1 Evergreen Presbyterian Church (USA) The Grapevine OCT-DEC, 2017 New newsletter Format! Beginning this month we are transitioning to a quarterly newsletter. Moving forward we will publish the newsletter in January 2018, April 2018, July 2018, October This means there will be an increase of information communicated via and in the announcements on Sunday morning. This will also free the staff to focus on other ministry needs while still keeping you informed about the ministry of Evergreen. We hope this format will work for you and that you will find nothing missing from the original format. If you have concerns please feel free to communicate those so we can close any unintended gaps. Children, Youth & Family news! Since we are transitioning to a quarterly newsletter we will focus on sharing information about Children, Youth, and Family events via the monthly e-blast we have been using for a number of months. The monthly e-blast is where you will find all the latest information and details about upcoming events. If you are not currently subscribed to the e-blast please do so by following this link:

6 Dear Evergreen Family, Thank you so much for all that you have one for me. The Helen Bennett scholarship is a big help, especially as textbooks get more expensive, and your thoughts and prayers have been supporting me for as long as I can remember. I still have a couple more years of school, but so far all is going well. I think of home and Evergreen often, and thank you once again for your support. Love, Joseph Hoekenga Dear Evergreen Presbyterian Church, Thank you so much for allowing the participants of the Distinguished Young Women program to use your facility, for the past 25 years, to practice. Your services are greatly appreciated, and a lot of memories have been made at Evergreen. Sincerely, Participant #7 Joneisha Carmichael Dear Pastor Johnson, Thank you so much for allowing us to practice at Evergreen! We are all so grateful and thought the church was beautiful! Participant #10 Raeleigh Swam

9 MAMA TINA S IN SEPTEMBER 2017 MISS MARY moved into the little yellow house next door to Mama Tina s. Each month, she has waited outside to welcome us as we arrive. However this month, early in the week, Miss Mary waited until she saw we were about ready to serve to ask if I could help her. Sure! What may I do to help you with your meal? She was quick to let me know that she would not need help with that but did need a car to use as she went to get an Alabama Drivers License. Those of you who know me, know I LOVE MY BLUE CHARGER. The thought of having another soul take their driver s test in my beloved vehicle, took my breath away. No one has used my car for that purpose since Evergreener Kyle Harwell. But then I remembered how our ministry in the neighborhood has always called upon us to move outside our comfort zones in response to helping others reach their goals. So, on Friday, off we went (after practicing behind the Wiregrass Church) arriving among the earliest hope-filled license seeking people. Miss Mary was excited and nervous as she got her number to wait. Wait we did and then off to see the Road Tester. I knew something was up when Miss Mary was greeted by name, and we were asked to take a seat. It seemed that most everyone there knew her, spoke to her, and then buried themselves in the work at their desk. You guessed it Mary had just gotten her permit the week before and so was encouraged to go back and do a little more practicing! She was disappointed but smiled and assured them she would be back. On the way home, Mary said I know they have rules, and I am ready to keep practicing, cause I have to have this license so I can go somewhere to work that is further than I can walk. All those jobs are taken. I have never had to consider that my potential job or future income would be reliant on being able to drive to an interview. Imagine your life s hopes being held within one neighborhood boundary. We have fed meals to our neighbors, and we have been called upon to live out Our Golden Rule. But, what I learned this September, is that we are also mandated to help others break down barriers- whatever they are- or at least drive a small wedge in a limiting situation. God s love to you! Meals served Servers - 27 Dee (Koza) Preparers - 26 FEED MY SHEEP NEEDS We like to make sure we are well stocked with nutritious non-perishables like, canned fruits, vegetables, soups, dried beans, rice, cereal, peanut butter, etc BASIC FOOD BAG 1 Can Chili 2 Cans Green Beans or Peas 2 Cans Corn 1 Can Tomatoes 1 Large or 2 Small Cans soup 2 Cans Fruit 1 Breakfast (Grits or Cereal) 2 Boxes Mac & Cheese 1 Dried Peas or Beans 1 Bag Rice 1 lb Pkg.
