1 Additional Connect Activities Round 2 New Testament Lesson 1 Art Center Items Needed: TE 1-21 Crayons Before class, copy TE 1-21 so each child has one. Distribute TE 1-21 and crayons to the children. Allow them to draw pictures of different ways they are helpful at home. CONNECTION POINT: Today we will hear a Webster family story about how they were helpful to their neighbors, the Martins. We can be helpful at home and everywhere we are. Lesson 2 Drama Center Items Needed: Plastic fruits or vegetables Watering can Plastic shovels or rakes Masking tape Pool noodle
2 Before class, use the masking tape to tape off a square that will be the garden. Allow the children to pretend to plant the food using the tools provided. The pool noodle can be used as a garden hose. CONNECTION POINT: We pretended this was a garden and we helped the Martins take care of it just like Annie, Rosie, and Jamie did in last week s lesson. The Bible tells us to help others burdens. Today we will hear another story of how the Webster family were doers of God s Word, and not just hearers. Lesson 3 Puzzle Center Items Needed: Puzzles depicting veggies, farms, and gardening Allow the children to work to put the puzzles together. Have the children encourage and cheer each other on when the pieces are placed in the correct spot. CONNECTION POINT: In our lesson today, the Webster family will learn how to cheer each other on to do what is right. Lesson 4 Drama Center Items Needed: Plastic mixing bowls Spatulas or wooden spoons
3 Aprons Oven mitts Large box Cookie sheets Before class, cut a door in the box. This will be the oven. You may wish to embellish with some knobs and burners on the top. Encourage children to mix and bake cookies in the oven. CONNECTION POINT: In our story today, someone is going to get a special plate of cookies. I can t wait to see who it is. Book Center Items Needed: Age-appropriate books about helping others, encouragement, people with special needs (especially those with wheelchairs), Picture or Easy Reader Bibles Allow the children to quietly relax and look at the books in this center. The librarian at your local library should be able to suggest some good books on these topics. CONNECTION POINT: These books help us learn more about helping others and encouraging each other to be helpful. I am reminded as I read these books that The Bible Teaches Me to Be Helpful.
4 Application Verse Center Items Needed: TE 1-13 TE 1-14 Have the children match the words from TE 1-14 to the application verse poster (TE 1-13). CONNECTION POINT: This verse from God s Word tells us we are to do what the Bible says and not just listen to the words. What are some ways we can be doers of God s Word? Old Testament Lesson 1 Kindergarten Readiness Center Items Needed: Cotton balls Index cards Number the index cards Make several sets. Allow the children to count the number of cotton balls to match the number on the index cards. CONNECTION POINT: This month, we are going to learn about a shepherd boy named David and how God took care of him. I can be reminded that just as God took care of David, God Takes Care of Me. Lesson 2 Small Motor Skills Center
5 Items Needed: Paper plates (one plate/child) Beans or rice Stapler Markers Before class, fold the paper plates in half, and write God Takes Care of Me on it so each child will have one. Staple around the edges, leaving a small section for the child to add the beans. Make the beans available to the children and show them how to put them inside the paper plate. As they finish, staple the edge to close the shaker. CONNECTION POINT: Today we are going to learn God was with David and took care of him as David played music for King Saul. God is always with us too. We can use our shaker to praise God for taking care of us. Lesson 3 Art Center Items Needed: TE 2-34 Crayons Before class, copy TE 2-34 so each child has one. As the children arrive for class, direct them to the table. Distribute TE 2-34 and crayons. Allow the children to draw a picture of different ways God takes care of them.
6 CONNECTION POINT: We are learning God takes care of us. We can use these pictures to remind us of different ways God takes care of us. I am glad God Takes Care of Me. Lesson 4 Large Motor Skills Items Needed: Five Hula-Hoops Spread the Hula-Hoops so they are close enough the children can hop from one to another while saying the Heartprint: God Takes Care of Me. CONNECTION POINT: We have been learning the many ways God took care of David. The Bible tells us God will take care of us too. We can say our Heartprint to remind ourselves how much God cares for us. Lesson 5 Small Motor Skills Items Needed: Various colored beads Yarn or twine Scissors Before class, cut yarn or twine in 12-inch sections so each child will have one. Add tape to one end. Distribute a piece of yarn to the children, and make the beads available to the children. Let them add different colored beads to the yarn. Tie the
7 ends together. Encourage the children to trade their necklaces with another child in the class. CONNECTION POINT: Today we are going to learn how God took care of David by giving him a special friend. We have special friends in our class. God takes care of us by giving us these friends. I am glad God Takes Care of Me. Book Center Items Needed: Age-appropriate books about David, families, wants and needs, caring for others Picture or easy-reader Bibles Provide throw pillows or beanbag chairs for the children to lounge on as they look at the books. CONNECTION POINT: This month we are going to learn about different ways God took care of David. We can be reminded of the different ways God takes of us. Application Verse Center Items Needed: TE 2-17 TE 2-18

God was a Shepherd to David and took care of him throughout David s life. The Bible tells us God is our Shepherd, and He will take care of us too. God Takes Care of Me. Special Topic Lesson 1 Play-Doh Center Items Needed: Play-Doh Alphabet cookie cutters Index cards Marker Before class, write the word BIBLE on the index cards. Let the children use the alphabet cookie cutters to spell the word Bible. CONNECTION POINT: Today we are going to learn about the Bible. It is God s Word and everything in it is true. Lesson 2 Writing Center
9 Items Needed: TE 3-19 Crayons Before class, copy TE 3-19 so each child will have one. Distribute TE 3-19 and crayons to the children. Let them write on the coloring frames. CONNECTION POINT: In our lesson today, we are going to learn about one of the people God chose to write His special book, the Bible. His name was Paul. God told Paul what He wanted to say to the people of Galatia, and Paul wrote God s words in a letter to them. These letters are part of the Bible. The Bible Is God s Word. Lesson 3 Art Center Items Needed: TE 3-19 Crayons Before class, copy TE 3-19 so each child will have one. Distribute TE 3-19 and crayons to the children. Allow them to draw something they have learned from God s Word. CONNECTION POINT: We are learning many different things all the time. We are learning different colors and letters. We are learning to count. We learn all kinds of things. In our lesson today, we are going to learn from God s Word,
10 the Bible, some important things from God. The Bible Is God s Word and it teaches us. What is something you have learned from the Bible? Lesson 4 Bible Center Items Needed: Various Bibles, including children s Bibles Allow the children to look through the different Bibles. Talk about how they look different. CONNECTION POINT: Look at these Bibles. They look different. But they are all God s Word. God gave us the Bible so we could learn from it. It is His words to us. Do you know some Bibles are in different languages? People in different countries have Bibles in their language so they can read God s Word. Today we will learn God s Word is for everyone. Book Center Items Needed: Variety of Bibles Display the different Bibles so all the children can see them. Explain that even though the Bibles may look different, they are all God s Word, the Bible. CONNECTION POINT: We have been learning about a very special book the Bible. It is filled with true stories about God s people and God s Son, Jesus. The Bible Is God s Word.
