2 ONE ANOTHERING... Making the Church Hum I made a discovery on the way to writing my first book, God s People in Transition, namely, there is never a time when we re not in some kind of transition. All of life from beginning to end is transitory. That is the fluid nature of existence. But in the church we have an anchor that holds and grips the solid rock. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). Permanence is for deity not humanity. Meanwhile life is lived in the meantime. Jesus used the phrase a little while. In a little while, you will see me no more, And in a little while you will see me again (John 16:16). So little whiles have a way of lasting a long while, because we re still waiting. Sometimes the meantime can get pretty mean. Those up in years like unto me, know what that means. God provided the antidote for our transitoriness, found in community. A faith community like this one, for the living of these days. How blessed Manlius is to have you here for over 2 centuries! And blessed are those who take advantage of it. My goal for all of my churches has been to do whatever it takes to keep them humming; to build off of what went on before; to keep the momentum and progress of this church headed in the right direction as my predecessors have so aptly pointed it. Every decision will be based on what I think is best for the church. My vision is Jesus vision found in Luke 4: My mission statement is to lead people to Christ and grow people in Christ. (Does that leave anybody out?) My motto is: We reserve the right to accept everybody. Two things I enjoy doing are to make people think and help them to laugh. So I take myself lightly but my calling seriously. Libby and I feel blessed indeed to have a place among you in this special place. From Br er Dan 2 nd Mile Smile: to Dick Barber & Barb Foringer for their visitation ministry. And Millar Brace for all the time he puts in our financial matters. At Ease in Zion: Iroquois Spring Association Meeting RESERVE THE DATE!!!!! THE ASSOCIATION'S UPCOMING SPRING MEETING WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY, MAY 15 AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF CENTRAL SQUARE (701 N.
