1 For everything there is a season (Ecclesiastes 3:1) T.S. Elliot writes To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from. July will bring a completion to my interim ministry here at First Presbyterian as I have accepted a position in Hastings, MN. Something new is coming! The Pastor Nominating Committee continues their work of discerning a candidate to present to the congregation. The phrase Alpha and Omega God is a good reminder that our God is the God of first and last things, of beginnings and of endings. Recently we celebrated Pentecost, when the promised Holy Spirit was recognized in the midst of a gathered people. I believe God is to be recognized in our midst, and there is a common, shared understanding that God is not some far away God, but rather an up close companion to us. Our God accompanies us, and will continue to accompany each of us in the days to come. In this new season, may that recognition continue. Look and listen for the ways that God is cultivating fruits of the spirit within each of us and in this place. Genesis assures us that something new will happen, that at every point of change God is an active part of creating. As people of a changed and changing church, we know God is already at work in the new beginnings at First Presbyterian. In the rest of this year and into the years to come, new things will begin to take place, people will notice the Spirit s movement in new ways. God has been here, God will be here, God is here. Summer is just officially starting and soon enough we will be asking that question of each other So, how was your summer? Time does fly! Each week this summer will bring a chance to hear a variety of guest preachers leading worship. Thanks in advance to those who have signed up to serve as liturgist. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that over 11,000 injuries were treated in U.S. emergency departments in Here are a few recommendations from the CDC to help protect you and your loved ones from firework injuries: Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks. Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Avoid buying fireworks packaged in brown paper, which often means they were made for professional displays and could be dangerous for consumers. Watch fireworks displays from a safe distance. Call 911 immediately if someone is injured from fireworks. The CPSC also recommends keeping a bucket of water near by in case of a malfunction or fire.
