1 From the Pastors Desk One of the great joys of Sunday morning at First Presbyterian is the presence of children in worship. During service, one of the most delightful times is having the blanket filled with young people for the children s sermon. The Spirit is present in the spontaneity and honest observations of our youth! It is important that we all take an interest in the youth of our church. This is true whether we are parents or not, whether our children have grown and left (or not). When a child is baptized, as we will on November 5 th, we ALL promise to foster his or her Christian development. It is our privilege and calling as church adults to be involved with and concerned about the spiritual development of our church kids. Many thanks go to the CE committee for their work in teaching the good news to another generation. We all grow and change through our lifetimes, but sometimes it is easier to see the dramatic changes in a child s life. When our young people grow up in church and learn about God s love from an early age, they have a foundation for a lifetime. The children and youth of this church are great. They are a wonderful reminder of the future to come. We are thinking about the future as our Stewardship season is underway. As people of faith we can trust in Christ we have enough. Session is preparing a budget for 2018, a letter will be sent out asking each of us to consider making a commitment of time, talent, and treasure to the church for the coming year. As Christians we are invited to be cheerful in our giving, we may find that glad and generous hearts have a momentum all their own because we see resources not as something to be stockpiled but sown. We are not tearful but cheerful givers because of all that God has first given us and because through our giving God allows us to be partners in mission and ministry in the world. As we come to Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for. We are each blessed with an abundance from God. There is a richness in relationships, and blessings in the gifts we each have. Let us all give thanks for these. Grace and Peace, Dan For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Luke 12:34

So he went out onto the ice and drilled a fish hole and was about to dip his line when a voice spoke from the ether announcing "There are no fish in that hole". Amazed the Preacher said "Oh Lord. After 35 years you have finally spoken to me. How may I better serve thee?" And the voice again spoke in a thunderous voice "There are no fish in that hole". He then dropped to his knees and said "Lord, Lord. What must I do to prove that I am worthy of your mighty and powerful wisdom?" And again the voice spoke "There are no fish in that hole. You are on the ice rink." Standing by the fire, John 18:25
4 Paragraphs from the Parish Nurse While we may like to think a medical emergency will never occur at our church, we know it can occur anywhere at anytime. According to the American Heart Association more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year, and only 12 % of those victims survive. Cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. It occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating effectively. To survive, the victim needs CPR and treatment with an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED. An AED analyzes the heart's rhythm and delivers an electrical shock if necessary, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. AEDs have audio and visual instructions for easy use. According to the American Red Cross, each minute defibrillation is delayed the chance of survival is reduced by approximately 10%. Therefore, if a cardiac arrest were to occur, time is of the essence. According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, when bystanders immediately initiate CPR and use an AED before emergency medical professionals arrive, survival rates increase from an average of 10% to 50%. AEDs are found in many public places including schools, gyms, airports, shopping malls, and churches. It has been approved by the Session to obtain an AED for our church. It is recommended to have multiple people certified in CPR and the use of the AED, so that if an emergency were to occur when people are at church it is most likely someone would be available that has had training. I would like to create a list of members who are certified in CPR. If you are certified, or are interested in becoming certified, please contact me. Thank you, Amanda Frodermann, RN John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The choir meets each Wednesday at 7:00 pm for practice. The prayer shawl ministry group will be meeting every Tuesday at 10 am until further notice. There will be lots of laughter and giggling during this time. They can be crocheted, knitted or tied. Please join us! Communion Sunday, November 26 th Gaius; 3 John 1
