elrod of Jackson Chapter No. 160 also stepped aside. The Office As we look to the future, we plan to update our computer resources, consider other needs and examine our financial resources. Our Office Secretary Rebecca Warth works from her apartment in Nicholasville on assigned tasks while I work in Shelbyville on my tasks. We try to meet in Shelbyville once a week to do some joint projects. I would hope that in the near future ALL of our Secretaries would have computers and capabilities. (As you may know, ALL of the Commandery Recorders must have computer capabilities in order to file their reports with Grand Encampment.) - Somerset Chapter No. 25, Somerset - Frankfort Chapter No. 3, Frankfort - Monticello Chapter No. 152, Monticello - Greensburg Chapter No. 36, Greensburg - Edmonds Chapter No. 83, Lebanon - Scottsville Chapter No. 151, Scottsville - Temple Chapter No. 172, Newport - Shelbyville Chapter No. 2, Shelbyville - Covington Chapter No. 35, Covington - Irvine Chapter No. 42, Irvine - Carroll No. 55, Carrollton The Grand Secretary s Trophy is awarded to the chapter with the highest percent of gain above 10%. Somerset Chapter No. 25 is the recipient of this award with 24%. Finances A basic summary of our finances is as follows: $50, Income for fiscal year July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011 $45, Expenses for fiscal year July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011 $ 5, Excess of Income over Expenses I continue to express my belief that we should have a continuing 41 42

22 resolution to authorize expenditures in July and August prior to adopting a budget in September for the fiscal year of July 1-June 30. Concerns We continue to have too many of our Chapters that are not submitting their various reports by the deadlines. This delays processing in the office and causes extra work. Again this year, I declined to issue fines. This is because the local body usually ends up paying the fine, and the local Chapters don t have the money to do this. However, the Office still needs to have the information on time! The problem of producing an annual Proceedings is making great improvement thanks to our Office Secretary Rebecca Warth! We have produced and have for distribution at this Annual Convocation the Proceedings for both 2008 and It is our hope to get caught up by next year. We have too many things that get sent to the Office when it would be better if they were sent to the person responsible. I will continue to work to see if more things can be handled in another way. For example, Nominations for the various Awards should have the same deadline date and be sent to the appropriate Committee Chairman. Second, By-Laws could be sent to the appropriate Chairman and the Committee might meet quarterly to review and approve them. At that point, the approved item(s) would be sent to the Office for filing and return to the local Chapter. Finally I continue to be impressed by the expertise and dedication of so many Chapter Secretaries. Many are computer literate and do an outstanding job at the local level. Several have contributed both time and advice to help the office become more computer friendly with our reports. To each of you who serve so faithfully, I say a sincere THANK YOU! Fraternally, William G. Hinton, PGHP Grand Secretary 43 DISTRIBUTION OF GRAND SECRETARY S REPORT It was moved by the Grand Secretary that his report be received and distributed to appropriate committees. The motion was adopted.
